Not sure how the reanimation worked on Nagato, but compare his looks from when he is with Itachi and after absorbing the lariat. Kisame was also skin and bones, but with bee's chakra he regained his previous looks

Super cool and powerful character, defeated the 8 tailed easily, got betrayed by his weapon, and then fought the only guy that was specifically designed to beat kisame... For being one of the longer lasting, most loyal and coolest, akatsuki, he got done bad.

Actually I think that kisame got him because of future plot. It was a genius strategy for akatsuki that they might have made up on the spot. I don't know if You've watched later episodes so i'm trying not to spoil too much. Then again this fight is over 10 years old so I'm not really sure what's the point.

Would the force of 8-tails overwhelm Kisame or the other way around, because stealing opponent's chakra to make your attack more powerful is some kind of broken bullshit on par with momoshiki and Pain's absorption, which also render chakra based attacks useless

As you rightly said he is very strong, but he himself admits to being inferior to Sasori, for example. On the other hand I have always seen Sasori as practically unbeatable without antidotes available, because it is practically impossible to be able to dodge his every shot.
This fight is what I sincerely applaud kishimoto for. It was needed to show that Kisame is a force to be reckoned with. If the author just thrashed him 3 times against Guy without showing any damage Kisame can inflict, it would've been just sad to watch. In summary Kisame is the strongest akatsuki member in raw power and if You ignore magic eyes that gain abilities as plot progresses. Also he lost to the strongest character in the whole universe(at least before writing went to shit with the use of reincarnations, juubidara and aliens)
Good idea. That episode made me really sad. He didn't deserve to get savagely killed as he did. Since that day, I hated Hidan and was sooo satisfied when Shikamaru litteraly completely destroyed him.
