I understand why people are angry with this portrayal, but at the same time I think the author was telling a more nuanced way of comparing how easy genocide can happen, whether it be a new party in power or a slow rise from injustice. We should see these injustices against humanity and protected classes as steps towards another atrocity.
Yeah but comparing policies against illegal and mass immigration to literally nazi germany is dishonest and even dangerous because of the trivialization of the Holocaust
I remember when this video was only 9 months old and it had a lot of praise 💀 i wonder who the first person to cause this shift in comments was.
I'm so confused on whether this movie's a cash grab or not now. It seems genuine enough, just a subversion of how her story's told. Like a what-if situation
I’m pretty sure it was twitter that started the shift.
Oh a popular right wing UA-camr called Brett Cooper made the shift
@@druvjuice6906 Of course we can count on the conservatives to ruin everything.
@@druvjuice6906 no i think it's because the movie came out and didn't live up to people's expectations
Do people not get it? What is with the sudden shift in comments on this movie? Jews were deported during the holocaust, so why is everyone taking issue with this movie talking about deportation?
Bc they really didnt need to make a direct comparison to anne frank or the holocaust to get the point across, and they most likely only did bc they knew people would have a big reaction to it. It’s disgraceful to use the holocaust in that way.
The Jews under Nazi Germany were deported from the countries they were already living in to be extinguished in another occupied country. Modern Deportation doesn’t do that. Even America’s ICE doesn’t gas the millions of immigrants in captivity. As Contreras stated, this is a disgusting comparison, because it’s insulting to those who lost their lives for no actual reason from the Holocaust. Maybe the trailer showed Kitty worried for the modern immigrants because she didn’t know about modern immigration laws, but who would even expect a fictional character created in a different time to understand?
@@PeriwinkleFairywinklethe movie was directed by ari folman...
@@PeriwinkleFairywinkle Why? Far right ideologies are on the rise in Europe, deportation and mistreatment of minorities is becoming common, you can certainly make comparisons between 20th Century facism and modern day white nationalism, it's not as bad as it used to be, but it could get worse. The problem is nobody wants to believe they could be the bad guy, but if somone genuinely thinks something like the holocaust could not happen again, then they've learned nothing.
@@PeriwinkleFairywinkle the real holocaust was allied bombings of residential german cities.
For someone who read both books, this animation made me cry
Its sad because this would actually be a decent idea if they didn’t make it about the holocaust. Like the concept of a girl having an imaginary friend that went looking for her is actually kind of cool. Or even some kind of apocalyptic theme. But comparing it to the holocaust is just wrong
pretty sure this is a cinematic retelling of the diary of a very famous holocaust victim whose diary was found and adapted into comics and books, anne frank had written the diary but died during the holocaust and her diary was later found and adapter into stories regarding her diary entries, although it seems to be a modernized version of what happens afterwards

Fun Fact: This Movie is connected to Anne Frank's Diary: the Graphic Adaptation.
I love it when corpos parade around the memory of someone that died during one of the worst moments and human history so they can shit out their own message. I fucking love this sludge, give me more
The Anne Franke Foundation a few years ago declared that Anne Frank's father "co-authored" ie he wrote the whole diary for her so that they could renew the copyright and keep profiting off of selling a diary that the Anne Frank Foundation itself says was written by a man pretending to be his daughter writing about fingering herself.
Love the sarcasm, and live for YOUR message behind it. Because unlike this corporate bullshit your message makes sense 🙂
The camp killed everyone too young to work but it's ok since Anne is somehow taken in, and then she becomes sick but it's ok because she was hospitalized, because the place built to kill its inhabitants of course has a hospital for some reason.

