In this episode of In the Kitchen with Matt, I will show you how to make chocolate chip cookies. Chocolate chip cookies are my favorite cookies to make and eat and this recipe gives you a nice soft chewy chocolate chip cookie that is sure to impress your friends and family. Let's get baking!

Ingredients:
2 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour (310g)
1 cup of unsalted softened butter (225 g)
1 cup of packed brown sugar (200 g)
1/2 cup of white granulated sugar (100 g)
2 large eggs
2 tsp. of vanilla extract (10ml)
1/2 tsp. of salt (2.5 g)
1 tsp. of baking soda (5 g)
1 package semi-sweet chocolate chips or milk chocolate (about 2 cups or 350g)
***Note I just used a metric conversion for these, double check your measurements if you use metric. :)

Hello and welcome back to In the Kitchen with Matt, I am your host Matt Taylor. Today I am going to show you how to make Chocolate Chip Cookies, mmm yummy, these chocolate chip cookies are soft, chewy, super yummy, really easy to make, chocolate chip cookies are my favorite cookie to make and eat. What is your favorite cookie? Drop a comment down below and let me know. Let’s get started. First preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Then we start with 1 cup of softened butter, 1 half cup of white granulated sugar, 1 cup of packed brown sugar, okay now using a hand mixer or stand mixer, let’s cream this all together, once it is creamed together let’s go ahead and scrape down the sides, at this point we are going to add our eggs, one at a time, first large egg, now let’s add two teaspoons of vanilla extract, now we take 2 and a half cups of all purpose flour, we will add one tsp. of baking soda, on half tsp. of salt. Then we will go ahead and use a whisk or you can sift it together, and we will mix it all together. All right now let’s take our flour and we are going to just add about a third of it at a time, mix, alright add some more flour, now we want to scrape the sides as needed, add more flour, and then before I add the rest of the flour, at this step I am going to add 2 cups of chocolate chips, these are semi-sweet, you can you use milk chocolate as well, this equals about one package here in the States, I am going to mix those in. Okay, and then let’s add the rest of our flour, then one last scraping of the sides. Alright our cookie dough is done, and now what we are going to do is we need to separate our beaters and now time to clean off those beaters, and then you can just use your spatula, come in here and push them out. Alright once our cookie dough is done, it is time to form our cookies, I am using a cookie sheet with an Artisan Mat on top, this is a Silicone baking mat, really awesome, really love these silicon baking mats, they clean really easy, they last a really long time, they help to keep the cookies from getting burnt on the bottom, and uh, if you want to pick a couple of these up, I will put a link down below where you can get them, really awesome, I highly recommend them especially for cookies. So what we do is we take a spoon or ice cream scoop and we take some cookie dough, it’s about 2 tablespoons worth, and go ahead and drop it on there, and you can form it a little bit, with your hand if you want, just like that, whatever side you want to make, big ones, little ones, whatever you want to make, about an inch and a half apart. All right and then you bake these in the oven at 350 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes, depending on the size of the cookie...

I'm thinking of making these cookies I'm just wondering will it work if I use a substitute for butter, and also if I do not use vanilla extract?
@@Im-A-stay-and-moa It won't work really well without using actual real butter, but you can substitute it with margarine or shortening. You can leave the vanilla out but it will affect the flavor.
I made these.. they are delicious and soft . My only problem is no matter how small I make it , the cookies are not flat like yours ( even scooping 2 tbsp) I followed the recipe exact. I only added baking powder 1tsp and 1/2 baking soda. (Maybe that is the issue?)
@@shirleencharles3845 That is the issue, don't add any baking powder. Just the baking soda like I use in the recipe. :)

Hi Lea! Yes I still try and reply to everyone. :)
i made these cookies yesterday and they taste so good. this is my favorite recipe now. I didn’t have unsalted butter so i just used salted butter and then skipped the step with the salt and it turned out fine. when you’re mixing in the flour with the sugar mixture, try to fold it underneath with a spatula before turning on the mixer so it doesnt fly everywhere. last tip is DO NOT OVERBAKE THESE. the color isn’t super brown and thats ok because its a chewy cookie bake it for 8-10 minutes and add a minute or two if needed. the way to tell if a cookie is done is to touch the sides and if it leaves a noticable dent then its not done. smalllll cracks at the top mean to pull it out of the oven aswell. the cookie will still harden as it cools off so pull it out of the oven when its still somewhat soft. goodluck!

I made the mistake of adding salt with salted butter..cooked then for almost 20 minutes..all bad im going to try again..i forgot to add the brown sugar on top of it

@@meerajamali3591 mmm it is possible you over mixed the cookie dough this time. Maybe you packed in the flour a bit to much into the measuring cups? or did you weigh the ingredients? Did you do anything different with your butter?

I discovered your channel a few weeks ago because I was bored in quarantine and wanted to make cinnamon rolls. I’ve instantly become a fan and every recipe fails to disappoint. I’m a total beginner with no baking experience whatsoever and I love how you make it so easy. I used flax egg instead of egg and still turned out great. Maybe it’s just my oven but it took me closer to 15 minutes. Keep up the good work!
Thank you! Such a nice compliment. Yes oven temps can vary on the oven, a lot of times, especially if it is an older oven, the temp the dial is set to, isn't actually the temp it is getting. :) :)

I discovered this recipe yesterday. Made them early this AM. I left my butter out too long. They spreaded and turned into a rectangle. I placed them in the refrigerator and allowed them to cool for about 7 hours. While my oven was preheating I took my batter out and removed the plastic wrap..This batch kept its shape and were yummy. I lowered my temp on oven to 325 degrees because my baking sheet was dark. I cooked them for 11 minutes. Tha is now my go to recipe. Making more next week and adding pecans. Thanks for sharing.

Just made these! They were just fine on a non stick baking pan and we used a fork/wisk because we didn't have a hand mixer. Me and my sis loved them! We baked them a lil longer about 14mins and they came out peerrrrrffeeeeecccct! Chewy, gooey and slightly crisp.

omg these cookies were PHENOMENAL! they were super gooey and soft, but the only downside i had was that one whole tray of cookies had their bottoms absolutely burnt, like you couldn't even see the brown anymore lol. that was my fault though, because i used foil to substitute for the silicone, but either way, these turned out AMAZING

Sugakookie it's actually the raw flour in dough that will harm you, not the eggs.

Hey Matt, I've made this cookie recipe a couple of times now and they turned out great every time. The problem is I forgot to leave my butter out to soften it so I microwaved and melted it instead. I put the cookie dough in the fridge to bake it tomorrow. Will it turn out different?
Hello Kyra! It may turn out a little different but not too much I don't think. I have refrigerator my leftover cookie dough for a few days. I have also formed all the cookies out of dough and instead of baking them right then, put them in a bag in the freezer which works nicely too. You should be fine. :) let me know how they turn out this time! :)

Second time making this just one week apart. My family loves this, I thought it was a little too sweet but my husband says "thats because you're not used at eating cookies, these are perfect and even better than the one I normally eat" I'm or was a health conscious gal.
Awesome! I am glad you keep making it. You husband is a smart man! lol :) :) If you do want to tone down the sweetness, you can half the filling, and spread it thinner. :) Also you can use like half as much glaze, or maybe do a less sweet cream cheese frosting instead.
