      Same here. Did them when I was young, high school. Helped me work on negative aspects of myself. Decades ago. What I can remember is looking at myself from an outsiders perspective. They were classic "bad trips". Called by some , challenging trips, now.. which I like the sound of that better. Not fun at the moment, but can be life changing events.
      There is still a stigma about them. Did dmt for the first of many times about 6 months ago. Its the opposite of "fight club". Once you do it , its hard not to talk about. Im older , sober guy now for a long time, but mentioned journeys to friends even clients. They all look at you in a strange way. Well not all, the ones that have done psychedelics before can relate a little. But for me that was only one person.
      I dont smoke weed anymore, but the stigma on weed is much less than it was in the past. More culturally accepted. Psychedelics is moving in that direction. Will take years and will take the efforts of people who society in general deem as respectable , vs stoner types posting trip reports.

      Took magic Mushrooms with my younger brother-in-law 30+ years ago at a campfire in Eastern Washington. Great camping spot by the Teanaway river.
      Ended up seeing the Northern lights! I will admit that we were sure that Aliens 👽 were landing! However we ended up waking the wife and Sister and she was not tripping! She then pointed out that there were no aliens and just what the hell were we doing taking drugs!?
      Absolutely a great experience and since Roger is no longer with us a great memory of someone I am proud to call little brother!
      RIP Roger!

    I’m getting ready to delve into the psychedelic realm again. It’s been 30 years and I’m both excited and terrified. One thing I’ve done that I didn’t do when I was a “kid” was take ownership of the medicine. No “street vendors” for me. A couple of years ago I started a perfectly legal cactus garden and now after all this time, one of my “babies” is dosage length. I believe the level of commitment and care I’ve put into this plant from the moment she was a seed to now will make a difference in the experience. She will take care of me like I did her…at least that’s how it works with my cannabis. I’ll let y’all know.

      Im older now,, no desire to trip balls for hours anymore.. Used to lsd and shrooms quite a bit as a teen and young adult. Helped me change or work on some negative aspects. Which I think helped pave a better future for the decades that followed.. Being "wiser" now have thought before just what mention.. If I used them with respect, with goals, maybe I would have gotten more out of them,, vs. using them as a party drug. Which psychedelics really are not party drugs. I see that now. Hopefully by opening discussing these things the young and future generations will use these things with purpose vs. doing them just to feel weird and see weird things.
      One good thing about the internet is at your fingertips information and even varying opinions.. Back in my day, in high school, home computers were not even a thing.

    Tim doing a great service to humanity, hope Sweden will change but Sweden has become a backward country where nobody takes responsibility and only point to the system. After 15 years of depression, and countless drugs, kkt, training, I had the opportunity to try psilocybin and I did 3 sessions medium dose, exactly like pollan say, it was for me a dialectic terapi and the mushroom or sub self spoke the truth, it was so.....if not for me, the best experience in my life...to experience a glimpse into the history of human development...
    I am off all medication. I still have some problems, but my constant worries and anxiety are reduced by 80%.

    • @rolux4853
      @rolux4853 2 роки тому

      Hey, do you also where/are addicted to substances (opioids) due to your depression and anxiety?
      If yes, did the mushrooms also helped you with that?

    • @redheat66
      @redheat66 2 роки тому +2

      @@rolux4853 first I insist on that these substances should be use with a experience guide and health control, dialog with a psycolog therapist. And be ready to open your mind to the experience and then work with it...
      i belive that in life, we can't find the solution until we are ready/open. the psylosybin helped me to defrag and syncronis my mind. It helped me look at my self differently and my roll in this world. This new perspective and understanding helped my change my mental addiction and gave my new perspective that help me se the truth and what matters in our life, this made my depression less severe. It helps the mind, not my bodys cravings.
      Iboga did remove my cravings for all substances. BUT i had not fixed my mind. So i continue with my addiction mentality but in lesser degree. Not until i did psylosybin i did understand. It's my view if life, my values, my why, that i can choose to suffer for a reason. This was over a period of 2 years.
      Iboga did help me to feel happy again. Something i forgot how it was due to depression. BUT it only last for about 3-5 weeks.
      But a profound effect.
      Psylosybin = mind
      Iboga = more physical
      Note: this is my experience. And a simplification of both substances and the experience in whole. You must Do the Work, You must still change your life by choosing. I believe that Meditation is absolutely 100% critical to do in order to change your life and mind. Ps. 🤬 The more you hate meditation, the better effect it will give you 🥳😉 after..

    From 1968 to 1973 I took psychedelics Approximately 300 times. It was my drug of choice in the 60s/70’s. I believe it’s allowed me to gain much insight. It finally ran it’s course as the last time I took it it just made me cry. It was a sign I had reached the bottom of my psyche and my course this direction was complete. I believe since that time it has given me great insight into myself, other people, society, and spirituality that has been invaluable.

