This video consists of two recent interviews in which Depeche Mode's lead singer, Dave Gahan, discusses his collaboration with Soulsavers, on their album, Imposter (2021), which includes their cover of the James Shelton song, Lilac Wine (made famous by Nina Simone). Dave also goes on to discuss Jeff Buckley's version, as well as seeing two of his concerts, and meeting him, afterwards.

I'm a little confused when DG says he saw Jeff live twice, one at the peak of Grace and yet didn't know Jeff sung Lilac Wine - it was ever present in his performances
@Bobby Ball I was originally confused, as well. I think the venue that Dave mentioned was possibly confused with the *Roseland* Ballroom. If this is the gig that he attended (the one where Jeff met Paul McCartney), then his story would make sense, as Jeff opened for Juliana Hatfield, that night, and only played a half set (which did not include Lilac Wine).

Been hearing a lot about Gahan and Cat Power's second new 'Covers' record lately, haven't been arsed enough to bother to check either out, though I'm much more of a Cat fan. Either record any good?
No idea; I haven’t listened to them.
To my ears the only first class cover of Lilac other than Jeff’s is the one by Nikki Wells (who worked with Nitin Sawhney)
