Happy to have found your channel. My paternal grandfather's lineage goes back to this area so I discovered you seeking more information about where that part of my family comes from. I am so hungry now having watched this video and want to plan a trip even more.
Welcome to my channel. I have 2 other channels you might want to check out: Chinese Canadian Roots TV and Chinese Cooking Channel. Going to visit your roots is definitely a worthwhile trip. I wish you all the best in your journey. If you have any questions, let me know. Thanks for viewing my video.
This was very interesting to watch. I didn't know folks over there ate something similar to balut. My dad was from Hoiping, mom from Toisan. We didn't have a microwave until I was closer to high school. I remembered my parents would heat up leftovers from the fridge by steaming. They also cooked lettuce but never served it with beef chow fun.
Great to hear your roots are from this area.
My grandfather had an incubator. Sometimes he would hatch chicks and sometimes he would get it to this stage of the egg. When I was about six years old, my grandfather used to tell me not to tell anyone we ate them. I probably only had it only a few times after. I was surprised they served them in China.
My mom still steams the leftovers like your parents. Check out my other channel under my name "Dan Seto" for other videos related to Hoiping and Chinese cooking. Thanks for checking out my video.
Hi,
I’m a Malaysian.
My grandfather was born in kaiping but he migrated to Malaysia( then known as Sarawak) in the early twentieth century.
I know very little about kaiping but I hope to visit it one day even though I’ve no known relatives there.
I understand my grandfather was from a village known as Po Lo Heung (I know very little Chinese/mandarin). Do you know where exactly this village is located? If you do, could you tell me please?
I speak a little bit of the kaiping dialect. Your video clip or rather the folks in it speaking kaiping resonates with me.
My grandfather’s surname is Chow ( same as the late premier Chou En Lai).
Cheers.
Great to hear your grandfather's roots are from Kaiping (Hoiping). Great to hear you can speak the dialect. It is well worth a visit to Kaiping if you get a chance. I'm not familiar with youtr grandfather's village. There is government office that has resources to help but I'm not familiar with it. Thanks for viewing my video.

This food looks delicious. I wouldn't be able to stop eating the Taro Root
So many different ways to cook Taro Root. Thanks for checking out my video.
Now I'm hungry again. Lol
You are fortunate to be able to go to China to enjoy this wonderful food.
Thanks, Dan.
Now I have to cook something. Noodles!
I had some Chinese Chicken Noodle Soup yesterday. I used spaghetti but the noodles came out like the ones in the tin can Campbell soup. Enjoy your noodles. Thanks for viewing my video on Hoiping China Food Tour.
@@TasteAndTravelAsia My Asian pantry is well stocked. I went to Asian market last week & bought everything. Live abalone 2 for $4.00 so I made abalone congee a few days ago.
That's a great deal for abalone. A few days ago, I went to a Chinese restaurant where they served 2 fresh abalone for $98.00 Canadian.
@@TasteAndTravelAsia OMGOSH. I know the canned ones are expensive here. The live ones are still on sale. 2 for $3.99.
oh, man, great trip again
love to eat the hometown food, it seems that you go back annually---almost? I try bi-annual visit. winter time, sugar cane, tons of citric fruits, summer time hot, but with lychee, longan fruits available, worth to risk take a hit by high heat and eat those tropical fruits which I can not buy fresh in san francisco bay area.
Yes, I tend to go in the fall and winter. One of these days, I'll go in the summertime. Wishing you all the best in the New Year. Thanks for viewing my video on Street Food And Famous Food In Hoiping, China.
I went to Hoiping last October spending a night in the city. I am looking for a recipe for brown sugar steamed rice balls that look like grapes grandma use to make with sweet rice flour.
Great to hear you went to visit Hoiping. Here is my mom's recipe but it's made in a sugar broth. ua-cam.com/video/rkAVcquS3AU/v-deo.html
It's in my other channel under my name Dan Seto. In that channel, there are more of my mom's Chinese village recipe. Thanks for viewing my video on Street Food And Famous Foods In Hoiping, China.
it’s been 15 years that I haven’t been back to my hometown after all my family immigrated to New York. I am from 开平 赤坎五龙. I felt very geniality after watching your videos. Keep up the good work Dan 👍🏻👍🏻
Great to hear your roots is from the Chiak Hom (Chikan) area. I have heard of your village's name but I don't know where that is. I don't know if you know that Chikan has been shut down for total renovation. Thanks for viewing my video on Street Food And Famous Food In Hoiping, China.
Looks great! What's the sauce on the deep fried taro and how is the premature chicken soup made? Great video.
The sauce on the deep fried taro is made with condensed milk. We used to make the premature chicken soup with gin and water but not sure what alcohol they used in the soup in this video. Thanks for viewing my video on Hoiping China Food Tour.

My family’s home village and dialect grandfather lived in 1917 to Canada
My grandfather came to Canada during that time. I wonder if my grandfather ever meet your grandfather, if they lived in the same area. Thanks for viewing my video on Street Food And Famous Food In Hoiping, China.
Are you still going to continue posting?
Yes, I will be posting again. I post more to my other 2 channels. Thanks for viewing my video on Street Food And Famous Food in Hoiping, China.
@@TasteAndTravelAsia ok thank you
😋😋😋👍👍👍
Thanks very much. 非常感谢。
I will really miss this. They have closed this street down for renovations. I heard it will be turned into a tourist spot with paid entrance
I think are talking about Chiak Hom Town, also known as Chikan Town. I was there last year and most of the people had moved out. It will be much more commercialized when it reopens. Have you heard how close to re opening? Thanks for viewing my video on Street Food And Famous Food In Hoiping, China.
@@TasteAndTravelAsia Not sure when they will reopen but I will swing by next year when it's safe to fly
People from Chiak Hom & Hong Hou areas pronounce Kaiping/Hoiping as Hoipeng.
Yes, there are various pronounciations and you are correct. Also known as Hoi Hen. Thanks for viewing my video.
@@TasteAndTravelAsia oh, yea, you're right. I just recalled that my late grandparents used to pronounce it as Hoi Hen. My late grandma was also a Sze Hoo from Chiak Hom.

I don't know where your father's village is but if it's in Taishan, then it's not too far from my roots in Hoiping., Your Toisan dialect is similar to our Hopiping dialect, so I would be able to understand most of the Toisan dialect. Thanks for viewing my video on Street Food Anjd Famous Food In Hoiping (Kaiping) in China.

I always find it interesting, and I'm curious about it, why some cultures insist on not consuming an animals blood, but other cultures do.... I'm not sure, but maybe it's only the Abrahamic religions, the Middle East and Western Christians that are adamant about not consuming the blood? But there's life in the blood, so why throw it away? I don't understand, but quite curious about it, just haven't explored the reasons much.
I'm not really why it is consumed. It is more common in Chinese cooking in China than here in North America. Although dishes such as congealed pork blood is popular at dim sums in China and Canada. Thanks for bringing up this interesting topic. Thanks for checking out my video on Street Food And Famous Food In Hoiping, China.
