I was born in downtown Detroit and grew up in the Detroit area … My brothers and I used to ride our bicycles across the Ambassador Bridge into Canada and back with no documentation at all. That was 50 years ago.
25 years ago would ride my bike onto one of the ferries over to canada and go north catch a ferry back across with nothing more than a wave from customs.
In Vancouver very much like Detroit a border city with Washington state back in the Late 70 s when going to Seattle all the American border Guards ask was have you boys been drinking ?
Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, and our international Singing Competition (Sweet Adelines, barber shop singing) was last minute moved to Detroit… our chorus could only find lodging in Canada. SOOO everyday twice a day we went through Customs! The only ‘trouble’ we had was first trip back into Canada the agent had me open on second sliding door to see all of us 7 women! And then… he ASKED us to SING😂😂😂❤️❤️❤️❤️
I crossed over into Canada on the Pacific Northwest side this past Fall, and it was smooth both ways. My daughter and grandson were with me and we had all of our documentation ready. Everyone was nice and friendly!
Detroit is the worst place to cross back over into the States, at least with our 30 years of experience. We stopped going through Detroit and started going north through Sarnia. They are much more cordial.😊
I’m a senior woman alone. Detroit inspectors treated me like a criminal - because I didn’t buy anything in Canada except orange juice. They tore apart everything in my car and reduced me to tears. All I wanted to do was visit my daughter.
@priscillawrites6685 I'm so sorry that happened to you. My husband and I got tired of being treated badly at the Detroit crossing coming back to our own country. All the border workers we dealt with seemed angry and extremely rude. Sarnia is a much more pleasant place to cross over into Michigan. We generally go into Canada at Buffalo or Niagara Falls, and leave through Sarnia. We've also crossed back into the States at Sault St Marie and had no problem.
As a Canadian, who has spent a lot of time in the US, I have crossed the border at many locations, many times. I completely agree how the border crossings into the US are more of a challenge, than coming into Canada. I have no issue with a thorough check or a search if the border guard is pleasant, and most are, but several times, the US Border Guards have been unnecessarily rude and aggressive - little bully boys who feel big in a uniform. This always leaves me with a bad feeling and does not represent the USA well.
Everybody has a boss. If you feel the treatment was rude you should make a complaint. Everybody has a personnel file with their employer and repeated complaints will definitely be addressed in-house. If you're not willing to take the time to do this you are part of the problem, not the solution. No, this is not being a Karen, it is holding people accountable appropriately for their behavior. That being said we all have bad days so that should be considered.
I found the same thing,, The US Border guards gave me a hard time but going back to Canada was easy. However, I made my avocados into guacamole before I headed into the states, and bananas into banana nut muffins so nothing got thrown out.
Geez YES just going from Louisiana through NV to go straight up to Seattle. CA wanted to take my Texas grapefruits beautiful stamped inspected everything but California didn’t want those inspected grapefruit passing through their State! I sat at a restaurant for over two hours trying to figure out how I was going to drive without going through CA. Result: Took the meat out of the fruit and then drove thru California.
I hear you girl. I'm parked at my friends house. I think a few years ago people might've had a beef with me parking in their neighborhood. Due to the economic times we live in, more than a few people here have campers in their driveways, or yards. Some might be B&B but majority are relatives or friends living in them. I might go to an RV park eventually, but for now everything you said about having your own bed, fridge etc vs a guest room is exactly my feelings.
Yes, the Detroit crossing is the more difficult crossing. I have done it every year for the last 5 years. The new bridge construction isn't helping. Hope it gets better after the new Gordie Howe Bridge opens.
Then why do people keep voting for a particular party who allow millions of illegal aliens to cross the Southern border while harrassing an innocent American citizen like this woman? It is just evil to keep letting this happen
Ok I’m Canadian and spent 43 years as a commercial driver crossing back and forth over pretty much every border crossing between our two countries. It doesn’t matter which way you are going. You will encounter pleasant agents and those that like to show the fact that you are under their control and that is true for either side. Carrying food seems to be a bigger issue going south but there are regulations to protect against carrying disease in the food either way. Rv’s tend to get searched more often for those returning to their home.
