Mickey Thomas, the lead singer, is criminally underrated. No he isn't a one hit wonder. Jane by Jefferson Starship features his vocals. Elvin Bishop played the guitar and wrote this song. Mickey was a backup singer for Elvin, and Elvin was smart enough to let him sing this song. They were both Gospel musicians together before they went mainstream. That's why Mickey is so good with the blues / Gospel sound in his voice. Mickey is one of the greatest vocalists of all time in my humble opinion. Definitely one of the greatest in rock and roll.

That voice and face was Mr Mickie Thomas. Thank goodness we have had many years of that voice! Elvin Bishop was the guitar player. Mickie is still with us and is "that voice" in Jefferson Starship and Starship. He still has that voice. Yes, I am a big fan of his. Always have been.
Mickey Thomas was one of the best voices of this generation. He went on to singing with Jefferson Starship. You should. Heck out the song “Jane”.
Actually its the great Mickey Thomas still performing at age 73. Elvin Bishop is the magnificent guitarist. Mickey eventually ended at Jefferson Starship. Many very good songs there. He is one of thr greatest singers ever i feel hes somewhat underated.

I don't think you get the song. He's saying that he was total c and then found that special girl with whom he fell in love .

The live version on the Midnight Special is way better, sound quality, his voice, instruments, everything. It sounds 100 times better.

Don't know why the great voice is of Mickey Thomas who went to Jefferson Starship later. Fantastic voice! Elvin played the guitar. Well whoever sung it was a great song. Dug it back in the day still do
Crazy how this song lead to murder. He wrote this song based on an affair he had with another woman. The daughter, her mother (Elvin’s lover), and 2 others were murdered as someone was trying to extort them.
