Thanks for sharing your story. I'm also Canadian and its my dream to go and see my great-grandparents house in China as well. It is a very similar story of the house being built on money sent back from Canada. I'm glad you got to have such a great experience. Thanks again.

Dan, your grandpa is a good man, your seto ancestors will bless you and your villagers. Its not your Grandpa's fault. He is trying his best to help all his relatives and family members.
Urbanization of China makes more and more villagers move into cities. I don't know whether it good or not. but i truely wish all your seto families having better life day by day.

You're very welcome. I was surprised to find out my grandfather's house is classified as a "diaolou", which is a fortress. Back then our money exchange rate was so high that they could build a village like this. I was expecting to see shacks on my first visit. Thanks for checking out my video.

Great to hear you can understand the Sze Yup dialect. I think you would enjoy visiting Hoiping. Our dialect is very much still in usage in that area. I do have access to names of villages with our namesake, so if you ever plan to visit Hoiping, I will do my best to help you find your village.

Thank-you for your kind words. My grandfather was a man of few words. I wish I could have talked to him more. Thanks for checking out my channel.

Hey Dan thanks for sharing. I stumbled upon your video by accident! I too am Canadian Chinese born in Quebec, I understand the dialect spoken as only a few people I know speak that dialect. I'm inspired more to visit the village my parents came from now. Great job with video, love the natural unedited theme of it.

I hope you do get a chance to visit your grandfather's house in Hoiping. Is your last name Seeto? I was wondering because Seto/ Szeto/ Situ has many different spellings and different pronunciations. If you know the name of your grandfather's village, I might be able to help you find out where it is if you don't already know. Thanks for checking out my video on my Grandpa's China House.

I was expecting to see shacks. I was so shocked to see these incredible buildings. Hoiping (Kaiping) is famous for it guard towers called "diaolou". Little did I know my grandfather's house is technically a diaolou. Check out my other videos on diaolou if you get a chance. Thanks so much for commenting on my video on Looking Inside My Grandfather's House.
