    Yes. Grain hopper semis still numerous on the highway each morning during my commute to Cedar Rapids, IA.

    When I was a kid, regular candy bars were a nickel and premium bars were a dime. And, they were bigger than they are now. That's how I measure loss of purchasing power.

      @@bruceprentice6441 Must have. My bachelor uncle horse farmer would always bring a Maple Bun bar (the one in the yellow wrapper) home from town, one for him and one for me. They were a dime and close to 4 inches in diameter. Now, they are about 2 inches.

      There are many reasons for a weakening dollar and not all are discussed. Not all will make Americans happy. If Americans want higher salaries they need more dollars. If we want to export you need cheaper input costs. These to ideas don’t work well with each other. The other alternative is to weaken the dollar. People get more dollars and the goods get comparatively cheaper, but this leads to other problems. Politics and governance isn’t about “fixing problems”. Politicians lie about fixing problems to get votes to people who don’t understand the real issues. Politicians and government get paid to “manage” dilemma (tough choices with no satisfactory outcomes).

      @@chillxxx241 Well reasoned! I have always maintained that the first prerogative of any government is to avoid widespread panic, from whatever direction. Everything else takes a back seat. IMHO paper based, debt backed money is the only way to fund an empire without as much plundering as the old days. That means built in inflation forever, until you hit the wall.

      @@don66hotrod94 empty pop cans in Michigan are worth a dime. When I was a kid we would ride our bikes to the store and pick up every can we found in the ditch. By the time we got to the store we could usually each get a pop and a candy bar. Nowdays a kid would have to pedal a lot of miles to afford the same with 10¢ cans.

    Good morning! Are farmers selling corn in your area given the recent rise in prices?? Has basis deteriorated?

      Local ethanol plant raised basis a good amount last week. Now backing it off a bit, must have bought a lot.
      Heard a rumor that they are trying to load up because Christmas and new year are on Wednesday so they figure there won’t be a lot coming in those 2 weeks. Might be a good time to keep a close eye on basis

    The value of USD is relative, and not absolute. Consider that in the early 1920’s only 36% of homes had electricity, corn yields were around 26bu/ac compared to 180bu/today, with some areas producing up to 250bu/ac. The apparent loss in the value of the USD reflects the cost of growth and the cost of technological advancement. The USD is still the most desirable currency in the world. Even Bitcoin is measured in USD, not the other way around.

    IGC said about 2 weeks ago grain supply around the world is at 10 year lows. Seems odd when the frauds at the usda says there's RECORD crops everywhere. Why is corn in Brazil over $6 & over $7 in China. Russia wheat crop is one of the worst in decades but that doesn't matter because SA is gonna have another HUGE, RECORD crop and next year the US is gonna have a HUGE, RECORD crop 😂

    For the family farmer with about 40 acres, can he make money in 2025 on corn and soybeans at the current market price, +/- 20% price swing. This is the guidance that the USDA needs to provide. Yes, no , don't know ?

    • @GrainMarketsandOtherStuff
      @GrainMarketsandOtherStuff  2 дні тому +1

      USDA can't run your budgets for you.

    • @justthings6405
      @justthings6405 2 дні тому +2

      @@GrainMarketsandOtherStuff Maybe that can't run my budget, but on the flipside, their numbers directly effect my budget. If I have true production numbers instead of USDA exagerrated numbers which keeps a cap on the market for 6 months until they update again, my budget would change drastically if more money was given to me at the elevator, which would in turn be invested back into local businesses. The everyday traders, the elevators, the bankers, and etc, base everything they do on the word of the almightly, all knowing "USDA".
