Just s couple things thst might help out with that winch. Much thicker cables will carry the current and get yourself a pulley, like that's on the end of that come along and double your cable back. It will take a lot of stress off of the winch. Plus if you set it up right, you can use it to re-direct your pulls. Great videos.
Someone needs to change their name to "Dubdoeswalkarounds". On the other side of the scale, these rescues never get old. The dedication, the preparation (or lack thereof), and the eternal enthusiast's struggle keeps us coming back for more. 👍
That makes your channel so exiting. We all have been there, we all know Murfy’s law, we all fall back on the ANALOG and mechanical tools when things go south. This is the essence of life how reality works. And you are just the nicest guy to be around.
I had a 66 with basically the same features, no middle seat, bench front, simple windows. Dark blue and white two tone. At the time I didn’t know much about it, just where to put the gas in! I was a teenager and needed a van to haul band gear! Rock on baby!
Jason you continue to be a hero at getting these bus's on your trailer and back home your grit and determination never fails to amaze me hope you get better soon thyroids can be a real pain my wife as the same issues I wish you well friend Andy Allen.
I truly appreciate your never say never attitude!!! Kudos to you for rescuing another piece of automotive history. You make me want to go buy a Beetle and relive my teenage years!!
Jason, you the man. I admire the way you keep at it and come up with new approaches to solve new problems. If nobody took a chance on new methods, you cant get anything done.
I enjoy how you east coast guys evaluate the state of things when it comes to rusty VWs. Having watched the channel for a while now, I am still in awe of what you consider worth saving and drag home. 😂 And keep the smack talk about Wicked Werks coming! We all know he enjoys it! 😂
As a former Marine from Connecticut and a VW Bus Chaser living in South Carolina, it was great to see you “adapt and overcome “ and well done. I purchased a good quality winch ad have added a double battery box on my car trailer. I only use one and keep the other as a spare. I got tired of come alongs that will bust or kink. I have a 2000 pound chain fall that I use to transfer my engines from cart to cart but it has a neutral position on the cranking arm so you can put it in “N” and pull the slack out of the chain. I hope you come to the No Dough Bus Show in Port Orange in April of 24, you will enjoy it. I have met Mustie over the years and Jason Remmick at the NH Bug show and we have a great community. I always enjoy your adventures and repairs, good freestyle. Jim
My wife also told me not to buy a VW pickup, a 71’. And now there are 3 SC’s (71, 68, 65) 3 splits (64, 65, and 66), and 2 bugs (65, and 74 ). I’m now watching the Yukon yellow very rescue. My mother bought a new 62’ with a gas heater. That was in NY state. I bought a 1959 vert in 67’ for $50 and it ran well. Where those are who knows. I’m still snooping around the Litchfield area when I come up for July, August and September. I’ll see Brent in April at NDBS in Port Orange Florida, April 5-7. Great time for all. Also parts guru Chad McGee.
WOW that was like the most exciting motion picture I've seen in decades! It makes me a nervous wreck when you do the lift up with 6x6's and 1 lift. Great video and I learned alot. Take care Jason, I always look forward to your videos.
Hope you get to feeling better. Great rescue, as always. The sketchier the loading technique, the better the feeling of success if it doesn't end in disaster.
Another heroic save, a '61 standard microbus! Save them all, no matter what. I hope you find a buyer for a good price, and that you're feeling better. Nice job with what you had to work with!
The key to consistency is being consistent! Doing a rescue, yet leaving key elements/TOOLS behind that would make a rescue a tad easier (though probably less entertaining). Know that you are doing The Lord’s work! Me getting strange looks as I laugh out loud while watching this as I workout at the local… thanks again! You and Dubwerks NEVER disappoint!
You need to rescue a service truck so you always have your tools and jacks. 🤣 Wow J, I can’t believe you were able to get that bus on the trailer. That bus fought hard. Great job! Excellent rescue. Thank you!
Hey Jason, That Thyroid thing is no joke. When mine went kaphlooey I could barely climb a step ladder. Walking to the mailbox required one or two rest periods each way. And I was trying to help my brother-in-law build a house and many days I struggled to get from one end of the foundation to the other. Had mine zapped (radioactive pill) and with meds, I feel a whole bunch better. Oh, and you are a very entertaining Rescue/Wrecker guy.
Jason, I loved that you went 1 hr 15 mins on this one! It was really a cluster F, I cant beleive you pulled it of not feeling 100%, but no surprise there. Feel better my friend, cant wait to see New Hampshire! Thanks there is none better than your chanel!
thank you for the kind words SP, too kind ...yes it had some punches thrown ...happy i didn't have to unhook and drive down to hf for a come a long ...could be snow up in NH, well see :)
Its better than the 23 window. You've done well getting it halfway onto the trailer. It gets dark early when you are living in the Arctic Circle. LOL You've done well . clap, clap, clap .
Nothing like digging out a VW to work the sickness out of you. Hope you are feeling better. Can't wait to see this bus after you clean it out. Let me know when it becomes available.
Excellent rescue! Always an interesting watch. Don't beat yourself up for not being prepared. It's not like you have done many of these. Thanks for taking us along and I look forward to watching the NH rescue.
haha! i was prepared , the 12k winch could of winched the rusty engineless bus with 4 locked drums onto the trailer all by itself if it worked :). I broke my come a long on the so23 bus rescue ....one way or another it was going on that night :). Thank you WT :))
Love the comments "you should have been more prepared"! Yeah! Sure! What are you suppose to do? Take 3 trucks, 4 trailers, 8 winches? LOL! You did a fine job "improvise, adapt, overcome". Yep, I stole that line! Make it a great one! Cheers!
HAHA ! thank you Russell ...the only thing i didn't have that i usually do is a come a long . I broke mine on that SO23 bus rescue and i have not replaced it. You don't need much when you have a 12k winch hooked to a rusty , engineless VW Bus with the rear wheels free ....oh , a working winch :))
I was shouting “It’s a ‘63” since the beginning of your video. Last year for the small rear window, it’s 63 and later doglegs, icepicks. “This one’s a little sketchy” is right. LOL Hope you’re feeling better soon, Jay. Glad Robby finished his donut and gave you a hand… filming! 😂