Robin, you are correct regarding the comfort of your Brooklyn Bed mattress. We bought one for our guest bedroom, and every single guest has reported that it’s the most restful night’s sleep they’ve had in quite some time.
I am a plane owner/pilot, and they searched my plane when I entered into Canada and when I landed in Seattle on the way back. I think it is a good idea.
2016 road-trip in Volkswagen van… stopped, delayed and searched at the Canadian border. Not an issue. Until seeing this video I always thought it was because we were two older hippy chicks with Colorado drivers license (MMJ concerns, anyone?). Safe travels, y’all and to our Little Bird, Robin!
Coming back into the US has always been more difficult. When I was in my 20’s, in the 1970’s, I crossed back into the US from Canada, BC. I was accompanied by my Grandmother, younger sister, and my Irish Setter. I did have all the correct paperwork for my dog. Perhaps it was just a bad day for the person at the border, but the first thing they did was rather aggressively ask if my dog was an American dog (while I’m handing him my registration and vet records). Unfortunately, it was just too funny a question to me and I replied (stupidly), “No she’s Irish.” Well that did not go over well and we ended up having the whole car searched. Lesson learned don’t mess with border patrol especially in this era.
Thanks for this one! And yes it is strange visiting someone with our home behind us. Stayed with my brother and sister-in-law for a month when we started fulltiming. He couldn’t understand either why we didn’t stay in their spare room. Why when the camper is so comfy!
@@palco22 we go to Florida 2x a year from Canada and I have experienced how badly many Florida's drive....geez oh Pete...glad my car has a dash cam!!! Cheers! Mike 🇨🇦
When my late husband and I crossed from Montana and to Canada, they pounced on our van like a herd. My husband told them if they took things out of the van, they better put it back the same way that we had it packed. We were there about an hour. And they did they had it all organized and put it back properly.
First of all, you didn't ask but I think you went through at the perfect time, when traffic was low and it is common for people to miss the rv lane any time of day. But late at night or early in the morning it's far less hassle if you do miss. I think you did a great job getting through if you ask me.
We just spent 3 months in Canada , when we can back to the USA the border agent asked to come inside our Motorhome but when he saw our two dogs (calm and well behaved Labradors )he change his minds and told us to go , he was obviously very afraid of dogs 😂
It's nice to know our borders are careful who enters. That mattress looks heavenly! Your friends home on the lake looked so peaceful and fun. Hope you both planned to meet again soon.
Not so on d southern border. Look how many illegals r allowed. No vetting, no ID, no passport ..all r welcome😅. And to think they r strict on d US citizens and lax on d illegals. Smh.
I lived near Niagara falls, and never had any issues coming into or back from Canada. I live in Baja Mexico now, 90 miles from the border. I went up for a few months in a row. Last time I went, they stopped me and searched my car 5 hours b4 letting me go. That was after waiting in line 2 hours. I havent gone back up
I remember when you could go over to Canada without even showing a driver's license. The Canadian border has always been easier and more polite to go over than the US border, and I'm from the US. My C class got searched in 1997 when crossing over from Montana. I think largely because we were the only crossing so far that day. 😅
Yup. As a kid we regularly popped over at Niagara Falls. As an adult with a 30 year old felony cannabis conviction it’s a very different story 😅 However, always so polite and professional. Only time I was ever searched was at Detroit in 1984 (before my legal issues)
Love the Yarker area. Closer to Kingston than Toronto but if you’re not familiar with the area you wouldn’t know. I have my trailer parked on a friend’s property not far from Yarker so that’s why I’m familiar with it. Great time to come no bugs, and the colours of the leaves have been changing but hopefully you’ll still see natures artwork. Enjoy your visit with your friend and welcome to Canada.
I had my jeep searched when I crossed into Canada several years ago. I had just bought my jeep a few weeks before and was on a road trip with my 14 yrs old daughter. The border agents could not believe I would take a new vehicle on a road trip across Canada and the US! So they were suspicious. HA!!!!
On our first trip in our motor home to Florida from Canada, our rig was searched at the US border! We didn’t have anything to hide and the Customs Officers were pleasant!
