A lot has changed since Zero2Hero. This new series for 2024 will walk you through these changes, and include many new tips and tricks to improve your modding experience. Perfect time for a brew!
@rubotok3703 The market stuff? Are you on consoles or something? Bethesda's creation market has nothing to do with the mods he is talking about. If your on console you only get the mods Bethesda allows you to have. Through their "creations"... which is Bethesda's market place. The Mods he is talking about installing are more advanced mods then Bethesda allows in their "creations". These more advanced mods require SKSE and other patches and fixes, and are only available for PC users. If your on Xbox or Playstation you only have 1 game store to buy your game in the first place, but PC users have miltiple game stores. Imagine if you had 1 machine that had both the Xbox store and Playstation store on the same device and you could switch between the two. The game stores on PC Steam, GOG, and Epic games. Like to install themselves and the games into "program files" or "Program files (x86)". Inorder to properly mod the game the game CAN NOT be installed in these directories and its also preferred if Steam is not installed here either. We say Steam because it's the store we and most Skyrim PC players use... but the same advice goes for GOG and Epic.
THough I am no beginner, I still struggle to get (and keep!) everything surrounding modding Skyrim clean and organized. This series of video's seems to be exactly what I need (I have watched until and including part 4. I will follow it diligently and get back in the last video. So far: subbed and I love it. Thanks man, for you calm explanations and through guide!
Had to come back and say thank you. This is by far the best modding tutorial on youtube. You put in the time and effort to make it foolproof, we appreciate you man.
Im actually glad that i checked the comments before i got too far, I almost deleted my fresh install because i thought the video said that i needed another hard drive, well done in reiterating that. Im learning loads. Thanks!
My Steam unfortunately doesn't let me choose NOT to install in the program files - I am not sure what limitation is behind that. I went through every possible path but no luck. Equally, although I changed paths before, Steam always reverts back to what it wants (usually my OneDrive, which quite frankly, is super annoying). Maybe it's a Windows thing as well, I am on Win 10 (11 will never touch my PC! I made the mistake with my laptop. One mistake I came to regret a millions times over ...)
i am grateful very very grateful, the other vids are great but leave me in the wind and confused sometimes without being narrow and pointing out the key small details. Thanks
Thank you so much for your kind words. Means a lot. It’s easy to miss parts and confusing to know what order to do things in so my aim was to try and fix that :-)
@@ADHDecent question i always fall victim to an error with mod organizer 2 i follow the steps and get hit with " C:/user/playtech/AppData/Local/ModOrganizer/Skyrim Special Edition not found. you must create a new instance" anything helps im both new to modding and pc
Coming back to rewatch your steps again, suddenly hit by the craving for Skyrim. My old modlist was a bit buggy and didn't look that appealing, so here I am to learn from the best :D
Everything worked up until 4:14 - 4:32 when I clicked add a drive nothing showed up but my local drive. How come you didn’t explain how to make a second drive because it wasn’t shown in this video.
2nd drive requires... a 2nd drive. a hardware drive. you can make one by going to the store and spending money on a new drive to put into your pc. that's really what a drive is, a seperate storage location. it's not like a file you can just "make." if you read his pinned comment you can see that he specifies that you don't need a 2nd drive to mod skyrim specifically, just to move steam to a better location.
If you don't have another hard drive/ssd then I guess you can partition your existing C drive. Go into disk management, right-click C drive, shrink volume (make sure to choose enough space while also leaving plenty of space in the C drive since having that full will slow down your PC) then format the unnalocated partition and you should have a new 'separate drive'.
Haven't played in years. You are my first step on a long (load-order) journey back down the rabbit hole for 2024. Thank you for your concise, dedicated work. -Must thank GamerPoets for for turning me on to your channel a while back. Pruzah sul!

Uninstall both Skyrim AND your Steam installation. Create a new folder: C:\Games. Re-install Steam and immediately change Steam's default Games Library location to the folder you just created: C:\Games. Re-install Skyrim and Steam will default to using C:\Games for its installation.
Thanks for this Ill be following this series for now, I just bought the entirety of Skyrim before sales end, Ive tried modding it way before when NMM was the only thing available at the time with a cracked version. I tried getting into modding straight away (since played everything already) using MO2 and collections ive found on nexus mods, boy this is already my 3rd reinstallation of everything HAHAH after this series might you suggest mod/packs for (hotfixes/patches + overhauls + vanilla plus) thank you for your efforts good sir!