a friend texted me while watching and asked how many people were flaming me in the comments for calling it a 65 haha....I never really paid much attention to it other than is was post 61...I didn't know so thank you for the bus education . I hope he didn't get any frosting on my broken sheety go pros ! :)
I rescued a 63 Campmobile about 4 years ago. Small hatch, fried eggs and ice pics like this one. The interior survived better than expected. Love mouse grey, your bus looks pretty savable!!! That passenger mirror is trick lol. Awesome, rescue Jason glad you are rock'en this old school. I liked how you hammered on the brake shoes through the lug holes. But have messed up a few drums hammering on the outer brake service. Had flat spots instead of round drum surface. Since I've managed avoided the otter ridge so I can reuse the drum without difficulties!!
It might be easy for you to locate VWs down there but it sure is a big job retrieving them. Love how you never give up and I guess that is what brings us.Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and family. From NB Canada
,,,,shovel,check==battery,check==winch control,check==tire pump,check===enough time,,,not so much........😮......get it dude!!!..tnx for these fun recovery vids,,pat&family,land o'lakes,wi..(my latest rescue=1961 mercury comet.)
When you use a tapered shaft drum puller as you tighten the tool hit the end of the tool shaft with a brass mallet. Each time you hit it you will notice the tool turns easier. Works better than hitting the sides of the drum. And by hitting the tool your creating force on the axle to pop the drum. Add grease afterwards to the shaft before putting the drum back.
i love the struggle many times when i was young. maybe just maybe bring some spares with air to make your life easier but always a great watch. happy holidays
OMG you two! 😂 That was so sketchy! A nail biter Jason. But, another VW rescued, you never give up. Love you and Dubwerks working together, lol! Hope you are feeling better soon. Merry Christmas Jason and family! 🎄🎅🏼
Love your channel. Can relate to your thyroid pain, been dealing with severe highs and lows 30 years. Hopefully it’s not Hashi as that can really be tough.
wasn't too bad , nothing like the SO23 in NH rescue that took 4 trips :)..... haha, he's there for support and filming ...people say the same thing about me when i'm in a Mustie1 vid...just waiting on a command :)
Well done Jason, that was a huge effort, especially when you’re not feeling so well. I hope the sale pays you well for that one, it’s a bus not too far gone for rescuing. Does Robbie ever break a nail, btw ? 🙄
You got me on Google Earth looking, this guy had a stash of VW's on Post Road at the top of the hill on the right if you're traveling from the town center. This was 35 years ago, lots changed. Couldn't see if they're still there. I also remember an old wrecked green 50's bus.
I think that Yankees cap is causing mental anguish. P.S. I'm fighting my way through this marathon session (quite entertaining!) and your stacked up blocking reminds me of pipe staging I have used that when the blocking on one leg exceeds three pieces, we refer to it as "Cat In The Hat" blocking. You, sir, qualify as a master of the technique~!
thank you, I'm only keeping 3 Buses... single cab , double cab and a wild card Bus , not sure of the 3rd yet. I'll have to wait and see when it comes out the ground :)
First time I've seen a trailer with side loading ramps. I just can't see that being a benefit. Love your electric saw I'm going to look for one. Gas saws never want to start when you need them.
Hey Jason, hats off to you with this one ,a major mission to say the least! I also have a 63/64 crossover patina Mouse Gray bus that I’ve recently picked up . Unfortunately it was was missing the rear bumper .Ive managed to get a rear bumper but I’m still missing the rear over riders and towel rails . If you have any for sale or know of any I’d be interested. I’m in the uk but depending on price it still might be worth a shot Cheers ja 🤙
what! If i continued to fail i would of : A) gave in, unhooked trailer and drove down to HF to give them more $ for a come a long ( mine broke on a rescue ) ....I wouldn't buy another winch there .
I hope you are feeling better. I truly like watching to see what you find and I am amazed at all the VWs that you find for sure. BUT, You would think after all the recoveries you’ve done you would have it together by now. You work way too hard to get these loaded and home, but maybe that’s what most people want to see.
Massive effort, well done for sticking at it. Lesser men would have gone home. Have you ever unhitched the trailer and used the tow vehicle to pull things up onto the trailer? Just a thought
Maybe to avoid winching tons of dirt and smooth over stumps - a couple thick sheets of plywood laid under the van. I often use tarps, plywood, carpet, and cardboard as skids
Another question: why don’t you put Dubwerks to work?! Make that kid earn his keep, Jason!! Next time bring a lawn chair, some cold ones, and direct Dubwerks on what to do!
Jason I'm still trying to figure out why you didn't just cut that dam stump off level with terafirma? Lol. Man you worked your ass off for that one lol.
Now that right there is the definition of determination / insanity! I had to look away when that thing started to tilt sideways. Great job getting it loaded up! Oh boy, NH - PG/SG??
Honestly the maddest but best VW rescue channel on YT. Absolutely brilliant and nerve wracking at the same time. Hope you feel better soon Jason.
thank you C&C, I appreciate that !
you could become the number one bus restorer: save EVERYTHING, no matter how degraded
The accumulation of problems and the gradual reduction in available tools made the rescue progressively more entertaining. Well done!
thank you, it's home and off. the trailer
You Need to Get a Battery & Winch Sponsor !! But that would kill the struggle of the rescues !
Just s couple things thst might help out with that winch. Much thicker cables will carry the current and get yourself a pulley, like that's on the end of that come along and double your cable back. It will take a lot of stress off of the winch. Plus if you set it up right, you can use it to re-direct your pulls. Great videos.
You must be the Houdini of VW rescuers!
Every time you get a VW bug or bus on your trailer a am completely amazed! 😅
You are CRAZY!!!!!!!!! Fun to watch BOTH of you!!!!!!! 😃
Someone needs to change their name to "Dubdoeswalkarounds".
On the other side of the scale, these rescues never get old. The dedication, the preparation (or lack thereof), and the eternal enthusiast's struggle keeps us coming back for more. 👍
Great adventure...Great show...Thank you Jason for your cast of characters...a lot of fun...Brad