I love Waltz With Bashir
I have not seen this movie as of yet, but I do seem to want to see it. I have read the comments, and watched this trailer, and yet, I do not quite understand the connections being made in this film.
Anne Frank died. Fact. Her story is quite sad, that she fought and struggled so long to survive, only to end up dead in the end anyways. It is a tragedy. She is a hero, in some sense, for holding on for so long. She was brave, while only a child. Most of all, her story is a tragedy. It provides a glimpse into what it had been like during a time where so much was lost. Her story is important for that. I do not think, people "worship" Anne Frank. People look up to her, for sure. Just not, "worship".
My other problem is that in the trailer, Kitty says "Do everything you can, to save one single soul from harm." Which, I get is a connection to people helping Jews during the Holocaust, to save anyone they can. However, that message doesn't quite, work well for me. While that kind of "people help people" message is a good one, and certainly an important part of Anne's story, that doesn't sit as the "main" idea. Anne Frank dies, no one is saved. They didn't save one single soul, they all, died. That isn't what Anne Frank is about. Anne Frank is about finding the strength to keep going, no matter the adversity in the way, to be courageous in times of fear, to hold out until the very last second that you no longer can. THAT is Anne's legacy. To be, BRAVE. It's not about saving anyone, it's about never giving up. It's about always having hope of a better future, it's about dreaming of a better tomorrow. No one is saved, but we can survive. That is her story, which is why this trailer seems odd to me.
I would find the movie better if they changed the narrative. Let's say, the main character is an illegal immigrant, from a country where their life is miserable, so they journey to America to make their lives better. The mc likes to read, in particular, Anne Frank's diary. They are reading it the whole journey trying to get to America. Whilst moving across (most likely Mexico) they are reading this book, as their family is surviving storms, moving across borders, getting through. The mc can relate to Anne, as they both have to hide. Mc enjoys reading the diary, since it feels like Anne is talking to them. So finally, the family makes it to the American Mexican border. Only, to find a great wall in their way. Mc has finished the diary at this point. They feel on edge, knowing this is where the story ends. However, if Anne Frank could survive that long, maybe mc and their family can make it to America. Thus they begin to try and get into America illegally. Only once climbing the wall, they are caught and thrown back across the border. They cannot make it in. All that travel, for naught. They are trapped. Forever to stay in Mexico. I personally find this correlation between narratives more similar, using Anne's story as one that inspires the mc to keep going through their own struggles, only to be met with a bitter end, just as Anne had as well. Using Anne's story as an inspiration spun onto a more current event allows viewers to understand the struggles of illegal immigrants, being able to compare the correlation to a much better known story of Anne Frank. Knowing the story of Anne Frank helps viewers understand what feeling the mc has.
I would find a movie such as that quite entertaining, however, it does not seem the actual movie in question has done a good deep analysis of her story. Their comparisons, are shallow at best. I can understand that your country of origin may seem like a prison, but it's not as horrific as literally being sent to a concentration camp or death camp designed to kill you. The comparisons are just, not very good. In this era, there aren't (thankfully) many countries where if you were to be sent back to would guarantee death. I know that personal experiences could make your situation worse, everyone's story is different, but it is likely that you will not die. An exception I can name off the top of my head in North Korea, you will be killed if you are sent back. Other than that, you likely won't die. So the way the actual movie spins Anne's story and deportation doesn't really work. I think my version would be much nicer.
I would be interested to hear any feedback in an intellectual manner about this analysis. I will not tolerate any blatant hate, or Anti-Jew speech.
I'd also like to say, I enjoyed how the Nazi's were portrayed so dark in this trailer. I would be interested in this film if it had a better narrative, or if it was an artsy political film on the story of Anne Frank. Similar to how illustrations portrayed the story "Persepolis" by Marjane Satrapi in her childhood, and how art and metaphors symbolized events in her life. I enjoy the kind of, "political cartoon" type of media, especially in the form of film. It can be quite deep and metaphorical as well as philosophical. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if the directors of this movie were capable of such a masterpiece.
Movie is actually good but I don't understand why People turn the comment section into Twitter

