Your videos have massively helped and also massively added to the confusion at the same time :D From bingeing all of your videos, I thought i'd finally narrowed down my choices to Road 6's and Anakees, only to then add Scorpion trail 2's to the equation, then Scorpion STR's, and now...now these Contitrail 3's!!! I cannot decide. Atall. I ride very similar country roads to you, gravel scares me, but in reality i'm on bigger roads more than anything, but it still puts me off going for the road 6's for some reason, purely based on the fact country roads are more than 'just' road. Currently on stock Mitas E08's on my weestrom 650, they don't give me much confidence to be honest. Germany trip next week. Tyre's getting fitted Tuesday. Still not ordered. HELP! Awesome videos man, really your presentation is awesome and your laugh gets me every time, just makes you wanna get out on the bike.
Hahaha sorry!! Very good question! The Conti's didn't work incredibly well for the mid-corner gravel situations although better than just road tyres. I'd suggest the Anakee Adventure out of that lot - the are very marginally worse in wet weather than a Road 6, but have the grip in the slightly loose stuff. Plus they look cool. I've got them on my bike at the moment, and my mate has them on his Africa Twin and his riding has transformed. SO much more confidence. I do only get around 4k miles from a rear though. Also make sure you get the Anakee Adventures, not the Anakee 3 or other varients. They were nicknamed the Panickee 3 for a reason! Hope that helps and thanks for watching!!
@@SamVBikes I wish I checked this sooner... Your comment: 14:54. My order confirmation for ContiTA3's: 14:57 Came back here, read your comment! Typical. I'm sure I wont be disappointed though. Thanks so much for getting back to me on the feedback for the Anakee's - it was a tough decision to make. I think they just resemble my Mitas E08's a bit too much, so I wanted something slightly more roady and smooth...and different. That coupled with the fact that it sounds like the Conti's will last a tad longer than the Michelins. With that said, had I read your comment first, i'd probably have ordered the Anakee's instead! Haha...have been debating it for a while now. I simply just want a confidence inspiring tyre that's also good in the wet/gravel mid corner. Awesome channel bro, your riding videos are amazing, fun and easy. Great stuff.
@AlexSpetz hahaha damn!!! You won't be disappointed in the TA3s though, I've never ridden my bike harder than on those tyres. They are super confidence inspiring. They can slip a touch in the wet but only when you're pushing it!
Just got these fitted to my ATAS. road around 100 mile in pouring rain just after getting them fitted. So good. Gripped and gave confidence at every turn. Love them. Much better than the AVON trail rider that were on the bike.
Sam, I swear by Avon Trailriders. Absolutely brilliant tyre on the road, super sticky wet or dry, and they dont move if you’re crossing white lines, banding or even manhole covers! I think they would be even better than the Conti Trail 3’s. Ive got a 1250 GSA and currently sporting Road 6’s, once these wear out I’m going back to the Avon Trailriders! Think this speaks volumes. Try them and do one of your fantastic reviews, you’ll love them.😊
Ahh beaut!! I had those on an 890 adventure from KTM (at least I think it was those) as a loaner while mine was being serviced and thought the same. They seemed stupidly planted for something that looks THAT aggressive! Will give them a shot, thank you!
Ey'up Sam, I fitted Avon Trekrider a few months before I sold the missile and they were brilliant, I've got a set of Mutants in the garage to fit to the tractor before la grand tour then I'll be fitting the Trekrider when I get back just for the single track roads up here. Keep safe bud. 👍
Ahh lovely! I had a set of those on a loaner 890 while mine was being serviced. Seemed to be incredible things for how aggressive they looked! Cheers for watching mate

HI Sam, I'm amazed at your tyre munching on your SAS, I'm still with the original Mitas which are fine as I no longer do trail or wet riding if I can help it...... however, prior to my SAS purchase I had a H-D Pan Am S - bar for its hideous issues now seemingly resolved, it was a stunning bike, very close in performance etc, etc and had Michelin Anekee road tyres which were perfectly capable on light trails....I'm sure I'll be changing to them when the day arrives, but Ive still got a few k to go..... ride safe.
Ahh wow, how many miles do you have on them? I'm at 24k miles in with mostly semi--knobbly so they don't last long haha Those stock tyres are pretty good in the dry, but I really struggled to have confidence in them in the wet... The Anakee Advs are really good too! Loved the Pan-Am - Shame about the issues they had but to be expected with a brand new model, which is also a new venture for the manufacturer! Ride safe bud and thanks for watching
Thanks Sam, being considering the new Anakee Road but given they are the modern version of the panikee 3's it's narrowed my choice down to Road 6 or Anakee Adventure, vstrom 650.
Fitted a set Shinko 804/805 knobby off road tires for my ADV training I just finished up. Glad I did it was raining which made the whole thing a muddy mess! Probably will not use these in the future as I do more road than dirt. Thinking either Conti TA3 or maybe Dunlop Trailmax Mission if I decide I want to do more off pavement riding.
