that is true. And in parallel universe Lars is the Lead singer and rithm guitarist, James is on Bass, Cliff is the Lead guitarist and Dave is on drums.
Stefán Atli Jakobsson I can totally see Cliff on Lead guitar for some reason. Also, James did play bass at one stage in Metallica. He's played every instrument in Metallica actually. Bass, Lead guitar, Rhythm guitar, Drums, bass and vocals.
Cliff and Dave's stage presence here is towering, anyone would think it was them who created the band not Lars and James, my god what a line up..shame it never lasted...we can only imagine what if.
***** Yeah pretty much, just look at rust in peace, almost every song on there was completely written by him, imo its beats every metallica album, we can only wonder how that music would of influenced metallica with this lineup.
Harry Callahan I don't know. Replacing Dave with Kirk still seems like a solid move. We got some unforgettable solos on RTL, MOP, and Justice, and we also got 3+ decades of Megadeth. No complaints here.
***** Looks like you are clearly a child. Im very confident i know much more about both bands then you do, since you are obviously a stupid unreasonable fanboy. If you really want to talk about megadeths lyrics coming from metallica you are even stupider than i thought. First ill say sweating bullets is from the perspective of a lunatic who is talking to himself... is that not obvious enough? Now lets talk about unforgiven 1, 2, and 3. number 1 is a good song but the next 2 are possibly the most retarded things ive seen in music. Let me paint you a clear picture overall. Good metallica albums. Ill be very generous because some of these a wide amount of serious heavy metal fans consider (very) bad albums. KILL 'EM ALL, RIDE THE LIGHTNING, MASTER OF PUPPETS, ...AND JUSTICE FOR ALL, The Black album, DEATH MAGNETIC. thats 6 albums which 1 has a major impact by dave mustaine and 2 have a minor imact by him. Now for megadeths good albums which i will be less generous with. Killing Is My Business... and Business Is Good!, Peace Sells... but Who's Buying?, So Far, So Good... So What!, Rust in Peace, Countdown to Extinction, Youthanasia,Cryptic Writings, The System Has Failed, United Abominations, Endgame, Thirteen. Well thats 11 albums which quite a few are masterpieces. You are immature and unreasonable so you probably didnt read this far, but as you can see the reason why almost all serious metallica fans turn to megadeth when they discover them. The hard truth is, metallicas last good album ever was justice, they will never make good thrash music ever again in their career deal with it, or live in lies and denial.
I'd go for all of these options :D Now that I think of it... Led Zeppelin... Beatles... Elvis... Deep Purple with Blackmore and Lord... HOLY FUCK, INVENT THAT MACHINE ALREADY :D !
SweatingBullets72 "I will never forget the sweet times when I sat on my husband's shoulders to show tits to Slayer" will become true, only with Metallica :D
+Rick Morks Though I'm much older than you I've always felt the same way. I grew up on Metallica through the mid to late 90's and was fortunate enough to get to see them play live when they were in their prime still but it's still nothing to compared to when they were in their early to mid 20s during the 80s.
+Rick Morks Same package here bro. Even though I didn't see them back in the day (same with a lot of bands ofcourse) i count myself fortunate enought to be part of the metal community. Look around you in your daily life en see how many people will never know these names of here the masterpieces they created. I'm just happy i'm not drooling about and following the masses.
I remember this show, I was to young to get inside to watch, but I was def. outside with my punk friends enjoying the parking lot action. And believe me there was enough of it to go around....
Bob Niht Ummm someone who is only 13 years old at the time and the club is 21 years and up to get inside.... So who is the fucking idiot now internet tuff guy
6:15 The sheer awesomeness of James and Dave shredding next to each other caused the camera to overload and warp the tape. Even inanimate objects can't handle the awesome.
must see video was a young 11\12 yr old first time seeing this and became a super fan till a few yrs. later when load then reload came out black album was OK ?but still a super fan of the pre 90s Metallica and James live rocks such a killer voice and the sounds he made pure HEAVY METAL no man could duplicate it's no wonder he bagged out his voice ! thank you James even if we have to watch your early yrs belting out vocals on a mission to kill em all glam hair bands and become rock gods cheers to dave for starting out with Metallica and ending with the other super group megadeath and to cliff love you man your a good sent and god took you to early rip Mr Clifford Lee Burton oh yeah dont tell god but I'm going to kick him in the balls for taking you away !