My folks used to go up to British Columbia in their Mortor Home. I remember my mom getting all the documents together, along with information for their dog! She too did some research prior to making the trip with an animal. Safe travels! Great info about the RV mattress! We all know how very uncomfortable the "stock" ones are..
I recently had two crossings where they went through everything I had with me. Once I was on a bicycle coming back into Canada from St. Pierre Island on a ferry. I had 2 panniers with a tent strapped on. The other one was when I entered back into Maine by VW Golf. Of course, I had nothing I wasn't suppose to. I am 79, female and traveled for two months through Newfoundland/Labrador and other Atlantic provinces. I am from KY.
I live downstate but we have family property in the U.P. near the boarder. We’ve never had any issues in the Soo but never took our RV’s over. Canadian boarder control officers are soooo great! Our Wi-Fi in the U.P. Is better then the WiFi we have at home. The US is always harder to get into and they are not as nice.
When you were going OUT of Canada - you report to U.S. Border Service Agents on the way INTO the U.S. Losing only an Avocado to a Border Inspection would be a win in my books! There’s a lot of meat & produce that you cannot bring into the U.S. They’re just protecting their agricultural industry from pests & diseases, as every sovereign country is entitled to do.
The Canadian border has always been easy to cross into Canada and hell getting back into the US. I made this journey untold times and about half the time they would search our cars, vans, horse trailers coming back into the US. It has always been that way as long as I have been doing it and I started in the mid 1960's until just a couple of years ago. Nothing new. Just know that it will happen to your at some point.
I live in Washington and I have never had a problem going into Canada by car, ferry, motorcycle, or on foot. I was made to throw away apples when crossing by boat and learned to not shop for fruit before going into Canada. I’m not sure if I have ever had an easy time going back into the US. Most of the time it’s nothing much but they have made me go sit in the station while they searched my car. They impounded my boat which I had bought in Canada and I told them I wanted to import it. They wouldn’t accept the form I filled out until I hired an import broker to submit the form. It was only 24 hours but I was on an island and I was happy they let me stay on the boat while it was being figured out. I had planned to stay at that marina anyways, but I hadn’t planned on spending the day on the phone doing paperwork. They even let me use their fax machine, but it was probably the only one on the island
Having to toss fresh fruit and veggies is nothing new. I'm 67 and we would take the bridge to Canada from Detroit growing up. My dad would stop and get some fruit while in Canada and told us we had to eat it all before going home. As a family of 7 that wasn't too hard to do. I live just 30 minutes south of the bridge. I've ran that bridge three times doing a half marathon. Welcome to Michigan!
Yes it's worse going back into US. I went to see family then came back and they made me go in the blding so they could tear through my jeep and one bag I had. Kept me there over an hour then smirked about it when they gave my keys phone, and id back. Was terrible. They did it cause they could.
i grew up in a camping family .. we went to canada countless times ( my parents were so in love with nova scotia) .. we( our trailer) always got searched.. when i've gone in the last twenty years ( i go up often to see relatives ), with just my car, they never check .. no matter how many times i've crossed the border, it's always a different experience , and it's always a bit tense , and apprehensive feeling .. safe travels :-)))
The raw fruit and raw meat thing isn't new. We had to do the same thing when we came back into the States when I was only 8 years old and we'd been camping in Canada one summer. Mom had to toss out half a crate of apples that she'd bought and luckily we only had to toss out less than half a pound of ground beef!
best is having something they like eating on top ...and the Québec raw milk cheeses hidden underknief, so they usually confiscated the California grapes since you can't import US grapes from Canada into USA and let the German style saucisses, the Swiss style dried beef and the Isle de Madeleine raw milk cheeses untouched
Well sure glad you made it back!!! Your haircut is so cute!!! Traveling around, do you just luck out and happen upon great stylist or are you cutting it yourself? Love it. 🌿
Detroit customs…you don’t want to mess around and they let you know it. Just an avocado? Your experience could have been a lot worse. Welcome to Michigan!
I believe the rv customs is located on the left side of the right section (if that makes sense) near the center. But last time we crossed here we got pulled from that line into the truck lanes always a new adventure crossing the border 😊 Safe travels
The title of this piece is a little misleading. It’s not that Canada made it difficult for you to go out. The US made it difficult for you to go back in.