@@joshuahernandez359 The United Nations official declaration that israel's occupation of Palestine is illegal under international law and the NUMEROUS human rights violations and Palestinians that jews murdered and also the fact that jews historically committed ACTUAL GENOCIDE multiple times (for example, the Canaanites). Ever read the old testament? Summary of THE BIBLE is that the old testament shows that jews are the problem and THE NEW TESTAMENT proposes CHRISTIANITY as THE SOLUTION. Also important to note that Germans viewed THE SWASTIKA as A CHRISTIAN CROSS.
@@joshuahernandez359 Historically anne frank passed away from typhus apparently BECAUSE the Germans didn't use ENOUGH zyklon B gas to delouse the jews in the camp where she was.

“I see angels Peter” You all know what happened to her family after they were arrested.. 😞😞
she saw demon coming to Bomb the German people rape the women & children & make up the biggest lie in history to cover up the Holodomor where the communist chews murder 60+ Million White Christians in Russia / Ukraine.
Interesting work of fiction, just like the book!
That nick is a nice slap
Based Ben Shapiru don't lie. A story so epic that Anne had to invent the ball point pen just to write it.
WW2 is not fiction stfu 🖕
@shrekxrohankishibe2785 Literally a ball point pen. Have you even read the modern claims about the book? Originally, Otto claimed it was all Anne's work. After it was discovered by handwriting forensics that it was written in ball point pen and the handwriting didn't match, the claim had to be adjusted, so Otto said "Well, I changed it, to make it better, and to remove familial conflicts, uh, yeah, totes still real tho."
Pathetic small hattery.
Let her rest for fucks sake
There hook noses are drawn to small!
“Ann’s did not write this diary so you could”
Good point Anne did not write this diary.
“I see angels Peter “………I don’t think so Anne.
Historians and scientists have confirmed that Anne did write the diary.

Anne Frank's diary was a great fiction book.
Yes a really great fairy tail I really wish it all happened for real though that would be very cool! 😎
Historians and scientists have confirmed it was written by her though.
*Semi-fiction
I just watched it the ending was brutal
Nice piece of fiction about a girl who most likely never existed, who wrote a book with a writing impliment that didnt exist during her time. VERY COOL! THANK YOU!
Scientists agree that the book was written by her. She didn’t write in a ballpoint pen. She wrote in fountain pen
Anyone with the playlist from this animation movie
I haven’t seen the movie but the animation style attracted my attention. It’s a shame however that it seems to just be the abuse of history, and incredibly tragic history at that, just to make a misplaced political statement. As a Dutch person I can tell you that whereas racism and discrimination sadly exist, the majority of the people aren’t racist and the Netherlands is not governed by f@scists or n*zis or even a racist government that just arrests and locks poc/ migrants up for no reason. Deportation _is_ sometimes a very unfair thing, but it is something we have no control over- and sadly it seems to affect people who have integrated into our culture and respect us, while the government does everything in its power to keep migrants who don’t behave here. I remember a news article about a Syrian (?) migrant family who was told to leave the country (they don’t actively get deported; they revoke their citizenship/passports and force them to leave) over a decade after they’d arrived. They spent that long living in uncertainty of whether they’d be allowed to stay or not, and had kids in the meantime who grew up as Dutch people, only to be forced to go “back” to a country they never knew. The Dutch protested against this action and wanted the family to stay, but the government didn’t budge. Meanwhile there’s another news article from last year about a middle- eastern migrant who r-ed and attempted to m-der a then underage girl. He got only three years in prison, because any higher sentence would’ve made him lose his citizenship.
Moral of the story, the whole situation about migration to the Netherlands is complicated and multilayered, and it’s downright disrespectful to just paint the Dutch as racist xenophobes who don’t want anyone here who’s not white using Anne Frank’s story, where she was harboured and looked after by the Dutch for several years. People have no respect towards history anymore these days. They don’t learn from it, only use it and rewrite it to fit their narrative or political views. It’s a thing as old as history itself but it’s sad.