Ahh interesting to know - I've been tempted with the Shinko's but seen such a mix of reviews on them on the road so never pulled the trigger and bought them! If you still like the off road stuff every now and then, look at the Anakee Adventures, TKC70 Rocks, and Scorpion Rally STR etc too
Just an update, I just fitted the Continental Trail Attack 3. Such a big difference after the Shinko's! Makes the bike feel totally amazing on the road!
It's a Givi luggage rack (SRA7713 I think) and the rear tail pack is Lone Rider. The LR bag will go on anything though so no need for it to be rack specific!
I almost bought these tires but went with the Avon trailrider instead. I haven't had too much experience off-road with them yet as it's still cold in Canada where I live.
Nice. I bought Trail Attack 3s for my Tenere 700 to replace the Pirelli STRs. Can't wait for it. I ride 99% road anyway so I guess those 90/10 will be much better than 70/30 tyres.
@@SamVBikes Yeah they are great on dry pavement. I already scraped something with the STRs in a corner but couldn't find anything on the bike that scraped not even the pegs. I'm still wondering what I hit.. lol
With that type of Tire do you find having the suspension and Rider modes in a different mode helps with traction? I noticed you don't have your sw-motech city tank bag on. Is it too big for day-to-day riding?
To a degree yes, but not enough that you would notice it between this tyre and any other road tyre! It's too big if you only need it for your phone, wallet etc. I have the camera gear with me so it's perfect for me
So out of all the tires you have used. What is your favorite all rounder? I ride the roads mostly. And come from sportbikes. But still want gravel road capability.
Oddly, I've moved further and further away from all-rounders. There's not one tyre that is good enough off road, while still being properly capable on road, so I've started leaning toward full road tyres and when I want off road, fitting knobbiles. Anything in between seems compromised heavily on one side or both. However, I'm currently running the Michelin Anakee Adventures, which are one of the closest to that all-rounder. They handle really well on the road, not quite as good as a full road tyre, and they will handle gravel trails well enough but anything more serious than that (mud/wet grass etc), they get out of their depth very quickly. Same kind of story with something like the Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR. These contis were one of my favourite fast riding tyre for the road, but using them any further than gravel trails would find you on your ass pretty rapidly!
Superduke GT! Being in Scotland, it's Roads 6s all the way as it's 😢pissing rain 80% of the time albeit at this time of year there's loads of grit mud & run off Likewise, about 4k miles and the rear is shot

Has your opinion changed based on the recent crash, or would no tire have made a difference? I have the Pirelli Scorpion 2s on at the moment, going for sticky Metzeler Sportec M9 RRs, once the summer turns up.
The gravel on the road was like it had fallen off the back of a truck.. thick, loose stuff so I think I'd have only survived that with knobblies. They handled the rest of the day really well too!
Nothing about the tread pattern on the Trailattack suggests off-road capability to me, I see it a bit more with the Avon Trailriders which are only supposed to be 90/10! I think you're straight into TKC80 or AX41 territory as soon as you're dealing with mud tbh.
Yeah exactly! There is slightly more tread depth but I doubt there is much that will give much in the way off off road grip! And definitely agree on the mud! It has to be a knobbly on anything loose
Hello mate when I do my CBT then hopefully do my direct access to get my eye license. Hopefully I’ll come meet up with you and learn to do some adventure riding with you if that’s okay I’m 52 years of age and I’m just getting into it
I’m actually going with BMW training school in Royston and I’m learning on a BMW 310 then hopefully I’m going to book my theory in the next two weeks. If I pass that then I’m going to do the direct access learning to drive bigger bikes which is going to be a challenge, but I like challenges in my life of a testicle cancer in 2009, which I come through that and 2021 in July. I had pneumonia so this is something I need to do for myself and hopefully make new friends.
Ahh amazing! Congrats for getting through that! For me it's really opened up the world of traveling. I've visited places that I could have seen in the car, but the bike is such a better way to escape. Immersed in the environment. If you need gear or a place to ride to, BikeStop in old town Stevenage is a great place. The team there are lovely and will help you out. Tell them I sent you and you should get a discount too
My brother keeps telling not to ride motorbikes because it’s dangerous things in life are dangerous. Thank you for your support. It’s much appreciated once I’ve got my A license hopefully when I’ve got a bike, hopefully we can meet up and do things like adventure riding and hopefully touring
Exactly that! If you are aware, careful, and wear the proper gear, it's relatively safe! Bikes nowadays are so much safer with ABS, traction control and rider aids, and even the cheaper gear is way safer than it used to be!
