Speakers: Tim Ferriss and Marcela Ot'alora G.
One of the world’s most popular podcasters, Tim Ferriss, covers the ins and outs of what it takes to become a psychedelic therapist with Marcela Ot'alora G., MAPS’ therapist trainer and Lead Principal Investigator for MDMA studies in Boulder, Colorado.
Tim Ferriss has been called “a cross between Jack Welch and a Buddhist monk” by The New York Times. He is one of Fast Company’s “Most Innovative Business People” and an early-stage tech investor/advisor in Uber, Facebook, Twitter, Shopify, Duolingo, Alibaba, and 50+ other companies. He is also the author of five #1 New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestsellers, including "The 4-Hour Workweek." The Observer and other media have named him “the Oprah of audio” due to the influence of his podcast, The Tim Ferriss Show, which has exceeded 400 million downloads. His latest book is "Tribe of Mentors: Short Life Advice from the Best in the World."
Marcela Ot’alora G. was born and raised in Colombia, S.A. and now lives in Boulder, Colorado. She has an M.A. in Transpersonal Psychology from Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado, and an M.F.A. in Fine Arts from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Marcela is a psychotherapist and an installation artist working in Boulder, Colorado. Her interest and focus on trauma has led her to understand the healing process as an intimate re-connection with one’s essence through love, integrity, acceptance, and honoring of the human spirit. In addition to working with trauma and PTSD, she has dedicated her professional life to teaching and research. She uses art as a vehicle for deepening the relationship to self, other, and the natural world. Marcela worked as a co-therapist in MAPS’ first government-approved MDMA-assisted psychotherapy study in Madrid, Spain, served as the Principal Investigator for MAPS’ Phase II MDMA-assisted psychotherapy study in Boulder, Colorado, and currently in the MDMA Healthy Volunteer study and Phase 3 site in Boulder, Colorado. Additionally, she is a trainer and supervisor for therapists working on MAPS studies for MDMA-assisted psychotherapy.

Was kind of disappointed with the talk. I didn't realy understand from it how to actually become a psy therapist. Is there any need for certain degree? Md? Psychology? I would like to have more practical steeps

avivpeleg Im currently in college aiming to get my AA in psychology. I changed my major recently from Theatre to Psychology because I feel like that’s the field that I resonate most and is most likely the field of study that goes well with Psychedelic Therapy. Here’s my plan so far: 1) Go to school and get my MD in psychology (biggest step if you haven’t done so already) 2) In California I’m supposed to complete 1000 hours of work in order to receive my license (Requirements vary in different states) 3) After I received my license I will go to my choice of program where they offer a “Psychedelic Certificate” in this case CIIS is where I’m going. (MAPS website suggests some of the programs that it works with, pick one that works for you) 4) After you have completed the certificate you may want to specialize in a certain substance such as the upcoming MDMA Therapy. Personally I would like to train in everything I can. NOTE: Experience is just as crucial as education and if possible you should practice safely with other people. Continue to do your research and assure safety to the client. Obviously you know to be careful about the law and the risks of this. •These are my ideas based on the research I have done. Continue to do your part in research and hopefully there will be more concrete information as this progresses. Be safe and good luck on your journey :)
