I recommend you do it with friends that have. I enjoy it by walking in woods or walk on the beach in safe calm setting. Sitting around a campfire with friends is also very enjoyable for me. I do not recommend the use of alcoholic beverages with psilocybin. Please drink water. I find the experience very grounding. Funny how something from the ground can be so grounding. 😊

In what way those people "actually have" those qualities?

@@moondog8191 He does seem to be a thoughtful person and I am sure he writes interesting books. I just thought it was strange that at 13:00 he uses the term dependency in a broadly negative fashion but then goes on to describe all sorts of dependencies in positive terms. microdosing, antidepressants, Yoga, journaling, etc. It would seem to me that we are not talking about the problem of dependencies. If something can be good or bad than it is as a group neutral. I am not trying to be a "gotcha" critic. The way he used the term at 13:00 just really seemed to be loaded with a lot of negative and accusational overtones. Then he goes on to describe many other dependencies as broadly positive. My only option to clear off 2 decades of Methadone with Psychedelics, now, is to facilitate it alone or if able(available) someone whos willing to risk some vulnerability in contacting me and starting a conversation. Thats often far more than people are willing to sacrifice. Weak. Im weak as well, yet recognizing it accepting it and progressing past it is where Im heading. Psilocybin or Ibogaine will be the tools I likely use. The second being more difficult to obtain.
Psilocybin should be enough man and as you suggested more accessible. Give it enough time and it can do amazing things. I've been using it on and off, solo, for 15 years. I managed to get clear of 8 years of alcohol addiction, 12 years smoking cigarettes and sporadic abuse of opiates. It's bloody challenging work and I had many brutal trips, unfortunately *it's more risky doing it alone so extra attention needs to be paid to set/setting, dose* etc. I got cocky a few times and got too ambitious with the dose and got my fucking ass kicked, the type of experience that rocks you to the core of who you think you are. I'm open to chat about it further if need be.
Carl Truly appreciate your support, honestly, Im terrified of stopping the Methadone as ive been on it for so dam long! its a horrible withdrawal, especially after 20 years of taking it, often after this long one can anticipate 4-6 months of grueling hell, pain, insomnia, kicking twitching legs syndrome, hot and cold sweats..and no energy. I will try. Thanks for the support
@@BushyHairedStranger Yeah for sure it will be rough mate. I had post addiction withdrawal symptoms (PAWS) for about 4 months after I stopped binge drinking. Probably not as savage as the opiate withdrawal, but it takes a lot of perseverance to get through that phase. All the best.

Not having had a psy-ex in decades, I think the meaning of life is to produce progressing life (have and teach your own offspring). What is the progression of natural selection that does not destroy natural selection, yet alleviates suffering? We need to progress to answer that question. Using reason and evidence is the only way to progress, that will not destory thought. Reconfiguring sociey to a more emotional system is not progress. It is the most dangerous anti-progress movement descised as progress in the all history. We go to war over emotios. It is gaining traction today.

Gabor is good. Except when he is childishly and ideologically attacking Jordan Peterson, but he is human, of course. Would love to see those two talk, particularly about the etiology of suffering as related to addiction, because very distinct ontologies are present in their work regarding these issues, with Peterson presenting a Stoic view that actually lines up with much of what is folkloric in the 12 step programs (though nothing in those programs is ideologically uniform because of the intentionally disorganized nature of these "entities") and Mate dovetailing with a lot of the post-60's humanist maternalistic nurture-based ideologies that are accepted almost blindly by the mainstream liberal secular hoi polloi.
Yep Mate and Peterson are opposed to eachother because of their perspectives on trauma. Gabor overly emphasizes trauma and Peterson almost completely ignores trauma. I agree with both of them.
Both have interesting experiences and ideas to explore. Seeing both in some staged contest?? That serves a good payday for them both though outside this whats it in service to? Their relationships with or without one another have use on their own id sought out in their works. I don’t know, this idea of a contest of the minds.. the last discourse between Jordan and another seemed banal and ridiculous.