hi Andy, thank you, I really appreciate the kind words....yes it's been a few years too until i finally went to see a DR for blood work.
well that's good I will be praying for a good outcome for you Jason best Andy@@5150mxVW
I truly appreciate your never say never attitude!!! Kudos to you for rescuing another piece of automotive history. You make me want to go buy a Beetle and relive my teenage years!!
You’re the best Jason. The best channel hands down my friend
God Bless
you are too kind Mark, thank you , I appreciate it

Epic Jason, but at least you got it in the end!
Get well soon mate🏴🇬🇧
thank you , well i welded my broken come a long after this one and bought a new one as well :)

Another rescue, good job. Wishing you good health as well. Take care 👍
thank you Terrence , you as well
thank you TC7676!
Three come alongs !!! Amazing 👏
hi Richard, 3 broken HF winches
Jason, never let it be said you don’t have intestinal fortitude! Thanks for another amazing rescue👍
thank you Mike, I appreciate that
thank you Mike !!!
Your energy is amazing. I’m tired watching good job
not much energy that day but not getting it on the trailer wasn't happening
The key to consistency is being consistent! Doing a rescue, yet leaving key elements/TOOLS behind that would make a rescue a tad easier (though probably less entertaining). Know that you are doing The Lord’s work! Me getting strange looks as I laugh out loud while watching this as I workout at the local… thanks again! You and Dubwerks NEVER disappoint!

thank you Tom!
Hard work pays and not to many people know what hard work it these days. I salute you and a good job done. Much ❤ from U🇬🇧 .
thank you LF9359...true story
Stuff failing, running out of daylight that is determination for you. I do hope you feel better soon Jason. 🙏👍👍
thank you Stephen , i appreciate it
You need to rescue a service truck so you always have your tools and jacks. 🤣 Wow J, I can’t believe you were able to get that bus on the trailer. That bus fought hard. Great job! Excellent rescue. Thank you!
Bro! I'm feeling your pain watching you move all that stuff.
that was gravy , loading tie downs and the misc tools killed me earlier when i had zero energy :)
Thought you were gonna roll it for a minute!
Great job on the rescue. Hope you feel better soon. Glad to your helper show up and help so much. Maybe he gets to sit on Santas lap.
thank you , he wasn't there to dig in :), he was on his way to a family commitment