I really appreciate your kind words thank you. Means a lot to me! This series will certainly help you with the entire process once and for all! Towards the end of the series we’ll be looking at mods like you’ve mentioned :-)
Also wanted to add that in case it doesn’t go through the pop-up to detect video or detect you bought Anniversary Edition when you have, exit the game, right click in the library Skyrim Special Edition, go to properties, installed files, press verify integrity of files. Once all that is done close out of the properties window, launch the game, it should come up with the pop-up for detecting video quality and follow the video from there. At least that’s what happened for me. I may simply have had to exit and reenter the game and not even verify integrity of files.
This suggests your first attempt of a clean installation wasn’t in fact clean and some form of data was found from previous installations. Verifying essentially wipes any data that doesn’t directly match data in the actual game files. The fact it worked after verifying the game files means it found something somewhere. Don’t worry, it’s easily done which is why I’ve gone into depth in the video about it as many will believe simply “uninstalling” and “reinstalling” is enough.
@@ADHDecent For me, I think it pulled the install from my laptop to save bandwidth since I have a unmodded install with a vanilla character I am doing a play through on there.

Well I uninstalled first and then went through the files to delete things. And I guess double checked that the documents folder for Skyrim got deleted along with making sure I didn't have the folder shortcut in my moding folder. Those three things are the only things I can think of outside of the main Skyrim folder and app data that may have caused what I ran into. If there is one thing I have certainly come across while reinstalling both Skyrim and my overall libraries outside of the program files, uninstalling is not the same as deleting and certainly doesn't necessarily include it. I guess I can also add I made sure my recycle bin was empty.

ok so let me clear it out u also have to reinstal STEAM ? coz my steam is not on c driver but other 1 , but it is in program files! so i have 2 delete all games on steam and delete steam and reinstal all of it again in NO program files folder?!
Skyrim was updated recently for its creations, screwing up alot of mods. It would be great if the next video could be how to also step by step install popular mods like big graphics mods, animation adding, etcetera. I really just play mostly vanilla skyrim with bow intimating this all is
Wednesday’s episode will look into SKSE and testing for 1.6.1130, but the installing of mods will be covered further into the series once we have our base setup properly :-)
Is it possible to outsource the modding process? Me and modding this game just dont get along and im literally willing to pay someone at this point to get it working for me :(
You’re not alone! The update has caused many issues for modders. This series will cover all the changes and form the new foundation for anyone looking to start afresh
This is something I'm currently looking into to see if my PC would handle it. My PC is rather outdated for something as intense as Nolvus but I won't know for sure until I try! If it works it'll be something to cover in future
New to modding on PC and MO2 and man thank you for this at the point where I have my mods and working my hardest to make sure my LO is solid as can be 😭
@@ADHDecent No problem, also on your video when you created a new location folder for steam/skyrim did you just do a new folder or was their a specific location before setting the new folder?
Hey there, I recently started wanting to try modding, it's awesome that you're going to be walking through the whole process! Just curious, because I had issues with it earlier, will you be walking through how to install some other common modding addons like ENB and DynDOLOD? I've had to restart twice because for some reason I wasn't able to get my different mods to work, even whilst following someone else's mod list. Also, do you know if there are any discord communities committed to helping people with setting up Skyrim modding? Can't wait to see part 2+! Thanks for your content
2:19 which one are you referencing? You said Skyrim and steam. My Skyrim se is on the D drive but should I have steam on the D drive aswell. I’m at work and have to check when I get home
If steam doesnt allow to install games on different path, but only allows for a different drive like the issue I had. You have to reinstall steam entirely away from the program files it normally gets installed on. For example my steam is on a C:/Games/ directory
Love the guide! Thanks for all your efforts @adhdecent. I have a 1 TB nvme 2.0 drive, and operating system and games are on the same drive. I was able to delete steam and all related apps, then re install and use a new location instead of the program 86. I tried modding with vortex and MO2, I'm a newbie here to modding VR and skyrim. It has been hard to figure out the ordering of apps to resolve conflicts. Anyways, I love the content and look forward to your next video! Be well.
