Without specifying, I know families with roots to the United Punjab, who speak Punjabi fluently but refuse to accept it as their mother tongue. These people are brainwashed by non-Punjabi politicians. It is sad that Punjabis and Bangalis contributed and suffered most for freedom from British and these two States were partitioned.

Punjabi was thought to be the language of us (Sikhs) as our religious use of Punjabi language in Gurmukhi script. That was unfortunate for the sweet language Punjabi. Movies produced by Punjabi producers started introducing songs based on Punjab culture. Now, after 70 years people have realized the mistake and are working to correct it.
I don't think we Indians disregarded Punjabi language. It is one of the most beautiful languages of our country, infact Punjabi literature, Punjabi music, Punjabi movies are enjoyed throughout the country. And I've seen comments of many international people on Punjabi music video.

Agitations by people made it possible. Even in that, Punjabi speaking Hindus did not participate. Look at current census of Punjab what % of people gave Punjabi as their language. You will find it to be same as religious composition of the State. No other State has this issue.

جب کبھی مقامی زبانوں کو ملک کی سرکاری زبان بنانے کا بل آتا ہے ، وفاقی کابینہ میں آپ کے اپنے پنجابی ارکان اس کی مخالفت کرتے ہیں کہ یہ ملک کو تقسیم کرے گا۔ اگر بھارت 22 زبانوں کے ساتھ زندہ رہ سکتا ہے تو پاکستان کیوں نہیں۔ اگر یہ فیصلہ جناح دور میں ہوتا تو ہم بنگلہ دیش سے محروم نہ ہوتے۔ اور افسوس کہ جو لوگ اردو کو دفتری زبان کے طور پر پسند کرتے ہیں ، کئی بار یہ بھول جاتے ہیں کہ یہ بدقسمتی کی بات ہے کہ تقریبا office تمام دفتری دستاویزات اور درخواستیں انگریزی میں نمٹائی جاتی ہیں اور اردو میں یا میری مقامی زبان سندھی میں درخواست دینا مضحکہ خیز سمجھا جاتا ہے
