I do hope you keep the bloopers coming when you get into your studio Louise or maybe you wont make any there in your little piece of heaven. Dom you're a champion thanks for looking after Louise. Louise this painting as always a credit to you, I am a pelican lover and can happily sit for hours on a beach taking photos, but I have never seen such gorgeous colours before...thank you🥰🤗
Thank you Deanna. We have been getting a lot of rain lately- almost daily thunderstorms. I'm glad because hopefully it will help us to avoid those catastrophic fires in summer.
Thanks for sharing the videos of the home place. You live a in very beautiful area that actually , (even though very different in many ways) but still reminds me of my home in the foot hills of the Appalachian mountains in the US. Farm land, rolling hills, wooded but yet grassy. Thank you also for your detailed lessons. Your explanations are clear and I like that you tell us why you are doing this or that along with your thought processes. You can be a great artist but not a good teacher. You are both. T.D.
4, 5 hours! That's how long it takes me to get going in the morning. You are amazing Louise! So happy to hear that Don is in charge of the studio. No better man for the job!
Five hours! Did I hear that right? I am so impressed by your work. I love rewatching these. I always discover something new. Hope your studio is coming along nicely.
Love you bird and tell Don to be very careful doing you new Studio. Can’t wait to see it finished. Thank you for all your beautiful painting classes you have helped me so much. My husband thinks he is sleeping in an art Gallery now.
Brilliant painting, as always, Louise! Thanks for sharing all you learned as you painted this lovely creature three times! Please be ever so careful as you and Dom build that studio. We're all so eager for it to be completed, but we also want you both to stay safe!
Watching you has taught me patience and slowing down. Detailed drawing is one thing I need to work on. Your paintings are stunning. Thank you. Glad you are getting a big studio.
This is just amazing! It would probably take me 4 to 5 years! You’d make a great flight attendant with your indications of the “back”! Love your bloopers ….always have to wait for them!
Hello miss Louise, thankyou for this one.I've been following you since the day I found your channel about a month ago. Im loving your technique and patience in doing painting. Im a watercolor artist too not by profession but a hobby at heart.I havent painted one since lastyear as I got hooked and got very busy at work and family afterwards but whenever I see you videos I feel inspired and wanted to make one too soon. Thankyou so much for sharing.-from your biggest fan here in Dumaguete city negros Oriental Philippines 🙂 stay safe miss keep inspiring🙂
Wonderful painting, love watching the feathers. Please document with video clips of the studio as you progress. My husband is interested in watching too! The two of you are terrific.
I loved the video and really liked the out takes at the end. You are so cool. Good luck to you and Dom on the construction of your new studio. Can’t wait to see the finished studio.
So beautiful! I love the detail that you put into your work and could watch you paint feathers for hours, someday I hope to get the hang of it. Thank you for sharing this tutorial with us. Good luck with your studio!
Fabulous Louise, I just love Pelicans, and I love yours. I look forward to your full video to have a go at this one. How Wonderful to see your studio taking shape, you wont know yourself having your own space. Im sure it will be amazing!
That's beautiful Louise. I'm going to ask the nurse if I can watch vids while hooked to the infusion pump. Anything to shorten the chemo sessions...might as well learn something while at it.
I have always adored your "Angel Wings" pelican, and the print I ordered from you is one of my favorite framed pieces on my walls! I look forward very much to being able to try this somewhat simpler version. As always, you are adorable in presenting your bloopers, and I always share those with my husband so that he can share some giggles with me! You bring such happiness, thank you! 💜💛💚
Oooooo love this one... as always. Birds and details and pink.. what more could you ask for! Such fun to paint and lovely reference to work from. I have dozens of pelican photos and spoonbills and herons and and and... you inspire me to drag them out and not get bogged down in too many details. Just enough! 4 or 5 hours??? I died laughing... my latest painting has used up 11 hours JUST drAwing it. 18x29 so quite large, but I will count the hours just for fun. I am super slow painter...but I enjoy the journey. SO glad you ditched that builder! He did not DESERVE to be brought back. Yay Dom! It is going to be fabulous! So happy for you and please keep sharing progress. Your groupies love a peek into your life.🤣🤣🤣. Hugs from Texas. Finally nice and chilly. Ahhhh sweaters.
Beautiful. I learn so much from each of your videos, tutorials and classes. Down the road if you have a chance I'd love a tutorial on painting a hawk, I love these noble birds.
I love the pelicans! You truly are a superb instructor - thank you! (Sometime, would you mention if after cleaning a watercolor brush, can one hang it upside down OR is horizontally drying the only appropriate way? Thanks very much.
Thanks Patty. I have read that hanging them upside is a good way of drying them because the water doesn't accumulate in the ferrule. Drying horizontally is what I do most of the time. Because I use them a lot they lie on my table until the next painting session.