Best channel on youtube imo.
Thank you!
I agree with what Dr. Mate says whole heartedly I have used psilocybin hundreds of times in my life with no adverse effects. If you haven’t ever used it and would like to. 😊
Gabor presents an easy balance between the cognitive mind and the mystical esoteric experience. Psychology, biology, mysticism...these factors CAN work together! Thanks for arranging these insightful interviews!!

"Addiction is all about running away" That's why I believe psychedelics is the way to force you to encounter what you're running away from and find healing.
You're absolutely bang on the money.
Oh boy, I’m not running, I’m freakin sprinting :(
Very interesting. I've used never psychedelics. For me revelations came through extraordinary dreams I had for a period of time, including lucid dreams, showing that we are much more than what this little life in this little body seems to be about. I'm still processing this stuff...
My dad was Los Angeles Sheriff Detective and I have a paper that was written on the "LSD DISCOVERY AN ACCIDENT" IT DOES not say who the Author is. But Peter J. Pitches who was Sheriff then. Los Angeles County Sheriff's Dept. 1966. The title letter does state it was compiled and prepared by LASD. March 1966.The cover letter states, "A new and startlingly menacing stigma for mankind is LSD. Whispering tales and shouting headlines have dramatized the effects of LSD, a mystery drug so potent that a single pound of the preparation could turn every person in Los Angeles County into a psychotic. " It appears I only have up to page four, but there rest may be in boxes. Anywho, I'm just commenting. How do you even find a therapist, like in San Diego, that is doing this? Thx. Been listening you Gabor Mate'. I'm an adoptee who's had devastating adoption reunions. And I do want to get back into therapy at some point. Till then I'm writing a book on my own personal progress with Self Discovery. Your studies have helped me a lot. Thxxx
At 28:37 Gabor Mate says: "When I ask people what does the addiction give you and they'll say comfort, peace of mind, connection with others, sense of control, power - well those are the genuine qualities that people not only want but actually have, but because of the false personality we lost contact with them." In what way those people "actually have" those qualities?
He’s saying underneath your false persona we all have those qualities within us.
Most of my repressed memories resurfaced sitting on meditation cushions. Our Mother & step father were absolute malevolent malicious dragons though. They really got a charge/aroused out of humiliation & punishment. The more I process these resurfaced repressed/ suppressed memories and experiences, the more my anxiety diminishes. #GaborMate has helped so much.

15:00 is being dependent on yoga ok? He sounded pretty down on dependency earlier.
As with a dependency on food, it depends on your attitude.
Brian Bob I’m entirely dependent on oxygen. Not all dependencies are destructive
@@CHN-yh3uv Ya, that is my point. We are dependent beings.
@@LeeGee I agree, we are dependent beings. Why speak of them disparagingly?
It just seemed strange.
@@BushyHairedStranger
Yeah for sure it will be rough mate. I had post addiction withdrawal symptoms (PAWS) for about 4 months after I stopped binge drinking. Probably not as savage as the opiate withdrawal, but it takes a lot of perseverance to get through that phase. All the best.
how are you now? You can Microdose iboga root and still get results. I know of some ppl who have successfully overcame alcohol and heroine addiction with just the microdoses
@@BushyHairedStranger how are you now during lockdown?
The reason psilocybin treats depression is because it suppresses the Default Mode Network, which is responsible for habitual rumination.
How can we quieten it down otherwise?

@@messiah_genes1117 In acute illness or the beginning stages of treatment medicinal substances and psychotherapeutic intervention is key. Gabor Mate speaks to healthy social connections as important. I really admire and like this doctor so much, and have read his books! However, I will echo what some others on her have posted: I don't think it is accurate that people were "jumping off of buildings" when using LSD; I think this was PCP (angel dust).
A friend of a friend jumped off a bridge while tripping on LSD. And many ppl ended up in a psych ward using these very dangerous and toxic drugs. He should NOT promote psychedelics! Angel Dust, or whatever, it's all bad.

'Life is its own meaning' is a facinating answer the the meaning of life question. It's very similar to 'life is universe/eturnity observing itself'. I dont know who coined that phrase.
Ahh 'progress', the fondest illusion of the human mind.

@urdithane thanks for replying! Mate attacked Peterson in another Rebel interview. I agree a balance between the maternal and paternal is huge.