Ouch. CTD is a nightmare for sure! These were planned to be released weekly at the same time and day, but due to the response I’ve received from Part 1 I’m trying to see if I can bump them up a bit to keep people going
why do i have to completely uninstall everything and re download steam in somewhere else JUST to mod a game when my mods were working before without having to do any of that before? i had 200 mods with skyrim together and everything setup and just because i downlaoded the stupid new update i gotta undo my whole system?
Hello, I still see that you respond here (which is amazing work!!!) and so I thought I could ask a few questions. I'm about to buy Skyrim SE for the very first time. Unfortunately my steam is installed in ProgramFiles, and so I guess I'm supposed to install the game on another drive. My C: drive is the one in which my windows is installed aswell as steam. I do however have a 2nd drive on which I already have a few older and smaller steam games installed. Would it work for me to just install Skyrim SE on that 2nd drive? If so, does it matter where on that drive I install the game?
So my steam is in C: > Programfiles x86. I just downloaded SE and AE upgrade from steam yesterday but havent played yet. Havnt played or modded Skyrim in like 10 years so I feel like total noob. Anyway do I need to uninstall all my steam library and move it to another folder in order to get the most out of using mods for Skyrim? I have a lot of games on a pc I share with my wife. She has her own Windows account with her own steam account and games too. Will this fuck her shit up? Any advice is appreciated. And Thank You for the video, subbed.
@ADHDecent thank you so much for the time and skill you’ve put into these videos. I just threw up my hands in frustration with my Xbox Skyrim mere weeks ago and bought my new gaming desktop specifically for modding Skyrim. I am delighted with my good fortune to find your videos here. I’ve already watched the first 8 videos and I’m now starting my process and now I’ve run into my first snag during video #1: When I attempt to follow the directions to create the SSE shortcut, I go into my gaming file, then steam, steamapps, and common, the only file that is in common is Steamworks Shared; nothing else. However, when I go into my D-drive and open my SteamLibrary there and follow your directions there, then I find it. Is that where I’m supposed to create the shortcut, when cut/paste it back into my Skyrim Gaming Hub file in my C drive?
Thank you for your work mate, I'm switching from console to pc so I'm a noob😂😂 I didn't understand, i need to instal Windows in programs or in the same ssd of steam?
Hello. I am thinking about returning to Skyrim after few years. Back then, we used to 'clean the master files'. Is it not necessary anymore on AE version? Thank you.
It's a bit confusing but the only difference between Skyrim Special Edition and Skyrim Anniversary Edition now is that the Anniversary Edition has a bunch of Creation Club mods preinstalled on it which the Special Edition does not have. What matters most when modding either of these editions is their version. The latest versions for both editions right now is 1.6.1170. Some mods might use 'AE' to refer to the latest version but both editions are fine to use.
At the beginning of the video when you are deleting all of the files to reinstall everything in a new area would that mean you lose all of your saves from before you deleted Skyrim
Thank you so much for this video! I’m really looking forward to the series. I’ve been trying to do modding myself without much success. I do have a question about the end of the video. When you make the game directory, is that where we are going to link Vortex to instead of the actual game folder? I hope that made sense.
You’re very welcome! Hopefully this series will aim to cover as many elements as possible. Im excited to share the next one in a few days! If you mean our modding hub, it’s a folder designed to contain all of our modding for Skyrim. But the game directory is still where you’ll link your mod manager
I wish I would have found this guide first and saved a lot of headache. I should have installed everything on a seperate drive. It would have saved so many countless hours of troubleshooting and reading forums online. You know I might actually just delete everything and begin anew. Plus I would like a more organsed and easy to access file system.
It sounds scary to delete everything, but once you start over and do it well it will feel so much better and definitely worth it. Your efficiency will improve with each time too. I still completely start over from time to time (including right now actually!)
How muich HD space do you need for a decent experience? Not overkill but just the right amount of mods to make the game feel remastered and more immersive.
There's no good answer to that I'm afraid as it just varies so much. But it's usually textures that are hard on the available space so anything with improved graphics etc or retextured and improved are big ones. The Complete Guide build is around 60GB at the moment as of the latest episode

Is it safe to delete vortex folders if you are using it for other games as well? Won't it affect those games?
lovely nice work good tutorial big thank my man take care and stay safe
Thank you so much I'm very grateful to you for your kind words. Means the world! Stay safe :)
ok so let me clear it out
u also have to reinstal STEAM ? coz my steam is not on c driver but other 1 , but it is in program files!
so i have 2 delete all games on steam and delete steam and reinstal all of it again in NO program files folder?!
