Continental Trail Attack 3 Review - 2000 mile update | How have they performed?

    I fitted a pair of the new Continental Trail Attack 3 dual-sport tyres to my Triumph Tiger 800 back at the end of March. They replaced the stock Bridgestone Battlewings which had started to square off at around 6500 miles. The Trail Attack despite the name is probably a more road-focused tyre and promised to perhaps offer more performance on tarmac whilst still allowing an element of off-road usability?
    Having now covered approaching 2500 miles on them, what have I found out?

    Thank you for sharing! ... My sons and my experience too. You cant get a better alround tire for this application at present!
    My son and I have been driving actual Metzler Tourance next on Africa Twin vs. the Contis on Honda Transalp over two weeks through the high alps on holiday together - and I had a lot of work to do follow him on his Transalp because the Contis are just better at max lean angles; it's not much, by they definitive are, the Metzeler at exact same speed start to slip where the Contis still don't. (Uphill sections prefered.)(1) (Tire pressure etc. all okay of course.)
    1 - The price for a set of both for my Africa Twin had been just the same, and I did regret my 'second only' choice in buying the Metzeler, the difference in performance turned out to be obvious, and the Contis last longer too. (Both Metzeler and Pirelli are good in marketing their products, yes.)

    I've got these on my GS and have done about 6000 miles on them. I'd say they're great until Autumn when the roads are covered in mud and leaves. I'm considering moving to something like the Karoo Street for winter riding as the roads in Yorkshire can get pretty dirty.

    • @mancavemoto
      @mancavemoto  2 роки тому

      I've been riding an Africa Twin with Karoo Street's and have been really impressed. They give off a little bit of noise and vibration, but as with you, the lanes around here get pretty mucky during the winter.

    What are your thoughts about the difference between the michelin anakee adventure, pirelli scorpion trail ii and this?
    I know the michelin are more 70:30 but in road performance how much better are this trail attack III? Noise? Cornering?

    How many miles have you now, and of course, are you still satisfied with this tyre ?
    I really think this tyre is going to be the next one for my Kawasaki Versys 650.
    I think it's the first choice for me (95 % road, but often rain, sometimes snow and a little bit mud on the roads), before Dunlop Mutant (very good tyre, but not sure he will be fit and well after 4 or 5.000 miles) or a Pirelli Scorpion 2.
    Here in Belgium, we do not have a lot of opportunities in 17 inch "trail tyre" (front/rear).

      Which one of the two? Oooh a tough call, both are very good and hard to seperate. I’d probably lean towards the Conti for quicker warm up. But on warm tarmac there’s not much in it. The Dunlop feel ‘faster’ with their harder sidewalls

    • @mancavemoto

      No problem, when i bought the Tiger it had Battlax tyres on it. I prefered the Trail attack 3 as they felt more neutral. The Bridgestones weren't as progressive when cornering and I found that they tramlined a little.

    also could you comment on how these trail attacks feel on the corner tilts ?

    • @mancavemoto
      @mancavemoto  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks, both great tyres and really hard to seperate. No issues with cornering on either, very confidence inspiring. IF I had to seperate them, I would say the Pirelli's are better on gravel/hard packed trails and are a little 'chunkier'. The Contis can possibly be pushed a little harder on the tarmac

    Was about to purchase a set for my R1200GS. I was looking for something that offers great pavement grip both on dry and wet pavement. Do you know where they are made? I'm trying to avoid buying things made by near-slave labor. Especially if I'm paying a premium for a product. In the US, a set of these for the GS will run me $365 US. At that price I want the tires made by fairly compensated crafts-people following modern safety and environmental practices.

      A good question and one I can't answer i'm afraid, I don't know where they are made. Asphalt, yes, they do a lot! If you go to KTM, it's more of the same! The percentage that makes dirt, sand, is really small, mud is even worse! But, I love these tires. UK,,is not diferent!