I crossed the border to Mexico under Trump and Biden a few times a month. Crossing was easier and faster under Trump. I thought Biden would be easier, but the border got more strict under Biden. Much longer per car, like from 1 min (Trump) to 10 min (Biden), then secondary searches under Biden that never happened under Trump. There is a huge difference.
@common_c3nts Yes. People beleive a lot of lies repeated for 8 years over and over. A bunch have actually changed their vocabulary, easily identifying them.
I'm glad you enjoyed your trip to Ontario! I live in a border town, and I'm always nervous crossing, even if I'm just going over for lunch.. We have a trailer and have taking it across a couple of times, and had no problem. (Which was a relief!).
Live in Subaru Crosstrek. Stayed couple times in Hotels when I was sick but looked forward to going back to my Crosstrek. It’s my home. People don’t understand but I’m happy.
I’m sure you could visit but yes our gun laws are very different and you would have to leave those fire arms behind that you can’t get permits for. I have never wanted to own a gun but I don’t hunt. My dad did though, went every year. And there are lots of women here that do.
Same happened to me coming into to U.S. from Canada after visiting PEI. I was also towing and didn't have an issue either way with lanes. Going in to Canada, I was excited and said, hi how are you. The tone way set really fast . He said fine. Oops, I'll know next time, answer questions only. My trailer was searched as well returning to U.S. I'll go back again as I had a great time. Looks like your trip went well, except for the avocado :)
They have agriculture laws around food. Even in the US this used to happen. In the 8-'s I hitched over the border. We walked through. Our backpacks were searched, they found mace which was illegal, and we had to drain the canisters. Also, had some fruit, they asked us to throw out. We drained the-mace and ate the fruit. That night I became biolently ill! 😮. Don't mix mace with eating is my take home!
We just traveled from NH to the upper peninsula of Michigan. We entered Canada at Niagara Falls with no issues, even though we admitted to having pepper spray in our camper (25ft tag along). We entered the US at Sault ste Marie and our camper was searched and all of our produce was confiscated.
Unfortunately I can’t easily travel through Canada…or Mexico. I travel with four parrots and two dogs. And though with proper health certificates I could leave the USA, I would likely have trouble returning. There’s new legislation that would make even interstate travel difficult for exotic birds. But we have plenty to see here ❤️
MARY from Plano, Texas? With a singing parrot named Juan? And a parrot named PePe! I moved to Florida and lost track of you!! Its Diana S from Aquarius.
We were stopped going into Canada in 2018 in our Class C towing the jeep. They searched both vehicles for a good 40 mins. But we think it's because my husband was a retired Law Enforcement. They kept asking about weapons and are you sure! It can be intimidating and confusing on where you should be going.
Same here. I was a Corrections officer at the time, moving back to Alaska. They emptied my UHaul and found an old black powder pistol that didn't even fire. I told them it was just a "wall hanger" display. But since I hadn't intentionally disabled it I was now a "gun smuggler". Then they confiscated my truck...but were glad to sell it back to me for 500 canadian. I also had a 17' kayak strapped to the top of my truck wrapped in plastic wrap. Could have had ton of contraband in it (didn't) and they showed zero interest. Keystone cops. This was on the West Coast. Blaine, I think. 21 years ago. Haven't been back since.
We recently took a trip from Canada to the U.S. and they searched the back of my truck and RV going into the U.S. but coming back into Canada was much easier. All they asked was for the registration for my truck and trailer. We had all the documentation ready.
I went to Canada once. In a rental car. They grilled me about a half an hour about why I was going there, who I was going to see. NUTS. So the next time it was requested that I go, I declined.
I saw a documentary on crossing the border into Canada. A man told the officer that he was going to help his girlfriend's mother to build an addition to the mother's house. The officer told this guy that he couldn't come into Canada cause he would be taking a job away from a Canadian. He was saved by his girlfriend who was able to basically convince the agent into agreeing that wasn't the case. Sheesh! I believe in protecting citizens but such stuff is over the top!