Worked like a charm. Cheers to you!
Happy to help!
Thank you SO MUCH for this! I have been trying to get a clean install of Skyrim for so long! It seemed impossible!
You’re very welcome! Glad I could help! :-)
amazing tutorial youre awesome dude for real. liteerally subbing just bc of this vid
Really appreciate it thank you bro!
Me and modding this game just dont get along and im literally willing to pay someone at this point to get it working for me :(
There's wabajack and vortex collections
“To create a second library for steam you’ll need a second hard drive” - is using a second hard drive a must for this guide?
Absolutely, as you will need to place steams game directory outside of windows programs files
So I have to go buy a new drive just to mod Skyrim?
I used IACave's tutorial to learn how to mod my game years ago. This looks like a great up to date replacement for that, Highly recommended.
Thank you so much. It means alot to me I am grateful!
I WAS LITERALLY JUST LOOKING FOR AN UP TO DATE MODDING CAUSE OF ALL THE PROBLEMS IM RUNNING INTO
You’re not alone! The update has caused many issues for modders. This series will cover all the changes and form the new foundation for anyone looking to start afresh
is there a way to mod with only one drive
Thanky for the help, cant wait for next videos.
Glad I could help! Next video is just a few days away! Can’t wait to share :-)
Do you also mod nolvus and mo2
This is something I'm currently looking into to see if my PC would handle it. My PC is rather outdated for something as intense as Nolvus but I won't know for sure until I try! If it works it'll be something to cover in future
Great!
Do I need to have more than one drive to do this? I only have one and an external.
New to modding on PC and MO2 and man thank you for this at the point where I have my mods and working my hardest to make sure my LO is solid as can be 😭
You’re very welcome :-) thank you so much for your kind words
@@ADHDecent No problem, also on your video when you created a new location folder for steam/skyrim did you just do a new folder or was their a specific location before setting the new folder?
Let's goooo!🎉❤🔥🔥🔥
Hey there, I recently started wanting to try modding, it's awesome that you're going to be walking through the whole process! Just curious, because I had issues with it earlier, will you be walking through how to install some other common modding addons like ENB and DynDOLOD? I've had to restart twice because for some reason I wasn't able to get my different mods to work, even whilst following someone else's mod list. Also, do you know if there are any discord communities committed to helping people with setting up Skyrim modding? Can't wait to see part 2+! Thanks for your content
I’ll be covering those further into the series :-) glad you’re enjoying it so far!
For all those starting here. Make sure the Modding folder you make is not on your desktop. It was giving me some issues.
2:19 which one are you referencing? You said Skyrim and steam. My Skyrim se is on the D drive but should I have steam on the D drive aswell. I’m at work and have to check when I get home
this tutorial is the best, it works and its organized.
I appreciate your kind words thank you! Glad you’re enjoying it!
If steam doesnt allow to install games on different path, but only allows for a different drive like the issue I had. You have to reinstall steam entirely away from the program files it normally gets installed on. For example my steam is on a C:/Games/ directory
Yep. Path location is decided upon initial installation not additional drives
Thank you for this amazing guide broo
You’re welcome! I appreciate your support! :-)
Thank you for all you do 👍🏼❤️
I appreciate you means alot. ❤️
Be well.
Thank you so much for your kind words and support! Glad you’re enjoying the videos so far! Lots planned. I’m jealous of your 1TB NVME though ;-)
my steam is on Program files (86x) is that ok? cuz if i reinstall my steam i have to uninstall all downloaded games..
As long as the game itself isn't in program files its fine
How do I add a new drive?
So for clarification I just need to download steam in another folder and not another drive?
I think so, Did you make it work?
@@Albert_Riseal no
Thank you for showing difference in Anniversary Edition
You're very welcome :)
No way lol. I just started modding and watching your vids this week
The ultimate sign! We’ve got this ;-)
@@ADHDecent lol we sure do! very thankful for your videos. Modding has been a huge struggle so far but it’d be living hell without them
That really means a lot to me thank you for your kind words :-)
What if you have some CC content, but not all of it. Will the picker still work? Last time I tried it, I got errors.
