I’ve made most of these items since the eighties. It’s super satisfying. And one of the best things that were used for eye liner/ eyebrows was clove buds for a beautiful brown. I have a batch of liquid rouge in the makes right now from a recipe from the 1700’s. So pretty.
My grandmother said that powdered brown gravy became a thing in the 1940s, women used to add the gravy powder to llotion or even Vaseline and would rub it into their legs and let it dry a bit for 'stockings' effect!!!
Love watching and learning. I wash my face with raw honey and frankincense essential oil. My moisturizer is castor oil, jojoba oil and frankincense. It works amazing.
Here's how my great grandma skincare looked: ●Plain yogurt as a mask once a week ●Olive oil+ sugar as a dace scrub ●Nivea cream (blue) for every part in the body! ●Corn starch as a dry shampoo and used as a deodorant too ●Vaseline or olive oil to remove eye makeup ●Pond's (but she didn't like the smell so she mainly used the Nivea) Voilà 😊😊🎉
Have you noticed how much thinner women were then, and not because of rationing. They always looked so chic. Really interesting video. Love this! I am trying some of these tips. Thanks much!😊
I tried it ONCE😂My grandmother told me about it, so I figured I would save a bit on hairspray. Every bee for miles around was coming for my hair, so that was the end of that!
I’m surprised about the use of sugar in homemade beauty products. My grandparents, who lived during the war, told me that sugar was rationed at that time. Their frugality carried throughout the rest of their lives, because I would get in trouble if I accidentally spilled the sugar.
It could be that sugar was available in the US. It wasn’t in many countries including Australia. My grandmother used to make her own scrub with olive oil and cooking salt as being an island we have always had lots of sea salt. She told me that women used to set their hair with egg whites. Eggs were unavailable commercially but most people kept chickens in their backyards. She also used a face mask made from oat meal that she still used decades later.
Hi I have always admired your two large pictures that you have on the wall of the lady in blue. She looks like originally she might have been drawn with pastels. Do you know who the artist is and where you purchased these at?❤😃
Thank you! She’s actually an artist from Victoria bc. She’s no longer alive and I purchased them at an auction. The paintings are from the 1960s called vintage glamour girls
@@Laurajaneatelier Thank you so much. I enjoy your channel and I’ve learned a lot. I’ve been so inspired that I’ve even found a dressing table with a skirt on marketplace in the town I live in Virginia
My grandmother told me that she used to spray her stockings with starch and put them in the freezer which helped them last longer.

My mother-in- law said she used to draw the black line on her legs during WW11 because she couldn’t afford nylons

Cigarette ashes and burned matches were used to darken eyebrows. Might have been good to touch up gray hairs too.
Oh wild
also Marlene Dietrich would use soot for a smoky eye.
The creativity and resilience is so amazing ❤.
And seeing strength in all the women is so beautiful
I agree so inspiring

There wasn't as much junk/fast food, and they didn't have particularly sedentary lifestyles then.
@@ladywytch129 so true.
They ate less and loafed around far less, and got out and worked everyday. Slimmer boðy.

Don’t forget “Hello lovelies!”❤
I used the sugarwater in the 80's to keep my hair UP

Flat beer as setting lotion. However beer and sugar were both rationed I believe.
The sugar water will attract every yellowjacket in town.
Very interesting

Hi Laura, please make one video about bobby pins
Max factor made pancake and panstick
Can I make a red lipstick out of petroleum jelly and red food coloring?
Just the two will give you a gloss with a bit of a stain.
@@ladywytch129 Thanks for letting me know. 😃
Just go splurge on a Christian Dior red lipstick 💄 They last forever 🎉
Use powdered sugar drink mix stick. Strawberry, fruit punch...