    I feel like psychedelics allowed my soul and humanity to surface when i first took an interest to them. Like i _really_ opened my eyes for the first time.
    I still carry massive weight on my shoulders from a really traumatic past (unrelated to psychs) and I've gotten extremely stuck in my life because of it, being a former escapist opioid addict etc..
    But I've at least learned to have love, empathy, understanding, and happiness to be my primary feelings and vibes towards others. That's exactly the energy i wanna radiate.
    I don't judge others as much, i don't harbor resentment and jealousy that much anymore.
    Instead I try to appreciate every single second I'm alive.
    Even if I'm a former dope addict who lives in poverty, barely has enough money to eat, no job etc.. at least I'm not one of those judging and ignorant and hateful robot-like people who treat me like a complete failure and not even human.
    But I don't really care that much, i don't measure success on the same scale as them.
    They're the ones who are missing out on life ✌️❤️

      @@lastnamefirst4035 that's kinda missing the point. I don't really hate people who wanna live like that, it just.. really doesn't make sense to me at all. Such a waste to live their whole life being intentionally a massive negative influence on others, :|
      But meh, live and let live, I hope everyone can find their inner peace some day.
      But my original point still stands, I'd rather live my life being exactly what and who I am. For positivity and love, instead of negativity.
      And I guess I kinda am judging people who live to drag others down with them, or shamelessly using others as stepping stones for their own happiness/success, and punching down at people like me. It's a basic moral principle. Boils down to: "don't be a dick"
      But that doesn't still mean what you're implying. Hope you have a better day :|

      Life is long. You have a lot of time here. Be kind to yourself, and don't try to do too much. We can't really fix much of what's "wrong" but just keep slinging those vibes guy. That's the highest we will ever be able to achieve anyways why sweat over stuff that really doesn't matter when you close your eyes. I never thought, in a million years, that I would be where I'm at "in life" right now. You have time. I hope to see an update someday.

    I just dropped 3 hits of LSD on the beach in Cancun last month and sat there by myself all day. Thousands of miles away from home. I was in awe of the vastness of the ocean. The turquoise waves spoke to me. The cotton clouds had a message. The Sun was my Lord. I felt the mightiness of nature as I was tossed around in the water. I felt significant and insignificant at the same time. So... back to reality now, if that's what this is.

    I want Michael Pollan. If you have something that you really want in your life, spend lots of time thinking about it. The more you think the more ideas will pop up the more creative your gonna start to get. Your subconscious mind doesn't care if your vision is crazy. It doesnt care if you dont know how to do it.
    When you see a thing clearly in your mind, your creative "success mechanism" within you takes over and does the job much better than you could do it by conscious effort or willpower.
    A different psychedelic from a different planet every nanosecond.
    All sorts of dreams are possible.
    The human nervous system cannot tell the difference between an "actual" experience and an experience imagined vividly and in detail.
    Synthesize "experience," to literally create experience, and control it, in the laboratory of our minds.
    A vision is a very emotional image, the most powerful image that you can come up with for yourself at this time. This vision will become like a hallucination in other peoples mind and this could be the cause of them creating extraordinary things.

    This is a great interview. Tim had some great questions and the interviewee had even better answers.
    Speaking from personal experience I've never done any drugs or any other substance yet I've had many mystical experiences beyond anything I've read in a drug experience. Beyond even the "dissolution of ego". Being sober while being completely "gone" is the most sobering experience a human being can have.
    During my experience I had no hallucinations I only saw myself as everything. Which doesn't make any sense to me even now. Unfortunately I wasn't able to integrate these experiences, because if I did I would be considered a self realized or enlightened being. Too bad I missed it.
    Only now I'm back on my path working very hard towards knowing what this reality is.
    The only way to the truth is to seek it. The only way to seek it is to value the truth over your own life.
    The rest of us are part-time seekers. These people on the show are part-time seekers. I'm a part-time seeker looking for a full-time position.
    I'll see you on the other side 😉

      This experience happened to me dozens of times over a period of 18 months at completely random times. If I was able to flip on and off like a switch I would keep it on 100% of the time. Haha
      It's been 7 years since my last experience and I am only now "picking up the pieces". I don't claim to know what happened to me or why but I do have general sense now. This general sense has helped me get back on path for realizing my ultimate nature (and/or) realizing the nature of reality itself.
      It's important to note here that "Self-Realization" does not mean you come to a sudden knowledge (as the term realization might imply). If that was the case I could sit you down on the couch and explain in very plain terms just what there is to "realize". This is not the case. The "Ultimate Truth" cannot be captured in words or understood - it can only be "seen" or "witnessed". The best that any human being can do is to integrate this into their daily life. I am of course proudly speaking of the next step in human evolution: super-conscious.
      I hope this helps clear things up :) ... insert mountain of questions here -->

