I'm not a huge graphics guy but i am glad they are investing in consistency on the overworld. It's been pretty jarring to go from area to area, some of which haven't been touched for twenty years. Great work!
@@MrDwightSchruteJfc shut up lmao. They’re doing what they can without spending thousands of hours reworking every single piece of content tied to the coordinates.
Please remember to keep ground decorations in like rock piles etc (not the kind that block pathing) having the ground be flat completely can be kinda weird
Yeah, the West Ardougne ground at 0:24 looks a little odd. The path by the grass is great but maybe the colour of the lines under the torchlights are just a little off or something that reduces the contrast. Feels like the pebbles should be in a dark outline rather than a brighter one. Even if the intent is to try and give a 3d "pop up" effect, making them darker and sunken probably would be more consistent like the old "dark cracks on white" texture (0:22).
This is fantastic, I just made a new character on RS3 after playing a league on OSRS for the first time. The game is absolutely beautiful and it actually influences where i like to do my skilling. I was just going through the area yesterday and its a crazy difference. Thank you for your efforts in making the game more appealing overall. I havent dont the waterfall quest yet but after seeing this update it will be on the top of my priority list!
I love the work of Mod Blkwitch and the team. Veteran players who've somehow burned through all the content might scoff at non-content updates but I think these environment refreshes are so healthy for the game and its cohesion
I do agree with some of the others here that some floors look very flat. If there are sporadic paving stones and twigs at 0:37 (and there should be!), they should have a bit of height to them and not be flat. Otherwise I love the height building and rocks! Don't forget to keep existing examine options where possible :)
Looks great guys. I can't wait until yanille gets an update too. It's always felt like a frontier city to me and a refresh will really help that area too.
These are great! Although It's unfortunate the Ardougne buildings didn't get their models updated too, but just a simple texture overhaul. Here's hoping they're going to give it a Falador-style update in the future!
I'm glad to see these folks fixing a major issue with RS. The game just didn't have a cohesive visual identity before. I would argue basically ever since RS3 released in 2013. It's finally all coming together.
Avatars would be a great thing to update, that one thing people first see when making a character and look at for every living moment of their runescape lives.
Some areas that could use a touch up are the lava in the "lava falls" area of Freneskae and the GWD2 Twin Furies boss room has very odd square parts around the edges of the lava.
0:38 this is a really good example of why unique ground textures are needed rather than just copy + pasting the same grass and stone textures across the entire world
Love the new art style, especially the mountains. As others have said, the new grounds have a flat look to them that makes me not as excited about them, but maybe I just need to get used to it. I love everything about this though, keeps the game fresh
Love it! Finally, they are updating an area that needed love. At the same time, they are keeping it original. Can't wait to see what are they going to do with Yanalli
Great job! Updating old areas of the game is really important! I hope that functional minigames like fish flingers (where you cannot rig the outcome) perhaps get updated with a bit better exp rates, and some that are prone to rigging get removed. Other ones that should be updated with better rewards are things like evil trees! Have a wonderful day everyone @ jagex!
I'm a huge fan of these graphical updates to areas to make the game more consistent. I just wish that the player model character got the same treatment as that's the one thing that the players sees the most during their playtime.
@@Wrtvrxgvcf55 Graphics don't look like that in 07, but I get your point. I suppose you could always just play with HDOS, the graphical addon for OSRS based on the 2008 graphics.
I'm very whatever when it comes to graphics, but I think the better part of this graphical update is the detail definition you have going along with the side of it. Kandarin looks beautiful, I'd love to see Morytania's update.
Morytania (well, most of it) had quite a big update around just before RS3 was released, it's nowhere near as bad as some places to be fair. I'd love to see places like Keldagrim get some more attention first.
@@TheMrtrololface I meant more in giving it more definition like in this update. Since a lot of quest traffic goes through there as well, it would be neat to see them flesh out each area. Keldagrim could use some love as well since they have a way to define their rocks better now, but I'm not sure how much you could do there myself.
I dislike the flat "clay" look that is very visable at 0:37, I prefer the original, the small rocks in the original at least give it some more depth instead of one large flat painting as a floor.
Common Mod Blkwitch W. In a more serious note, I loved her position on the work and tools of graphic artists. (any easter egg to find in the reworked areas? like "that" Zamorak painting on ED4 lol)
This was a big thing for me, and (sadly) one of the reasons I quit playing RS. You make amazing content that looks fantastic. No one is denying RuneScape is unique in terms of art style. But like you said, walking from an area like Taverly, Burthorpe, and Catherby to Seer's Village and Ardougne is JARRING with how the overall look of the area just significantly drops in quality. It made a lot of veterans think "Okay, did you just forget this place existed or what?" So good to see this finally being addressed.
Kandarin is one of my favorite sections of the world and was what I considered to be THE member’s area back in the day. So I’m glad it’s finally getting some attention. Honestly, the inconsistent graphical style of RS3 is one of the reasons why I stopped playing a year ago, but I’d love to come back with more of these refreshes. Maybe the Avatar Refresh project will make a return someday.
Thanks to the art team for their great work bringing updates like this, hope we can some day be able to see an updated Daemonheim surface matching or similar to the Wilderness graph rework :D

Beautiful work ! I can't wait to see the final result ! ! In term of comment, I would say that everything you improve is beautiful in term of graphic and sceneries. Mainly in Ardnougne as it's very strange to pass by the player's farm to enter Ardnougne. Keep the great work ! :D
Eventually I'm going to require more than an entry level GPU to get the full experience. No kidding, the "best" card I've bought is what my main rig is still using ~ GeForce 1030 GT from 7 years ago. I'm not sure how to feel about those torches at 0:46. I like the concept of them lighting the gate but somehow it feels like a torch that strong would also light the ground and impact the shadows below it? There's just something a little uncanny going on there. The same goes for the waterfall that seems less translucent at 0:51 - of course that might be reflecting bubbles in the water, but it seems out of place with the new purple colour of the water.
