    Most informative and easiest to follow belt change video I've ever seen for a 2 valve Ducati. I have the same bike but a year older, mine was taken care of horribly by previous owner, working on fixing it up right now. Earned a sub from me!

    hey now, im from NC and i dont sound a lick like that! haha Thanks for the tutorial man, just got a 06 Ducati Monster 620 Dark Edition and im glad i found a good tut on belts as its coming up on 24k miles and the previous owner had it sitting for a while. no real clue when the belts were last changed but he said it wasnt "too" long ago. bike sounds good so im really not too worried. hopefully haha regardless, thanks again for the tutorial man, will be using it in the upcoming weeks. Cant be too safe when buying older stuff, wont hurt much besides the pocket but will save a lot if it had been neglected.

    There are little screws (on mine m750 S.i.e.). You take the screw out and it allows you to put something through the hole and into the teeth of the gear. Then the gear doesn’t move.

    • @RideWNC
      @RideWNC  3 роки тому +1

      The only goal is to have the same as the belt you removed. right or left does not matter. Get a four valve motor and the fun begins.

  • @wbvizard70
    @wbvizard70 8 років тому

    are you using the "exact fit," brand of belts or the official ducati belts? Also, would your method of installing belts work on a 4 valve ducati?

    • @RideWNC
      @RideWNC  8 років тому +1

      I used the Chinese knock offs sold by gothamcycles.com. They are exact fit and half the price of the OEM belts.
      With the four valve it is a good idea to line up all of the timing marks. You will need to get the wrench to turn the shaft and the pulley holder. Then you will mark the belt in three places. When you pull the first belt off you place the holder on the pulleys this way you know the cams don't turn. You can get the tools cheap from hdesausa.com.

    Cool!! DO you think if this method working well with 695? Thank you!!

    • @RideWNC

      Yes... You only have two sprockets to deal with on each cylinder.

  • @avitmadness

    Will this trick work with 4v 748, great video subbed.

    • @RideWNC
      @RideWNC  6 років тому

      Yes. But, you will need to get the cam tool to hold the cams in place for the front cylinder while you work on the rear. you do not want one cam to get even a tooth out of place and they turn easily when the belt is removed.

  • @larryalexander4833

    How often should the belts be changed ?? Just bought a used 620 multistrada . I'm going to change so I have piece of mind.

    • @RideWNC
      @RideWNC  5 років тому +1

      15000 miles or two years. The rear cylinder takes a lot of abuse. Lack of air cooling just weakens the rear belt.

    Mike,
    Are you supposed to test the tension on the cam belts?

    • @RideWNC
      @RideWNC  5 років тому

      If you want to. Your goal is to get te belts on but not so tight that the belts have way too much tension.

  • @tbgtbg6311

    If a bike has been sitting for several years, do you still change the belts due to material degradation, even thought there are no miles? Thanks

    • @RideWNC
      @RideWNC  2 роки тому

      Two new belts are 100.00. One used head is 500.00, if you can find one and it is very difficult to remove a cylinder head. I would personally change the belts.

  • @simontempler3239
    @simontempler3239 Рік тому

    great video ....but I understand why you marked the pullies to the case...however why did you mark the belts?

    • @RideWNC
      @RideWNC  Рік тому

      Without tension on the belt, it is easy to put the belt in the wrong notch. It is extra protection from a costly mistake. Even with the pullies marked to the case, they will move and can get the belt out of place. I wish the belts came marked like timing chains are.

    Hey I have a question.
    After I changed the belts and did some kilometres on it. Do my marks have to line up with the marks on the Belt again? I am angry about that because they dont line up anymore but im sure i followed all steps from the Video and during the Installation they were in one line.

    • @RideWNC
      @RideWNC  4 роки тому +3

      Once your belts are replaced, Clean the marks off of the belts. They will Never EVER match up again. It might match up again, and if you notice it, that is the day you should play the lottery.

    • @RideWNC

      My tire paint stick easily wipes off when I am done with the job. It will last if it sets for more than an hour. Most of us don't like permanent paint marks on or inside of our bikes. But it is your bike do with it as you want.

    • @bl4ckde

      @@RideWNC The edding also isnt permanent. It is like Tip Ex if you know that. You can scratch it off or wash it away with water. Its for correcting documents to write over it. But you can mark it much more precise and decent.

      Changing belts on a Ducatis is pretty easy, but I do get the random Starbuck's customer who says that they need to be harmonically tuned. I call BS. Put the new belt on and ride. Just don't ride more than two years or 15K miles on a set of belts and you will always be OK. I have 70K miles on an 848 with no belt issues.