Wow!! This was painful. I so wished I was close enough to help out. I hope you’re feeling well my friend. I got concerned how you sounded in the end 🙁
Where there’s a will, there’s a way 🤙😳👍 That made the Bus in the swamp look easy 🙃
Your tenacity paid off in the end as usual. Guess your buddy didn't want to get his hands dirty and help you dig that out!
Its better than the 23 window. You've done well getting it halfway onto the trailer. It gets dark early when you are living in the Arctic Circle. LOL You've done well . clap, clap, clap .

much appreciated Dwight, I didn't have much in the tank that day

thank you JP, yes haha :)
" Never Give Up, Never Surrender " !!!
The bus whisperer. Great video as always Jason. Cheers.
i did edit a few non whispers out when the bus fell on my only jack haha :)
thank you Chris , i appreciate it

Man, that was painful to just to watch, You totally had my admiration.
Damn, Dubworks did you nasty on that one… To think you did him a favor on the last bus you found for him ;-)
haha, he had a prior family commitment ....and he found this honey hole so i gotta give him a pass :)....and he did show
That was a nail biter but better than anything streaming on my tv tonite
Thanks for the episode
Take it easy
thank you Russell , i appreciate that
That rescue was totally amazing how you never give up and are so inventive with your solutions
Love it 🙂🇦🇺

OMG you two! 😂 That was so sketchy! A nail biter Jason. But, another VW rescued, you never give up.
Love you and Dubwerks working together, lol! Hope you are feeling better soon.
Merry Christmas Jason and family! 🎄🎅🏼
thank you Deborah ! Merry Christmas to you and yours as well.
Dude, you are a stud.
Love your channel. Can relate to your thyroid pain, been dealing with severe highs and lows 30 years. Hopefully it’s not Hashi as that can really be tough.
you need a medal . i would of left my trailer came back in the morning
omg, that was brutal to watch. Glad you got it loaded, finally, and thanks for all the help Dubwerks.. lol...
wasn't too bad , nothing like the SO23 in NH rescue that took 4 trips :)..... haha, he's there for support and filming ...people say the same thing about me when i'm in a Mustie1 vid...just waiting on a command :)
PATIENCE AND YOU DID IT RESPECT HOPE YOU GET WELL SOON OLD SCHOOL IS THE WAY
Well done Jason, that was a huge effort, especially when you’re not feeling so well. I hope the sale pays you well for that one, it’s a bus not too far gone for rescuing. Does Robbie ever break a nail, btw ? 🙄
At least one a day...
Isn't it amazing what dogged perseverance can do?!
Another amazing rescue !!! They are the best !

haha, things are going to be different this year !
Yes, Dodgers will beat everyone!@@5150mxVW
haha, i'm just glad he didn't sign with Toronto
Jay - another great discovery - killer original color. I'd say keeper but kinda feel you got enough projects.
thank you, I'm only keeping 3 Buses... single cab , double cab and a wild card Bus , not sure of the 3rd yet. I'll have to wait and see when it comes out the ground :)
Get better my friend!!!!!
thank you, feeling good ...have to get to NH Buses :)
First time I've seen a trailer with side loading ramps. I just can't see that being a benefit. Love your electric saw I'm going to look for one. Gas saws never want to start when you need them.
The red Porsche is a funny thing for CT in Florida!!
Hey Jason, hats off to you with this one ,a major mission to say the least! I also have a 63/64 crossover patina Mouse Gray bus that I’ve recently picked up . Good job man, hope you get to feeling better soon
thank you Nate
Im having fun love your vids and now a long one Too good happy days
thank you FnS
I would have bet against you. Silly me. You earned this one.
Just a thought
thank you Al .... No, i think even if you tried to chalk the trailer wheels that would get ALL kinds of whacked and turn into a total sheet show
A well earned prize, you learn how to do things by doing it wrong a few times! , it looks well saveable tho.
So frustrating to watch but I can’t look away
Great video as usual! 👍😀
Thank you ! I appreciate it LC
Terrific save. I'd have given up hours before, but you got it! Congrats. Will HF swap out that winch under warranty?
That rescue not easy at all, but you did again. Amazing
thank you JcF
Maybe to avoid winching tons of dirt and smooth over stumps - a couple thick sheets of plywood laid under the van. I often use tarps, plywood, carpet, and cardboard as skids
Another question: why don’t you put Dubwerks to work?! Make that kid earn his keep, Jason!! Next time bring a lawn chair, some cold ones, and direct Dubwerks on what to do!
