I was in the Yeronga State Primary School Band in 74 & 75, playing the Fife. The Happy Wanderer and The Marines Hymn were the two main songs that we played each school day when the morning assembly was finished. God Save the Queen was our National Anthem at the time, played every morning whilst the Australian flag was raised.
I love to go a wandering, along the mountain track. And as I go, I love to swing, my knapsack on my back. Val-de ri, Val de ra, Val-de-ra, Val de ra! Ha ha ha ha ha. Val de ri,Val de ra, my knapsack on my back.
This was the first march that I learned in my Scout band. It came out every church parade. My formal music education consisted of learning the scale of C major, so when that key change into D major (for a B flat instrument) arrived half way through, I was thrown!

The best rendition of this tune is by the Obernkirchen Childrens Choir. These orphans of Churchill's bombing campaign won the Llangollen International Eisteddfod with that song in 1953, propelling them and the tune up the charts all around the world. The original can be found on UA-cam but sound quality is not good.

this rendition is very nice played - Military Bands do have a really good sound.
Lucky enough to hear it while I was following the guards on Remembrance Sunday. A LOT of cuckoo clocks play this song, including one of mine.
If I were a country this would be my national anthem.
Impressive rendition of the old mountain hiking song Und schwenken meinen hut!
The Regimental March of the Australian SAS
