    Just like the touch of light on the simple beach pole is a perfect surprise, so are your occasional bits of self-deprecating humor. Thank you for your well-articulated guidance on tricky subject matter. I am soaking it all in and, with practice of these techniques, I hope to add an enlivened layer to my landscape work. Cheers.

      @@PaintingSkies1 I had a question about you. I cant help but wonder about your start as an artist. Surely you didnt jump out of bed one day to master clouds and oceans. Did you do pure landscape ever?

      @@mark-dietz My love for landscape painting started when I was an art student (late sixties, early seventies). At the same time I felt a deep connection to the Dutch Wadden Sea and the bordering islands. I simply combined the two. It was as late as the nineties when I picked up my brushes again and started exhibiting my work. In 2004 I quit my teaching job and made a living as a professional painter since then.

    👋Thank you very much, Janhendrik. I like the technique, the clouds appear like out of nowhere, and after finishing your painting looks beautiful and perfect. The pole gives it the icing on the cake. - Have a pleasant week💖

      Thanks, Cora. Yes, in the beginning the clouds are still far removed from the end result, but this approach is very helpful in gettin an overall view quite quickly. Have a pleasant week too!

    Brilliant, Amazing, beautiful! You make it look so effortless, as if everything happens on its own, as if every cloud just appears out of nowhere. I love this technique. I will try it. Thanks, Gabriela! I spent quite a few years painting and that maybe one of the reasons it looks effortless. But I can assure you that there still are many moments when you can find me struggling and telling myself I'm no good...

      @@PaintingSkies1 Thank you for the reply, Janhendrik. See? This is another thing that I admire you for; you are so humble. We are all watching you paint, admiring you, wanting to pain like you, and you say sometimes you tell yourself you're no good. That made me smile. You are amazing, but as you know better than me, there are those moments when nothing seems to come together. Everybody has them. You know how writers sometimes find themselves in front of a blank page and not a word comes to mind. It's the same with anything creative, artistic. Thanks for sharing your gift with your admirers.

    • @PaintingSkies1
      @PaintingSkies1  7 місяців тому

      It's the location below the sun and that's where these soft reddish colors sometimes appear. On top of that, I needed an extra accent in that corner to lead the viewers gaze.

    Is this oil's or acrylic?

    • @PaintingSkies1
      @PaintingSkies1  7 місяців тому

      My paintings are in oil. Occasionally I use an even acrylic base layer when I don’t want to work on a white surface.
      More info in an article on my blog: paintingcloudskies.blogspot.com/2016/08/oils-and-acrylics.html.
      If you find the time you could read the comment on the article of an acrylic painter (Gayle) with lots of tips to apply the glazing technique with acrylics.