Hi sam, needing to replace my tires in a few, currently stuck between two, pirelli scorpion trail 2 and the conti trail attack 3, which do you prefer? I mainly ride on road but our roads here in the philippines arent that good with lots of gravel bits and potholes, Im a new rider and would love any advise on this
Those two are very very similar - I prefer the Continental's but not a lot of difference in them. If you have more gravel, maybe look at something like a Michelin Anakee Adventure, Scorpion Rally STR or similar!
Ohhh Sunday bedtime again...! Tire talk gets rid of the Mrs, so I owe you one 😂! I run PR5/6's on my SAS and torn between them and the Bridgestone BT023's on previous steeds. Both stable when putting the power down but probably prefer the PR's, had a set of Metzeler sportec M9's which were awesome when it was dry but twitchy in the wet. Neither are any good on loose stuff... Especially when it's in the middle of a corner 🤫😢
You're welcome! Haha too right... I don't think any tyres would be much cop mid-corner on gravel ha! Unless they were proper knobblies. The Road 5 and 6 are definitely the most confidence inspiring tyres I've used in the wet. These were fantastic on fast roads at the weekend though, really got the chicken strips scrubbed off!
How many km did the road 6 last? I have put 10k on mine, but they are almost on their limit I know the ktm sas 2022 runs through tires fast, but still, I was expecting more from the road 6 I commute every day 70km here in Portugal
That sounds about right for the rear! The front lasted about 6k km longer so I got 2 rears to one front pretty much. I got over 18k kms from a set of Road 5s on my Tracer 700 so I assume its just the bike power!
Corrr, you're a brave man using them in mud! Had them on the Tracer and they clogged up faster than a new girlfriend's toilet on the first date! They are great tyres though!
Yeah you're right! They are ever so slightly better on light gravel than a dedicated road tyre.. but that's mainly because most dedicated road tyres have very little grip. Anything like a Road 6, Roadtec 01 etc will be pretty much the same
Achète la 1290 ADV R 2023 pour les mauvaises routes boueuses que tu utilise 😅ça serait peut être mieux, meilleur suspensions ,et avec de bon pneus ,tu serais l’aigle de la route de routes 😂
I couldn't get the GT on mine either but didn't feel them slip too much. That outer compound is pretty soft in comparison so takes a bit longer to warm up and grip
For me the Contis leave nothing to desire. Coming from the crappy Mitas, everything across the board has improved. I rode a few kilometers of old military gravel roads in the West Alps last year and they work just fine in dry conditions. Wet or smeary natural surface: beware! On the road they are perfectly reliable, wet or dry. The front could be a little sharper (I don't know if that's possible at all), but on the other hand they have nice internal damping, which makes the ride smooth. The handle bar shimmy I experienced with the Mitas is gone. Also, they do not have to be hot to work well, which is THE problem with the Mitas.
Too right! Mind you, I think I'd have more confidence if I sprayed my contis with oil over those stock Mitas 😂 I really put them to the test on fast roads yesterday and they handled incredibly well!

Nicely presented and well detailed review Sam, fun to watch even though the tyres are irrelevant to my bikes and riding. ,👍
Appreciate you taking the time to watch even though they aren't for you!
@@SamVBikes you're uploads are always informative and entertaining, your enthusiasm is infectious. Keep up the great work mate 👍
Appreciate it bud! Thank you for watching as always 🙌🏼
@@SamVBikes your welcome, have a great week mate 👍
You too mate!
I think you didn’t do a final review of the road 6
I didn't no! I was planning it but I didn't have it to hand after it blew in the Lake District! I will have them again though
Thanks so much! Will be sure to test those out
Ohhh Sunday bedtime again...!
I have put 10k on mine, but they are almost on their limit
I know the ktm sas 2022 runs through tires fast, but still, I was expecting more from the road 6
I commute every day 70km here in Portugal
That sounds about right for the rear! The front lasted about 6k km longer so I got 2 rears to one front pretty much.
I got over 18k kms from a set of Road 5s on my Tracer 700 so I assume its just the bike power!
Rally STR, i won't use anything else, fantastic on the road, and brilliant off road (dry/wet/mud or grass)
Corrr, you're a brave man using them in mud! Had them on the Tracer and they clogged up faster than a new girlfriend's toilet on the first date! They are great tyres though!
Any road tyre would perform the same in these conditions, so might as well just buy regular road tyre or go with 50:50 AX41
I never giggle like that when I ride. 😅
Road 6 on a 2021 gsa
Good choice!
But I can’t help feel that the back does slip about as the side wall can’t can’t manage the weight at power , couldn’t get a GT anywhere
Too right! Mind you, I think I'd have more confidence if I sprayed my contis with oil over those stock Mitas 😂
I really put them to the test on fast roads yesterday and they handled incredibly well!
Terrible review
Thanks! I really appreciate your kind words
It's a real world review!! I thought it was great especially relevant to UK road surfaces.. and about to buy a pair based on this :)