Crossing into and out of the US with food can be an issue. The US customs web site is not always clear, but generally never cross with fruits, vegetables and meats. Boarder agents in the past have always asked us the address we are spending the first night in the US. Going into Canada, just leave your guns at home. It is a huge issue for Canadians.
The real problem was you entered in a rental. People dump vehicles and the province you land become responsible to find. It's a logistical nightmare. Next time fly and rent.
Yes I agree! I live near Toronto and my cousin is near Lansing MI and we cross over in Sarnia usually! I went the opposite with my trailer one year and we had no issues either way. Too bad it was not smooth sailing but awesome that you were able to visit your Bestie!! 💕 Thanks for sharing!
We always cross at Woodstock, NB as we live in Nova Scotia. Even though we are Canadians, our fifth wheel is always gone through. It’s really no big deal. Absolutely HATE crossing back into the states.
I agree, coming into US is much more difficult. We came across in Minnesota. We had a 40’ class A towing a Honda CRV. They searched my refrigerator and made me throw away a tomato and they wanted me to throw away my basil plant. I explained it had been with me since we left our house in Arizona 6 weeks prior. He finally gave in and let me keep it. The border crossing seem to be in an industrial area where they were doing construction. Looked very similar to what you had to drive through. My husband definitely has to put his driving skills to the test.
Just recently crossed into us through detroit with our rv and nexus - guy was polite - did a walk through of our trailer and had his buddy move some barricades so we could get through - on way home Windsor nexus was fast and easy - detroit is way faster than port huron where we used to cross
Greetings from downtown Detroit. We have been in Canada all summer. Crossed back into US last week in Sault Ste. Marie. Easiest crossing into US ever except finding the entrance. Waiting for a tour of the MoTown Museum. Gotta go. Safe travels Robin
We cross from Canada to Maine all the time, they always check inside our fridge and make us throw out any vegetables. They will also take dog/cat food products that have meat, especially chicken. Even if the product was packaged in the US. No rhyme or reason. You just be polite and they will at times give you a break.
Back in the early 90s my husband and I lived on our powerboat and traveled often into Canada from our home dock in Seattle. Going thru customs (both into Canada and returning to the US) was routine for us, we were safe, insured, and followed the rules. I was surprised one summer when we cleared Customs into Canada at Victoria BC that they confiscated my cleaned, cut, refrigerated sliced nectarines in my Tupperware, that we were going to have for breakfast. 😮 in the PNW there is a very short window for getting juicy ripe nectarines and I was heartbroken. We always tried to visit the smaller out of the way customs locations, not the ones blasted by tourists. And they were often the safest as well. They may take more time to inspect but if everything is “ship shape” that’s never a problem, especially this was OUR home. I love watching your videos. Even tho we don’t live aboard anymore, we boondocked too, anchoring in bays or lucky enough to tie up to a park access free mooring buoy. Had a generator at that time for electric and diesel heater (of the fuel tank). Now days we would certainly have solar and Starlink. 😉 Still having your home with you and traveling off grid a lot, fishing, crabbing, eating our catch, purchasing from local farmers on the island or farmer markets…. Bliss. But safety and security, like RVers, vanlifers, etc is always heightened and that gut intuition is highly developed and a must. Good travels and peaceful stops❤️
Forty years plus ago (while in my 20s), I flew and met a friend who lived in Rochester NY to see the Fall colors. We took his car from there, which was technically a rental car as his family owned rental car agencies, and every car his family drove was owned by the rental car company. We then drove to Niagra Falls, Toronto, Ottowa and Montreal, then headed south to Vermont. We had no issues going into Canada, but coming back into the US, they said they were checking for drugs and darn-near DISASSEMBLED the car, pulling all of the door panels, seats, spare tire, trunk covering. And when done, Border Patrol just said rudely "you can go" with zero apology and left us with the car all torn up and the parts laying in the parking lot. To the point where the car was almost undriveable. We threw the stuff back in the car and drove to Burlington, Vermont and "turned in" the car to the local rental agency and got a new car to finish our trip. His family then swapped out later on to get his car back. I have thought how lucky we were that his family owned the rental car agency.