0:42 ..so if I do have the Skyrim special edition folder do I delete it?
How frequent are you posting these? I just wiped my mods last night and reinstalled SR AE to start over after CTD all day on tuesday.
Ouch. CTD is a nightmare for sure! These were planned to be released weekly at the same time and day, but due to the response I’ve received from Part 1 I’m trying to see if I can bump them up a bit to keep people going
Unreal, thanks so much, subbed.
Appreciate the support thank you :-)
why do i have to completely uninstall everything and re download steam in somewhere else JUST to mod a game when my mods were working before without having to do any of that before? i had 200 mods with skyrim together and everything setup and just because i downlaoded the stupid new update i gotta undo my whole system?
pc experience
Thank you for this guide ❤
You’re welcome! :-)
GOATED
Hello, I still see that you respond here (which is amazing work!!!) and so I thought I could ask a few questions.
I'm about to buy Skyrim SE for the very first time. Unfortunately my steam is installed in ProgramFiles, and so I guess I'm supposed to install the game on another drive. My C: drive is the one in which my windows is installed aswell as steam. I do however have a 2nd drive on which I already have a few older and smaller steam games installed. Would it work for me to just install Skyrim SE on that 2nd drive? If so, does it matter where on that drive I install the game?
LONG AWAITED
Ahhh it feels good to back! The temptation to post the whole series at once though xD
so like how do i exactly download skyrim outside of program files tho?
I’ve already watched the first 8 videos and I’m now starting my process and now I’ve run into my first snag during video #1:
When I attempt to follow the directions to create the SSE shortcut, I go into my gaming file, then steam, steamapps, and common, the only file that is in common is Steamworks Shared; nothing else.
How necessary is downgrading to a previous Skyrim version at the moment?
I can't believe I've never thought of creating a shortcut for a directory... ugghhh
Please, what is the version of your Skyrim? Mine is 1.6.640. Will it work?
Hey, just got back from holiday and wanted to return to skyrim. does this guide work for VR as well?
also, thanks for making this!
You’re welcome! I’m not sure about VR I’m afraid
Hello. I am thinking about returning to Skyrim after few years. Back then, we used to 'clean the master files'. Is it not necessary anymore on AE version? Thank you.
do you need to have the anniversary edition? or can you just stay with the special edition
The thing I need to know is which Skyrim game do I need?
Why is your guide for Special Edition when Anniversary Edition is the latest version - curious? And how does it differ?
It's a bit confusing but the only difference between Skyrim Special Edition and Skyrim Anniversary Edition now is that the Anniversary Edition has a bunch of Creation Club mods preinstalled on it which the Special Edition does not have.
What matters most when modding either of these editions is their version. The latest versions for both editions right now is 1.6.1170. Some mods might use 'AE' to refer to the latest version but both editions are fine to use.
Would these same steps work for the Non-Special Edition version of Skyrim on Steam?
Does the Skyrim version have to be the Special Edition? I have the original first version of the game back from 2011.
Should I also delete the folder in the Documents > My Games directory? It has my ini's and saved games from a previous setup.
Back them up first if you wish to return to those saves at any time. Then remove them
@@ADHDecent Appreciate the quick response. I've got a follow-up question: do your guides cover how to edit INI's from MO2 directly? Thanks!
Is it ok to install steam into Program Files (x86)?
i think itll be fine im gonna try it all my games and mods have always been there on this pc
Great guide as always m8!!
Hey Anthony! Appreciate it thank you!!
At the beginning of the video when you are deleting all of the files to reinstall everything in a new area would that mean you lose all of your saves from before you deleted Skyrim
This is really cool. Thanks for making it.
You’re welcome! :-)
Nice detailed guide overall. I followed it step by step and my doesnt look nowhere near yours... Specially at nights, cant see anything.
You'll want to configure the ENB to your own preferences using the menu shown in the episode :)
Can you please explain why do i need second drive ? I installed steam to my deskop/steam folder not on program files, is that okay ?
Yeah that’s fine :-)
@@ADHDecent thank you 🔥
Thank you so much for this video!
Does this work for GOG Skyrim?
Time for next part
It’s getting close! :D
Is C:/ Windows the same as program files?
So to mod skyrim I need a second drive?
No. Only if you have Steam inside Program Files and don’t want to reinstall Steam
