What kind of government leaders would even want the AI to operate yet? It’s still in its infancy. Totally agree with Josh.

My problem is, restricting adults from AI or whatever freedom they choose just because kids can access it is not freedom, it is censorship. I'm all for restricting kids access to AI if that is the intent, but they have no legal right to restrict adult's access to it. period.

    • @oldyellerschannel4676
      @oldyellerschannel4676 5 місяців тому

@@drunkenskeptic6633 True. Parents are supposed to be responsible for EVERYTHING their MINOR children are doing.
Hawley's Bill, puts the responsibility in the hands of the government, and as usual, by doing so, excuses parental involvement in their children's activities and lives.
During the lockdowns, parents were suddenly made aware of what their children were being taught, but WHY did it take a lockdown for the parents to realize this?
Because they had left the entire education of their children, up to the state.
I get that not all parents are capable of the oversight of their kids, but Hawley's solution is to SUE...after harm is already done!
      That's no solution!
A long long time ago, when computers were first introduced into homes, the government did put put PSAs for the use of computers when it came to children.
One of the things they insisted that parents do, is to have the "home computer" in a public room, like the kitchen, rec-room or livingroom.
NEVER, they insisted, place a computer in the privacy of your child's' room, not because you can't trust your kids,
but because you can't trust what is OUT THERE on the Net. Make it so a parent can walk by the child and the computer at any time a ns SEE what's on the screen.
Smart phones and laptops destroyed that, because kids all seem to have phones, and laptops that they can take anywhere, and look at anything.
It is STILL on the parents though, to KNOW what your kids are up to on line, to ask them what they are watching, to educate them about the potential dangers,
and even to restrict access if you think there is any potential danger, abuse or RED FLAGS.
What ever happened to parents being involved in the lives of their kids??
Don't take even more responsibility away from parents, by just allowing them to SUE after their kid has been sexually compromised or threatened on line!
Time for parents to step up.
Besides, Cruz is right...bring on the Ambulance Chasers...
I also don't like Hawley's premise, about the baby powder, and J&J. Johnson & Johnson were NOT "putting asbestos into baby powder".
The old baby powder was made from Talc, which is actually ground up rocks.
The kind of Talc that was used is found in the same area where asbestos is found, geologically.
They were negligent in making sure there were NO trace amounts in the powder, but to say they deliberately "put it in" the powder is a lie,
and Hawley shouldn't be using a false premise like this as a basis for his argument.
Johnson & Johnson also did not "stop putting asbestos into baby powder", they simply stopped making ANY baby powder out of Talc,
and now ALL baby powder, in fact all body powders, from J&J to Gold Bond are Cornstarch based, which is better.
So the lawsuit did accomplish something.
I just don't see the correlation between baby powder, and AI, with one exception, parents are the ones making the purchases.
They buy the computers, supply the iPhones, the laptops, they pay for the monthly contracts, they allow their kids to play the games, to watch the TV,
to go on line, and they also buy the food and the hygiene products they and they kids use.
If more parents would care enough to be responsible, and be interested in what their kids are doing on line, these laws wouldn't even be needed.

is this a seperate bill from the tik tok bill? if it's anything like the anti tik tok bill that he was promoting not too long ago i'd absolutely vote against josh as well. I agree with the guy's sentiments but if like Cruz says, the bill hasn't been debated over or have had people with the experience giving a good context so that the people who vote on it can understand what they are getting into or out of then passing it at this time would be premature.
If this is part of the anti tik tok bill then this bill needs to be buried and destroyed.

If a child is talking to an ai then you have to blame the parent. Maybe make them click a confirmation that they are 18+, which kids will click anyway(so what's the point). While I agree that Big tech is outta hand the ai isn't the issue, it's the political censorship. They should risk losing section 230 coverage if they don't actually remain a neutral platform.

If a toy is faulty in design and is sold in the market, the manufacturer should be liable for harms it causes. However, in the case where a toy is well designed for a toddler but a parent gives that toy to a baby and resulting in harm, that parent should be responsible and not the manufacturer. The same logic applies to the seller of a technology. In the case started by Senator Josh Hawley where a person committed suicide because of answer given to that person by AI, the seller of AI should be held responsible. The developers of AI should also be held responsible if there are sufficient evidence to show these developers had intended to cause harms to AI users.

It’s hard to pick a side they both make good points and when they pass a new law it should be made right and serve the citizens! But I’m leaning towards Senator Hawley!😊

I totally agree with Tom Cotton on this subject. The people in this country should be able to sue a company for what they make your kids believe is true. This country has changed in my life time. People today only know how to live from the internet and social media sites. People today would not survive without their phones. People today can't think for themselves and realize what life is truly like. True reality is wisdom and realization of being a person that learns to make decisions you didn't hear from companies nor what someone else said. People today are sheep. They can't live life without technology.

I agree and disagree. Part of it is the parents needing to be responsible.
However big tech does target young kids as well as other people.
But again, parents need to be actual parents.

Exactly why big tec should have age restrictions and be held accountable.

@@leonarddarson447 and the parents who don't watch what their children consume. You can't place the blame entirely on the company.
And age restrictions are bs. Everyone lies. And everyone knows it.

It doesn't sit right with me that he is more worried about the money that can be made. He put children and parents last on the list of people being harmed.
NO COMPANY SHOULD BE IMMUNE FROM LAWSUITS IF SOMEONE WAS HARMED BY THEIR PRODUCT!!

Hawley/ Cruz should produce such a bill such as this together.

This sounds like a good bill. But after Josh and Ted work on this bill together, I think it will be a much better bill. Ted Cruz supports the bill , but he wants to make it a stronger bill and it sounds like Josh knows that. Lets watch this bill over the next 15 days or so.

I believe Hawley is correct in principle, but I am with Ted Cruz in this situation. If we were to move forward with Hawley’s proposal, it would turn into a legal nightmare that would bog down the tech giants. Some may say “great, the deserve it!” I think trial attorneys can be more damaging than many believe. There are a lot of bad actors out there that would love nothing more than do the equivalent of legal blackmail. This would hinder a lot of companies in their AI pursuits. There is a fight in AI and the US needs to win if we are to remain a dominant force in the future.