Hey Robin. Love the channel. Have you looked at the Roamer 1 Rv travel trailer or the Ember TT. These are heavy duty off road TT’s. The insulation and the way their built looks fantastic. I wish they had a larger cargo area for my motorcycle 🏍️ Stay safe. ❤
If you plan on exploring Mexico or Canada and crossing frequently it may be worth it to get global entry or nexus. They still do random searches but it is a more streamlined process. In any case, some years ago I got searched and I have both a passport and a Michigan license. Although I was recovering from food poisoning in Toronto so I admit I looked pretty disheveled.
yep same always easier to get into Canda than back into your own country. Going to Canada normally takes averages 30seconds to a minute max pending on the agent, going back to U.S. 2 to 5 minutes
Hello! Are you coming to Quebec? Wow, you are in for quite the experience ;-) We had the search done to us when crossing back into Canada from Haines, Alaska…they told us we had been “chosen” 😂😂😂😂 Despite the Nexus card and all…😂😂😂 When crossing into another country, you’ve got to be ready/prepared…. For anything :-) Thanks for sharing. Welcome to Canada! Hope you have/had a great time! Life too short not to experience another country!
I haven’t crossed for many years, long before our current border issues. Try having 5 young people in a van, lol. We were searched entering Canada 🇨🇦. We answered questions honestly, we were going to find the first bar and get drunk 😂. Coming back was a nightmare. We took the bridge over and the tunnel (Detroit) back. Almost got completely lost. Man, it was fun being young and stupid! I’ve always wanted to go back. Canadians are AWESOME!
🇨🇦 we've had the same experiences both ways. Sometimes sail right through... others end up tossing food. You went by our town. Glad you made it to your Canadian events. Happy travels. 🇨🇦
We have often had trouble finding the right line with our RV when entering the US. Never when returning to Canada! Many US Rvs have documents that their insurance is valid in Canada, but I have never heard of it being asked for!
I hear ya on getting back to the US. Did a simple Niagara Falls trip. I had a headache in the line to Customs, figured it would be a 20 min wait, but it was 90+ mins. You could see the drug store just beyond customs, and see the line moving into Canada at a decent pace. Of course getting into the US was a parking lot.
I was born in the US and my parents are Canadian both my Dad and I were Marines. Never fails I have always had a hard time crossing the border at Detroit. They searched my RV too and were extremely rude in the office filling out paper work. And they made me put my service dog in a kennel out side the office which is illegal to separate us. They act like they are above the law.

It was only difficult as you went to the wrong lane.
In the 90's we'd cross from Ontario into the US just to get Dennys breakfast
Rough place. Full of crime now
In Vancouver very much like Detroit a border city with Washington state back in the Late 70 s when going to Seattle all the American border Guards ask was have you boys been drinking ?
I'm in Alberta , and even in the mid-90's I could cross over into Montana with no documentation and no hassle .
However… the rest of the chorus on the chartered BUS had get OFF the bus and walk through the customs building into the USA🤯… everyday!
Memories! Love ‘em! Happy Trails!
I live in Canada 🇨🇦 a Canadian..glad our borders are doing their job.
You did one thing perfectly when dealing with customs….be polite no matter how bad it gets.
Wait until we have to hand our ID over to Elon's AI robots, and there's no humans in sight...
@@margl7793 The only thing I can think is that if I had to live in Detroit I'd probably be mad at the world too....Sad people.
@scottg5588 That has crossed my mind Scott. Very good point. 👍
I’m from the area and I hate coming back to the US through Detroit. Sarnia is better and Sault Sainte Marie is just downright fun.
I love sleeping in my own bed no matter where I go. It’s your home and it feels so wonderful. Most people don’t understand that. 😊great video.
I've never had issue crossing into Canada. Coming back into the US by car and by plane has always been a bigger deal.
Getting into your country is a hassle it's always nice coming home through our side. She's so over prepared for Canada.
Thanks for taking us across the US-Canada border both ways, Robin! Learn something new every day. Oh that mattress....!
Sadly, it's the correct representation of the USA: bullies!
