Thanks for the video! Have to change the lower control arms on my Mazda 6 2013, and all the other examples I've seen on UA-cam has been removed from cars with almost no rust etc and no problems removing the bolts. So nice to see a repair on a car that probably compares to my own after years of driving on salted winter roads 👌
That's the only reason I started my channel. Got tired of seeing that myself.

I feel like heating the low arm control while there are rubber element nearby is not a good choice. I would try spraying WD40 first.
Thank you for the video! Had a battle with the ball joints as mentioned so thanks for preparing me for that!

Great explanation! I was thinking releasing the ball joint was going to be harder and need the air hammer. Now thinking I can do this one myself. Thanks

I'm not a mechanic or a technician but, where did the bushing go? I feel like more bushing like skateboard bushings with the caps on top and bottom. Could that work? Great job by the way
my 2014 CX5 just failed roadworthy test here in Ireland for TRACK ROD END DUST COVER! Is that the same as a steering rack boot cover?
Honestly I've never even heard if that. Sorry
Great Video. I too have a 2013 CX-5. Took it in for a front brake pad and rotor replacement. After road test the mechanic said he heard a light clicking and thought it might be a bad control arm. Didn't say which side noise came from. Said they would need to do a diagnostic test ($160) to determine.. Said the car is driveable.. Can't they just look at the control arm to determine? Appreciate any insight..
It will be very hard to determine without a lift. I suggest trying out another shop. The fact that they are telling you all of that money just to diagnose is a little ridiculous so I would definitely try somewhere else. Clicking could be steut mounts. Control arm play. Jack it up and start feeling for any type of play. i hope this video helps. feel free to like and subscribe for more & if you can, please help the channel out by giving a super thanks. That clicking noise is your drive shaft and the boots may have punchered or rotted . Water, rain and dirt gets in there but if you get to it soon enough you could save it
I'm doing this job now! Did you have any trouble lining up the ball joints? Driver side lined up easily but for some reason the passenger is at a really tough angle and having a lot of trouble reseating it. Any tips would be greatly appreciated
I do them so often I can kind of judge the angle by looking at it so it lines right up with the knuckle. i hope this video helps. feel free to like and subscribe for more & if you can, please help the channel out by giving a super thanks. I just did driver side last night on my daughters 2015. And I'm here to tell you lining up that ball joint was a PIA! I needed to move the car so I could close garage door for the night. I was abt to give up when I needed to get the wheel on and straight to roll it back. I removed the front bolt then inserted the ball joint. The front bushing did not reach all the way thru to insert bolt but bushing was in the slot. Put wheel on, lowered the jack and heard a clunk. Looking under at the front mount, it went right into place. Had to line up the bushing with a long punch but bolt went in and I tightened everything up. Now the passenger side is another day! Video makes it look so easy, when really it looked like the key in this video it turn wheel full left, align ball joint to knuckle. Guess I will take that approach on the other side and see how it goes.
Anythingauto, The poster was asking for any tips, but you didn't offer any, other than your response of having done them so often you just know the angle. Don't see how that was helpful. Otherwise the video was great for us driveway mechanics.
Do you recommend an alignment afterward?
100% yes. i hope this video helps. feel free to like and subscribe for more & if you can, please help the channel out by giving a super thanks. I was hoping to find out the torque on the bolts for the control arm, and if any of them are to be tightened down with the tire back on and on ground. Please help
I can't help you there. Order a manual and go from there. If i cannot get the info free i post it but some cars i cant get. i hope this video helps. feel free to like and subscribe for more & if you can, please help the channel out by giving a super thanks.