Dylan Ross I didn't say that Justice is a bad album. However Metallica got progressively more uninteresting to me following Cliff's death. They peaked with Master Of Puppets.
I caught them in a tiny place called "The State Palace Theatre" in New Orleans on the Rust in Peace tour. That place could not have held more than 300 people, and I was 10 feet away from Dave the whole show. I don't care what anybody says, when Dave wanted to shred, he was a freakin animal! He was really feelin' it that night, and he tore that place apart! The whole crowd was screaming along for the whole show, what a great night. Dave Rocks!!
Cliff was before his time...He's right up there with Black Sabbath's Geezer Butler. It was an honor seeing Metallic with Cliff! It was a great time in music.
Sergio Medelin actually Gary Dotson was right. Even though James is technically the front man, Dave would always do the banter between songs and it took away from James being the front man. I mean Dave was obviously a front man personality too seeing as how megadeth is huge and people pretty much go to see him since they've had a million line up changes. But with that many strong personalities it is hard to contain.theres always 1-2 that are the REAL leaders. In this case it was 3 and mustaine was out

I wish Cliff was alive and all, but I don't wish Dave was still there just because he made so many amazing Megadeth songs. If he was still there though, Metallica could be the absolute best band ever though.
Cliff is missed, for sure. But people seem to forget, that Lars was the composition-engine for Metallica in the 80's. I had a chat with Flemming Rasmussen once, and according to him, Lars had the main ideas for all the classics, and he came up with most of the choruses and melodies. Cliff was talented, and he co-wrote more and more by every album, but in the end, it was Lars who created the magic, while James & Cliff (and Dave on the first album) contributed as well.
+Fragile Moose I do thank God for both Metallica and Megadeth. Without Dave's exit, there would be no Megadeth. Unfortunate the method and cause, but time, experience, and history mends wounds. Without Megadeth, history may have never heard of Marty Friedman, David Ellefson, and Nick Menza. Certain bands bring out the best in certain individuals ..
"Anesthesia/Pulling Teeth".... what a bassit beast Cliff was... When metallica were really metallica, cliff and dave clearly, the most strongest and the soul of the band... (it's funny how lars don't maintain the tempo and Cliff take care of it). rip Cliff Burton. Now with Darrell for sure. Great vid man. Thanxs 4 uploading it.
I've listened to this many times and this is the first time i noticed he put that bit from "set the controls for the heart of the sun" in there. CB = RAD.
What a shit comment. Metallica makes great music without Dave, I wish Cliff was still alive though. And better than The Beatles? They are already 10x better than the fucking Beatles

In a parallel universe, these four are still killing it on stage.
that is true. And in parallel universe Lars is the Lead singer and rithm guitarist, James is on Bass, Cliff is the Lead guitarist and Dave is on drums.

Yes he probably could have killed it on a lead guitar.
And Black Album is a thrash album
Interviewer: When did the band start?Hetfield: Well, since we started. GG
Even in a stoned drunk state Hetfield is sharp as tacks, made me smile also.
I have never seen Dave as happy before, as he was there in this interview.
Cliff's headbanging looks like it was filmed in reverse :o)
Could you boost the bass for Anesthesia? Nah I'm kidding lol great videos.

how long has the band been together..."since we started"
hahaha!!!

Cliff Burton bass solo invented dubstep.
don't try to turn this music into that garbage
+Ungureanu Florin Cristian/Gaming4871 Official lol
Fucking amazing bass player.
R.I.P. Cliff. Gone, but never forgotten!
For sure bro
Q: 'How long has Metallica been a band?'