Sarnia is always amazing to cross through!!! :D
Do you have a food-preparation license for that? 😁
Thank you for visiting Canada, hope you had fun. As a home sick Canadian living abroad thanks. Come back.
Agreed Detroit for truckers too is one of the hardest and most strict compared to all the other boarder crossings.
It brings my heart joy to learn they’re naming a bridge after Gordie Howe! A legend and a gentleman, a real role model.
Leave it to our US government to make it difficult to enter without proper lane signage and then act annoyed when the RVer enters the wrong lane.
Exactly right
Robin, you are correct regarding the comfort of your Brooklyn Bed mattress.
Lesson learned don’t mess with border patrol especially in this era.
lisamorrisette171 : Yes, some of them don't have a sense of Ha Ha
Thanks for this one! And yes it is strange visiting someone with our home behind us. Stayed with my brother and sister-in-law for a month when we started fulltiming. He couldn’t understand either why we didn’t stay in their spare room. Why when the camper is so comfy!
We call it Canada Border Services Agency (It's a service) ...In the US it called U.S. Customs and Border Protection (It's to protect from Canadians).
I'm from Florida. We've seen how some of you drive. 😉
@@kilngoddess424 Well, now that you've seen how it's done ... have you improved your skills ?
I was going to say I'm from Virginia and we shudder when we see a Florida tag. I'll take a Quebec tag any day 😂
@@palco22 we go to Florida 2x a year from Canada and I have experienced how badly many Florida's drive....geez oh Pete...glad my car has a dash cam!!!
Cheers!

I'm Canadian. We are truly deadly.
When my late husband and I crossed from Montana and to Canada, they pounced on our van like a herd. My husband told them if they took things out of the van, they better put it back the same way that we had it packed. We were there about an hour. And they did they had it all organized and put it back properly.
They emptied my large uhaul truck and told me I had to put it all back, which I did. Couldn't get away from those a-holes fast enough.
Legally they can leave your vehicle in pieces on the side of the road.
I bet they even said "Sorry Eh"
You’re lucky they did that, cause they definitely didn’t have to.
How did that go staying 3 months, I think I would be cool.
@@michellehenry6278 We travel full time in a motorhome , we are in Alaska right now
It's nice to know our borders are careful who enters. That mattress looks heavenly! Your friends home on the lake looked so peaceful and fun. Hope you both planned to meet again soon.
Not our Southern border
Bwahaha! 1.2 million undocumented crossings on our southern border.
Your kidding, right? I thought US has open borders.
Not so on d southern border. Look how many illegals r allowed. No vetting, no ID, no passport ..all r welcome😅. And to think they r strict on d US citizens and lax on d illegals. Smh.
Dude! Get a clue! Turn on the news once a week.
I guess it’s up to the person at the boarder how easy or hard to cross over. So happy you had a wonderful time reconnecting with your friend 😊
As an adult with a 30 year old felony cannabis conviction it’s a very different story 😅
However, always so polite and professional. Only time I was ever searched was at Detroit in 1984 (before my legal issues)
I think that the Canadians are nicer in general (Sorry...).
@willjay916 certainly less suspicious
I remember!✌🐢
Wow you came through my city Windsor
Love the Yarker area. Closer to Kingston than Toronto but if you’re not familiar with the area you wouldn’t know. I have my trailer parked on a friend’s property not far from Yarker so that’s why I’m familiar with it. Great time to come no bugs, and the colours of the leaves have been changing but hopefully you’ll still see natures artwork. Enjoy your visit with your friend and welcome to Canada.
I am from Ontario and have never even heard of Yarker. Cottage country to me has always been MUSKOKA!
@@FrankBullitt390 I thought I was the only one who has never heard of Yarker & l'm also Cdn from Ontario
Windsor-Detroit border crossing can crazy busy so going early was smart! I am not that far from the border (Canadian side).
My folks used to go up to British Columbia in their Mortor Home. I remember my mom getting all the documents together, along with information for their dog! She too did some research prior to making the trip with an animal. Safe travels! Great info about the RV mattress! We all know how very uncomfortable the "stock" ones are..
Glad you got to see your friend! Fabulous! Happy you’re safe🫣
25‰ off? Holy cow! Thank you!
