Even Punjabis that only speak urdu speak with a strong punjabi accent. People can tell you are a punjabi a mile away, you cannot escape your roots.

I think pakistani young generation is now so wise for their mother tongue. We indian punjabi learn our language in pre primary schools and feel proud to speak in sweet language
we are taught urdu and we can speak punjabi too but in lahore kids prefer urdu because it's more comfortable

Well if we go back in history during mughal rule persisn was the langauge of education, and prestige similar to how English is today. During Mahraja Ranjit Singhs time Persian was also the official langauge of Punjab. Then during the time of the British, Urdu was the official langauge of Punjab. So I suppose they have continued with that tradition, rightfully, or wrongfully. Although in terms of punjabi speakers, there are far more in Pakistan then India.

Salute to Tamilians and other South Indians ( Kannadigas Malayalis and Telugus)who are extremely proud of their ancient mother tongue. They use English for all its benefits but retain the usage of mother tongue to the fullest .
The resisted succeesfully aggressive Hindi implementation by central government unlike a few oher groups in north and western India who were swallowed up by Hindi . However the southerners haven't fully blocked Hindi .In the right spirit of Indian nationhood they have given it just the required place as an Indian alternative to english as a link with other groups in India. Also the ancient classical Sanskrit language is preserved more effectively by South Indians. And remember one of the earliest varieties( some say the first) of Urdu language was shaped by south Indians in deccan plateau the Dakhini variety.

Punjabis born in Canada, USa etc dont speak proper Punjabi. Some only speak few sentences properly. Others answer in English to questions asked in Punjabi.

@@harshwindersingh1653 Punjabi could be their sub culture which they experience in family get togethers or at home. But in the west, main culture of whites influence them more. In few generations all punjabi culture is gone. You cannot be Punjabi for that long outside of Punjab. There is an expiry date for a culture outside of its origin.

Asalamwalaykum, as a Bangladeshi I love my Punjabi Pakistani Muslim brothers and sisters no matter what. However, us Bangladeshis are proud of our language but in Pakistan it seems the elite of Punjab are ashamed to speak their beautiful language. I understand speaking Urdu with non Punjabis because Urdu is the unifying force of the nation but when in Punjab especially cities with deep Punjabi roots be proud of your Punjabi roots and speak with your fellow Punjabis in your beautiful language. Promote it in your schools and workplace too wherever Punjabis dominate. I mean look at the Pathan brothers they are proud of their Pashto Zaban. I feel besides Urdu if regional languages were promoted in Pakistan in that region of Pakistan us Bangladeshis probably would never left Pakistan. Inshallah feeling Punjabi is low class language mentality mindset goes away from some of my brothers and sisters mindset Amin.