A: 'since we started'
haha gets me every time :p
6:15 The sheer awesomeness of James and Dave shredding next to each other caused the camera to overload and warp the tape. Even inanimate objects can't handle the awesome.
Dave is so aggressive and thrashy .. god damn .. riff master
Cliff: RUSH, BLACK SABBATH. The Classic bass player.
+felipemaiden13 not so classic...
+otrebla567 for a guy his age and his music style, classic.
Just Iron Maiden and Led Zeppelin missing.
he also said zz top, cliffs taste is perfection
+Mettullum Cliff was also into Country music and Classical music.
Cliff Burton was much ahead of his time. The audience did not understand what he was doing. He was revolutionizing music and inaugurating a new era.
Cliff's solo is so ominous, but so upbeat, but so bluesy, but so jazzy, so rocking, but beyond Metal. \m/
This video is so cool. I've never seen anything like it
Yea this is cool it's off the Cliff'em all dvd well it was vhs when I saw it back in the day but it's a great dvd you shoud check out
watched it 200+ times. necer gets old

People kept lightly trying to touch his bass. I never once saw Cliff do anything like a flinch or retaliation.
dave mustaine is a real metal ..........
Стефан Кръстев Is great comment from russia
Metallica lost the heart of the band when they lost Cliff.
thats right. ending of "ride the lightning "
erik krizka master of puppet*
Cliff died shortly after the release of Master Of Puppets not Ride The Lightning.
Darrylizer1 Oh come on And Justice for All was a good album... It was their mourning album for cliff. Jason got screwed but it was respect for Cliff.
Dylan Ross I didn't say that Justice is a bad album. However Metallica got progressively more uninteresting to me following Cliff's death. They peaked with Master Of Puppets.
cliff was so good.
anyone miss the old hetfield
me
everyone I think. but past didn't back anyway... and modern hat still great man and good musician, years is just numbers)
i miss the old Metallica...
Jared Vise i miss cliff and james voice
same
Man... Dave introducing Cliff to the crowd was epic!! LOL
Cliff is arguably the greatest bass guitar player....one wonders what Metallic would be today if he was still writing....
Dave still looks the same 31 years later. That's the awesome thing. While James and Lars have aged. RIP Cliff...
That's bad but noydays Dave started getting older.
Yeah but James has better vocals IMO
Dave's age has hit him hard the past 2-3 years
Cliff doesn't age like we age
Jason Brown I hate James's new vocals, they're not angry enough.
This is too fucking epic not to watch it couple of times!
wow!! thanks for posting this. Almost forgot about good ole Dave Mustaine..
I caught them in a tiny place called "The State Palace Theatre" in New Orleans on the Rust in Peace tour. This was Dave's band you can clearly tell he's the leader.
"The major rager on the 4 string motherfuckers" Lol
+Garrett Seghers best introduction ever
The Beatles of thrash metal
Fuck yes.
james approved this (y)
+CoolHero79 The Metallica of the Beatles
thats an amazing way to put it!
Legend has it, when you go through a black hole, you enter another universe, and in that universe, these four are still jamming together.
Cliffs headbanging is epic!!!
0:04 Cliff is like "Dude, we're thrash Metal"
He's pissed about being labeled "LA band", in fact he convinced Metallica to move to San Francisco.
Cobain 92 thrash is a subgenre of heavy metal which is a subgenre of rock.
Ein Walroß Heavy metal isn't a subgenre of rock
Cobain 92 ZZ Top lol
Thrash Metal wasn´t a name back in the day.
Interviewer : Ok, how long has a band been together, as ''Metallica' ?
James : Since we started.
Go figure.... :D
kirk borrowed his first wah peddal from cliff.
isaacwest yeah i think exactly that. Cliff is the reason why Kirk uses wha pedal xD.
solo is so fucking flawless sounds even better then the album
hippa2dahoppa2 whats the name of the song that cliff play?
anesthesia
Cliff was before his time...He's right up there with Black Sabbath's Geezer Butler. It was an honor seeing Metallic with Cliff! It was a great time in music.