Dear Louise, you're my favourite teacher! The first artwork that I tried to recreate was the wonderful flamingo in orange and pink, that was a pure joy to create from start to finish. I sometimes do not understand what you mean by wetting in sections. For instance, if you have to colour in a huge base wash or layer, that wouldn't work, right? Since there would be hard lines showing as soon as the two areas touch or overlap. Maybe you're referring to just areas, where the colour won't overlap? Best of luck with your studio, hope you can finish it soon! Much love from Austria!
On one of the videos you asked for help with finding the paper you used, well it’s in Tennessee and it’s named Blick . Just typed it in my phone and it came up.
Hi Louise, yet another awesome of recreating natures finest. Truly I love seeing these painting coming together. I wonder, have you ever painted without a reference pic? You know, like from imagination, or memory? Please don't feel like I'm putting pressure on you, that's never my aim, I'm simple curious. Tat's how I paint most of the time. Nothing I produce is classy or clever, painting is just a release for me, I love doing it, and am always unhappy with the end result. Having said that, I never dispose of any,, because, they help with my memory. Remembering to day and it's events, my mood at the time, people that I was with on the day, the mental state, what was on my heart, all kinds of things because every image produces will carry hidden info for me alone that's invisible to onlookers. A bit like a coded diary with words. Anyway dear lady, I'm stunned again by the intricate details that give your subjects character and life. I have to ask myself at time whether you use a wand, or is that truly a brush in your hand guided by divine assistance. When the truth is right before me all along. I'm done here for now. Thank you Louise. Til the next time, it's TTFN.
Ah Louise if you dont succeed as a painter (LOL) you could always become a stand up comedien...oh thats right you already are!!! Both actually.. you are amazing!! Treasure your wife Dom she's a keeper!! And in hindsight you both did an awesome job on that studio.. cheers from WA
This is gorgeous, Louise, and I’m looking forward to the Patreon tutorial! Would you share your thought process behind why you chose Rose Dore over one of your usual quinacridones?
Thank you Kelle. I wanted a pink with yellow undertones (a coral colour I suppose). On the first two I mixed some yellow into Permanent Rose which worked ok but it wasn't quite what I wanted. Rose Dore was the colour I was looking for without having to mix it.
Hi Louise. Love your style of watercolor. Have you ever painted a Christmas poinsettia? The holidays are coming up and I thought that would be a perfect time for a video of that flower. What do you think? Or, do you already have a video of a poinsettia painting?
Thank you Larry. Yes I have painted a poinsettia a few years ago. I didn't film it though. That was when I was working in the licensing industry. That's a good suggestion for a Christmas themed painting tutorial. Thank you again!
@@LouiseDeMasi I am sure a lot of your followers would enjoy a poinsettia this time of year. I am a "Hobby Painter" and I am watching your videos for more tips and techniques. You produce a quality video presentation. Thank you.

One tiny request: would you consider listing the colours you use in the video description with the pigment numbers for those of us who don't use Winsor and Newton watercolour? I, personally, would find that really helpful.
We have highly technological prefabricated homes or other sorts of buildings in wood, which are set up extremely quickly; they are also fire-safe. Are they not in use in Australia? Few weeks are enough for a regular house 🤗
Hi teacher Louis, I almost watched all your videos all the painting looks so beautiful I really want to learn how to draw and paint, before I buy anything I would like to ask teacher what brushes and painting you have? I like to buy same as you have. Thanks
Wow Louise! This is stunning 🤩 I love the limited palette, it’s really effective. How do you go about choosing your colours? Is it instinctive or do you try different things out before you start? I’d be really interested to know. Thank you for another wonderful video. Take care 😊
Thank you Sarah. That's a question that keeps popping up. It's mainly instinctive for me. There's no method to my madness so it's not something I can explain easily. Because I have been asked over and over how I choose colours I've been writing down my thoughts as they pop into my head so hopefully I can put together a video about it one day.
Thank you. When I first started in watercolour I mainly used Winsor & Newton Cotman brushes. They were fairly inexpensive and I used them for about 4 or 5 years until I switched to better brushes. I use mainly round brushes.
This is stunning Louise! what brand is the Rose Gold paint - I have never heard of it before (another one on my 'to buy' list!) I like that you don't try to individually, in greater detail, paint all the feathers - I love the subtle look. Hope to have a go on this one - not sure I am upto it yet though . . . Thanks Nettie. It's called Rose Dore by Winsor & Newton. A pretty rose colour with yellow undertones. I checked the pronunciation on the internet and I tried to say Olvier and Guillard with a French accent- it came out as a garbled mess. 😝
Haha! Just think of Laurence Olivier. W&N are playing on D'Or - 'golden' and have produced a Rose Gold - how clever as it's so popular these days, esp with jewellery and watches. Of all the paints I use - I always return to W&N. I think the Guillard is pronounced 'Gee -yar' G and no real sound of the 'll' - bit difficult to describe - being so close to France we tend to hear it more: doubt you hear much French in Australia . . and it doesn't matter really does it! Your wonderful painting is what matters!
