Thank you for this upload. You clearly were outside of your comfort zone, but you pushed through and succeeded. Keep up the good work! We look forward to more.
Tip if you wanna know how much a ink/dye/paint colors a resin pour (because it easy to add too much): fill a cup (or multiple) with the same amount of water as the resin pour and add the ink/dye/paint to get the right color. Repeat until your happy and add that amount of ink/dye/paint to the resin pour.
Found your channel through a Dana Howl recommendation... Loving everything! Your voice is pleasant to listen to, and your videos are really informative!
The Splash Gel looks very much like the Gloss Gel Medium from Liquitex. I have used it to make icicles. Pretty sure it's the same thing or very close to the same thing. I like what GSW has to offer, but if yo want to save a little bit of money, I would buy the Liquitex stuff instead.
Yeah, a lot of GSW products are "copies" of already existing products. I guess the handy thing being that I can get it in the game store. But definitely, if one is working on a larger piece or use the stuff on a regular basis, liquitex is the way to go.
"It's just really stupid to burn down your house" - you haven't seen my insurance policy 😏😏. Awesome video as always! I've been thinking about trying some UV resin and I think you've sold me on it here. Also, the way you combined the different colours and stuff was very cool. Thanks!
😂 Thanks, uv resin is great, for smaller stuff and well the fact that you can cure it so fast. I just got some “regular” resin for a larger build. Just not sure what that will be yet :) Have a great weekend!
First, dig your calm chill voice. Second! Any idea if the splash effect stuff is the same as water fx that woodland sceneics make? they look wildly similar.
Tip for resin bubbles. Heat makes the bubbles come up and pop. I usually use one of those long tip lighters to do it. You just skim the surface back and forth quickly with the flame. Obviously do this as it cures and is still liquid.
Right! Thanks for that. I have tried on a more recent build with the heat... but using a regular lighter is not recommended if one wants to keep ones fingers intact...
Another quick hint for clearing off bubbles from the surface of UV resin.. hit it with a spritz of Isopropyl alcohol. Makes the bubbles just vanish instantly.
16:25 keep in mind that if you use layers instead of a single pour and have it so you can look from the side, you will see the different layers even after polishing. In the use case you showed in this video, that is not a issue.
@@52Miniatures Ah, yes, forgot that you already came across this one yourself. That's what I get for watching your video's out of order ;) I guess it cold be useful for a viewer reading the comments.
@@52Miniatures Great vid, loving the technicalities of it all. I’ve only just got back into “painting”. I’ve the second edition warhammer space wolves which I’m currently removing the paint from, yeah pretty much 30 years ago I last picked up a brush. Any road, appreciate your knowledge, vids and your time. P.s I am hopelessly bad at painting but I do have motivation. P.p.s So obviously I went out and bought Archon of Sigmar, I am in the sh*t.
It sucks when 'words, don't come easy' 🎶 Damn 80s songs... I guess there's two concepts: self leveling (i.e. Vallejo's primmers) which means once applied itself gets to have the same thickness due to gravity. Then there's memory. Memory is when you bend a piece of plastic and it tries to get back to its original shape. In example, green stuff have lots of memory but milliput doesn't. Also, as you mentioned it may be just shrinking. Concerning dyes, inks are perfectly fine most of the time, but resins are all about chemical reactions. Resin dye agents should be safe in ALL situations while with inks, the water in their formula, or any solvent might oddly interact with resin making it not cure properly, to foam, etc. I always use inks BUT I've seen horrible stuff happen at the art school. If you are gluing a waterfall to a pond you better not risk having chlorosis (CA glue fogging) you can use a drop of UV resin as glue: hold the piece in place with tweezers, cure the blob of resin and voilà. Using a lighter over uncured resin surface may heat it up along bubbles go to the surface and pop. Again, be careful. Fire and resin fumes might not go well together. Speaking of lighters, it's safer to shape plastics using a candle in a fixed position and move the plastic. Loved the video, specially the waterfall part. That reverse use is a fantastic idea. Have a nice weekend.
Hello Javier 👋 The waterfall thing was a fun discovery! Now I need to make something more propper than the cardboard diorama. I’ve seen the lighter / blowtorch trick over resin, finally a reason to get a blowtorch in my life - and maybe I can get some creme brûlée’s going. I’m at a point where I’ve got so many ideas for painting and building... I really wish someone would just pay me a heap of money to make videos. There is not enough hours in the week. Painted my first “40k” mini a few days back... sort of... for next weeks video. It was a lot of fun. Anyway, thanks Javier and hope you have a good weekend.
Tip: Use a little piece of clear fishing line. Attach it your water pipe (or whatever) and then put the splash gel on that.
Smart! Thanks :)
That's ingenious!
This is very, very interesting. I’m anxious to try it when my supplies arrive.
Good luck!
I love your delivery style, you sound perpetually confused and it's very funny.
My life is kind of a constant state of perpetual confusion.. so that sounds correct :)
Finally a use for the liquitex gloss medium I bought before realizing what gloss really meant (french viewer here)
My dentists tells me I need to gloss more.

Thanks! I know I could be more "efficient" and just show the "how to".. but I like to talk about the "why". It feels equally important to me.
Thanks for a great job.

Did the waterfall that was cloudy ever clear up?
You know I think I've thrown it by now. But not for the month or so it was sitting in my cupboard.
@@52Miniatures There is a change it will clear up after multiple months, but not worth the wait compared to doing multiple layers.
As a fellow swedish person, what was the brand for the ish mod podge you used?
Panduro, Decoupage Varnish-Glue Glossy