Dave Mustaine = A real life Metal god \m/
Never saw this before thanks so much for posting unbelievable
"Dave Mustaine, Lead Guitar" "Cliff Burton, Bass Guitar" I really wish that those quotes still today on Metallica... but drugs & alcohol said NO!
...And a fucking killet Bus!
Cliff on his way in and Dave on his way out. Some rare footage indeed. Thanks!
At :33 her follow-up question to Dave should be "how much longer will this Metallica be together?"
saw them many times when they came to England, when I was younger ...
.. 1st time in 1984,
last time in 1992.
always enjoyed them live.
Mustaine was the real frontman of Metallica and quite the dictator, and Hetfield had insecurity and control issues. Their seperation was inevitable.
Gary Dotson Mustaine Wasn't The Front Man For Metallica James Was And Still Is Til This Day Cliff Was Back Up Vocals Learn Yo You Fucking Poser
Sergio Medelin actually Gary Dotson was right. Even though James is technically the front man, Dave would always do the banter between songs and it took away from James being the front man. Gerardo Neri 36 years crying in the 2nd place hahaha. megaliebers.
Before calling someone a poser you should learn to type without capitalizing every word like a fucking moron.
thrasher the emos paranoid fanboys of megadeth. haha is funny how crying 36 years after.
Hell yeah this is call music getting into your bass and jamming with your buddy. nicely done thank you Mr. Burton
True Metallica
drums and bongs... sweet
I cried when Kirk Told the story when James was drunk and he was asking where cliff was. I lost it. I was so lucky to see them in 85 and 86😔
The way I read it it was Kirk the one that was drunk and screaming where was Cliff the night he died.
Metallica Playlist same and kirk was saying it wouldnt have happened if he hadnt lost a bet to have the back bunk instead of sleeping up front! And james searching the road for black ice and stuff. Was a really really sad story
thanks for the upload never had a chance to see them playing...
metallica su inicio que gran sonido..
Cliff Burton was a genuine badass.
He wasn't trying to be cool, he just was naturally cool in a humble way.
Little did Dave know...
GrayWoIf HAHA! XD
Cliff gives me chills every time i watch his vids... by god, can't even imagine the mark he put in the industry if he was with us today, he was a god back then.. icon wouldn't cut it.. . R.I.P Cliff
Anyone miss Cliff Burton, old Hetfield and old Lars ?
and Dave in Metallica
nandocor7 Everybody miss them. But we are in new years, new time, new era. They needed to change.
nandocor7 no not at all. Wtf you think, we're idiots?
Thanks for this post.
I wish I was there.
Mingy Comumbus Everyone here envy's you.
Damn, Cliff was playing Tool before Tool!
hahahahahahaha
damn right
Never realized Cliff tapped those harmonics around the 4:25 min mark, dope, man he was so ahead of James, Dave and Kirk as a overall musician.
This band with this line up must be epic....I bet this metallica was make forget even the beatles...this Metallica must be the best band in the history lml
That is just too perfect i wish they would have made at least one album together
saw them in may 86. mind blowing
I couldn't even imagine what it was like for some of those people in the front row watching Cliff do his solo... they must have had their minds blown away
I wish Cliff was alive and all, but I don't wish Dave was still there just because he made so many amazing Megadeth songs. If he was still there though, Metallica could be the absolute best band ever though.
That kicked major ass. So raw...radical. This is why Metallica shot straight to the top for me back in the day.
Cliff is missed, for sure.
But people seem to forget, that Lars was the composition-engine for Metallica in the 80's. Yup and now instead Megadeth is the best Metal Band ever. And they still write metal, unlike Metallica.
+Wesley Ford Yes, and Black Sabbath, Metallica and Iron maiden don't even exist.
+slenderbc07 No. Iron Maiden are still awsome
+Wesley Ford risk
Probably best quality version ive seen of this
The best time of METALLICA...
RIP. Cliff miss you, everytime remember you when saw the tallica boys
Did some guys there mention something about ~MOTORHEAD~ ??!!