Great video my friend. 💯 Thanks for sharing your time with us 2 Canadians 🇨🇦 living in Mexico. 🇲🇽✌🏼
I'm a dual citizen of Canada and the States, never had trouble crossing. It helps having a NEXUS card, you're already pre-approved
We had the same experience. Easy Peazy getting in to Canada. Went through our fridge in Calais, ME
I live in Washington and I have never had a problem going into Canada by car, ferry, motorcycle, or on foot.
Another great video Robin! Thanks for taking us on your journey 😊
Love it. 🌿
As a child of Canadian we used to go across the border as in a few times per year. It was very difficult to get across into America.
Detroit customs…you don’t want to mess around and they let you know it. Just an avocado? Your experience could have been a lot worse. Welcome to Michigan!
I believe the rv customs is located on the left side of the right section (if that makes sense) near the center. But last time we crossed here we got pulled from that line into the truck lanes always a new adventure crossing the border 😊
Safe travels
The title of this piece is a little misleading. It’s not that Canada made it difficult for you to go out. The US made it difficult for you to go back in.
Exactly- so many people from the US get this wrong
I crossed the border to Mexico under Trump and Biden a few times a month. Crossing was easier and faster under Trump. I thought Biden would be easier, but the border got more strict under Biden. Much longer per car, like from 1 min (Trump) to 10 min (Biden), then secondary searches under Biden that never happened under Trump.
There is a huge difference.
That is correct!
I could never go into Canada because I have a huge arsenal in my RV!
I’m sure you could visit but yes our gun laws are very different and you would have to leave those fire arms behind that you can’t get permits for. I have never wanted to own a gun but I don’t hunt. My dad did though, went every year. And there are lots of women here that do.
@@Jo81562 I don't hunt either. But I've been boondocking fulltime for 7 years now.... guns are for my protection :-)
I’m waving to you as you drive thru Burlington on the way to Toronto.🇨🇦
Gotta watch out for those avocados ...lol😂
Bear spray is sold in hardware stores in Canada, but pepper spray is not allowed.
I love raw videos like this !
I feel so scared going through customs, even though I don't have anything. 😂 It's just high stress and anxiety time!
I'm so glad that you got to see your friend.
I live along the Mexican border. When I went through the Falfurias check point, border Patrol xrayed my rig. Looking for stowaways or stash!
This was very helpful! ❤ Also a toll for a citizen to enter their own country is NUTS. 😅
The toll was likely for driving on a bridge but would have nothing to do with border crossing.
We have those rules as does the US. It is a separate country and we have to follow rules going into the States. It isn't an extension of the States .
I visit my friend in Maine and stay in her backyard with my motor home every summer we’ve been friends for 58yrs
Your hair looks great Robin!
First time viewer. Great videos! I'm looking forward to many more.
Interesting they made you throw out the avocado 🥑 because it was grown in either California or Mexico, not Canada
Still having your home with you and traveling off grid a lot, fishing, crabbing, eating our catch, purchasing from local farmers on the island or farmer markets…. Bliss. But safety and security, like RVers, vanlifers, etc is always heightened and that gut intuition is highly developed and a must. Good travels and peaceful stops❤️
Depends on the portal as to the experience…. Both directions.
Can be horrendous or nice and smooth.
Good job staying pleasant !
I wish they had a larger cargo area for my motorcycle 🏍️
Stay safe.
One thing you cannot do at the border is have any of the border crossing guards on video. just a heads up
OMG, I LOVE our Brooklyn Bedding mattress, I don't get a backache when we RV.
Time of day makes a big difference
I haven’t crossed for many years, long before our current border issues. Try having 5 young people in a van, lol. We were searched entering Canada 🇨🇦. We answered questions honestly, we were going to find the first bar and get drunk 😂. Coming back was a nightmare. We took the bridge over and the tunnel (Detroit) back. Almost got completely lost. Man, it was fun being young and stupid! I’ve always wanted to go back. Canadians are AWESOME!
Well that was interesting! Thanks for sharing. Happy trails. 💖
Canada rocks!!
you spelled sucks wrong 😂
love how you seamlessly snuck that mattress commercial in there lol