    I disagree that psychedelics have a low likelihood of impact in brains that are "too entropic" as I have been utilizing the psychedelic LSD in conjunction with MDMA to address my own challenges with Bipolar 2 Disorder. The short version of it is simply that it takes a longer time for the beneficial effects to be experienced by persons with such intense physiological disadvantage however it is not impossible. Additionally, the combination of micro-dosing regimens in conjunction with a full psychedelic or MDMA session is necessary in order to provide a form of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy whereby the benefits of a session which in myself had been short-lived, to begin with, are better indoctrinated over a progressive approach rather than a one-off treatment. The combined use of MDMA with psychedelics (as technically it is not considered one, being classified as an empathogen not entheogen) is necessary, though it may come across to some as a slippery slope into misuse as they have completely different benefits, is essential as psychedelics may provide the power of a change in thought pattern and ego dissolution however MDMA will provide the healing element of recovering from endless episodes of mood swings (for Bipolar in this case) that have a much greater hold on the Main Decision Network and need a more dedicated approach at rooting out. This is also in collaboration with lifestyle changes ( a big thanks to Tim for his books which I began to read long before I learnt that he too battled Bipolar) and self-awareness practice i.e meditation etc which have also been advocated in this video and are obvious as the next stage of development to anyone who has but one experience with psychedelics (more so than MDMA which is a lot more transitory in its effects on increased presence and awareness). This is after research into psychotherapeutic studies and research made available to the public which as Pollan correctly states is only focused on Depression and PTSD (in the case of mental illnesses) at present which is reasonable as it is the most understood physiologically. Psychedelics are not a one-stop shop to treatment but are a tool to be used in a life long journey of healing, self-discovery and positive change both internally and externally that must be approached with a sober rational mind.

    Interesting to hear Michael talk about induced schizophrenia or psychosis froma trip and also mention that there may already be the preconditions for this to happen as before hand there maybe self medication etc...this is exactly what happened with my brother many years ago now back in the 80's.He had been smoking copious amounts of cannabis and had taken acid a few times but this one time he had a bad trip which culiminated in him being hospitalised and diagnosed with schizophrenia and told he would be on life long medication.
    Whilst I agree it is true this could have happened anyway as the prerequisites I think were already there in our family dynamic essentially and generational trauma I now believe due to my own expereinces which were not brought about by psychedelics but after a severe depressive episode which opened up a break which could be better described as a spiritual emeregnce or awakening but with psychotic features maybe or what to all intents and purposes could look like psychosis on the outisde but inside feels more like a spiritual awakening and of the qaulities very much described by Michael here and others who take psychedelics.
    What I have reason to think now that much of what we call schizoprenia or psychosis also has a healing potential if dealt with and responded to in the right way and not simply diagnosed and medicated and also traumatised by the psychiatric system itself not to mention the stigma of society etc.
    I do believe what gets labelled schizoprehnia is again much misunderstood and a psychotic break in itself might be the minds attempt at trying to heal itself and re-organise itself into a more coherent whole just as Stan Groffs work on holotropic breathwork was trying to do and who worked with psychedelics also before they were made illegal.He noticed how intense breathwork could induce similar states to lsd.
    I think it is great that such things as micro dosing psychedelics are being researched with possible use eventually in a mental health setting but I also think its important to keep other modalities open to such as breathwrok and meditation and somatic based therapies.
    I also think ist really important as he later mentioned that these so called disorders"are indeed not discrete objective entities in themselves but merely DSM fictions which are nothing but the grouping of symptoms and are subject to change depending on who is assessing or making a diagnosis at the time.They are often highly subjective and culturally bound ideas and labels of behaviours considered by an observer who has not other context often for the persons behaviour.Nothing is ever asked about that persons history or trauma or even whether it was a drug induced psychsois or even a sleep deprivations induced or other stress induced psychosis.
    Basically under certain conditions anyone of us could become psychotic or schizophrenia given the right conditions.In fact the best way to understand many of these so called disorders in through a trauma informed lense and as Michael says some maybe more biochmiecal in origin but there is not evidence to show this.
    Michael should really do a talk with Crazywise director who looked at the overlap between those labelled with schizophrenia and the shamanic experiences he had documented from years of travelling to shamanic cultures who talked about this kind of break down being a call to shamanic initiation.We need to start looking at schizophrenia and psychotic sysmtoms ina different way and not merely as symptoms of pathology in the same way people are reenvisioning depression or anxiety and symptoms trying to tell us something that needs attending to and that something is off balance.

    What I realise now is if we don't abuse them and consume them in limited doses it can be the best thing for your life...

    It says exploring the frontiers of psychadelics, well, the "frontiers" of psychadelics are not so much frontiers, they have been explored quite thoroughly, by myself as well as many other more rigorous experimenters or trippers that I've known, and countless others unknown. And many of the points that are being presented in the conversation have been well known by many, but suppressed by the stigma and it's legal status.
    I'm glad it's finally re- emerging as a useful substance. As an experienced explorer of courageous doses of various psychadelics, I have always been an advocate, and believed that almost every one could benefit from a mind opening trip.