+LEMMY K. IS GOD yeah , it was Lars...
+Calvin C RIP Lemi forever live Motorhead
+LEMMY K. IS GOD Lars was the kid in the Orgasatron booklet with puke on himself.
+LEMMY K. IS GOD 0:48 lars xD and my favorite the bass guitar cliff burton said!!! black sabbath!
+Marina Pleasants one of the best albums
"Anesthesia/Pulling Teeth".... what a bassit beast Cliff was...

It's so weird hearing a wah-free Metallica solo hahaha
Soundtallica in Chains More than 50% Metallica solos are wah free. You're just listening to too much modern metallica.
Soundtallica in Chains cliff's solo here is full of it
I've listened to this many times and this is the first time i noticed he put that bit from "set the controls for the heart of the sun" in there. CB = RAD.
+Dylan Long : thanks, I hadn't noticed at first...
Oh my god James voice😂
amazing and beautiful bass solo
had cliff not died and mustaine not fired metallica would have made the greatest music in history. better than tha fuckin beatles
and replace lars with dave Lombardo from slayer
Greg Walsh
Yeah, the best band made by big four members would be Hetfield, Mustaine, Burton and Lombardo
Ο Επιστήμων i would do kerry instead of dave
What a shit comment. Metallica makes great music without Dave, I wish Cliff was still alive though. And better than The Beatles? They are already 10x better than the fucking Beatles
if Mustaine not fired we would not have Megadeth
Watching this, back in the day, was a revelation. I had played base before, but Cliff Burton had inspired me to take it very seriously.
fck. that was real sht. why they cant be like this again?
norq Also probably because one of them is dead and the other was kicked out.
Link2448 i know. Just miss it
Nice great times... The grainy footage makes it even better..
and in the beginning the metal gods created....FUCKIN THRASH GREATNESS
this is unreal what a great flashback to the begining wow really cool to c.
Who saw there reactions when she said they were from LA
As I have heard they didn't liked to be acknowledged from LA at the time because the city was not treating them well.
SigmaTV They didn't understand thrash metal yet. Most of the thrash metal bands moved up to SF like they did and took off
holy shit getting the chills when whiplash starts! damn, what a line-up
Heard a rumor back in the day that Metallica was gonna release a self-titled album in '91, but its to bad they fell off the map before it came out.
How funny. I haven't heard that before. ( I'm being serious I haven't heard that joke before)
ive never seen mustain so active on stage. its awesome.
Dude , this video's audio is tore back 😳 !!
I'm with the draw crowd, Hammett is good probably just as good as Mustaine, but funny how things work, Without Mustaine we would have no Megadeth, so personally I'm glad hints worked out the way they did.. Except Cliff, may he RIP.
Sorry hints= Things, typing one handed, as I messed up my other one. (Hey, no jokes there...lol..)

Respect your comment ( first part ) but personally i think Dave is way better than Kirk.
Watchin dave bang his head with the last solo reminded me how much I miss old school thrash Metal...
İ missed kirk after 20 sec :D even with his wah he suits metallica more then dave. Ma cute kirk😇
Çağrı Koçaslan are you drunk?
Dave Mustaine misses you cliff... We all miss our brother.....
This is not Metallica. This is supergroup. How about Cliff replace by Dave Elleffson? It would Megallica!
Agun Wiriadisasra Or lars be replaced by a good drummer. It would be Metallica at their full potential.
Danny Carey would love to do that.
TheIcanntspel
Dave Grohl instead of Lars!
Oh sorry, I'm still dreaming
+TheIcanntspel No Lars, no Metallica. Imprint this in your mind.
@@agunsux no he wouldn't he suks so does tool
with this bass player this band is gonna go places
Is that Mustaine who introduces Cliff?
+Mr W Mustaine was talking on Metallica shows because James was too shy
i've never seen a guy just out of high school that could play like Mustaine in those days....and I'm older than all of them.
Mustaine*
Can't believe this was actually 31 years ago!!! DAMN.
