I lived this, sadly we will never experience this again, if you weren't around when the Jackson Five had heyday you truly missed out on a once in a lifetime experience...
I once sat in front of a of their house in Gary, Indiana & I also saw them perform here in Detroit at the Joe Louis Arena! They were absolutely AMAZING!!👌🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
This rendition of Never Can Say Goodbye is their best one ever. I'm saving this one to my playlist The Flip Wilson Show was one of my favorites to watch every week, and in fact, was where I saw the J5 perform for the first time... ❤ ❤ ❤
Can't get enough of this amazing performance of Jackson 5 , the best boy band to ever existed , their iconic Jackson medley is a phenomenon to this day and many many years to come ❤️👑
Flip Wilson was a comedic genius. He was actually a front runner so many comedians who came after him. Check the skit he did with Redd Foxx. They was so hilarious 😂 together.
I was 10 yrs old when this aired back in ‘71. We had no way of knowing today’s music for the most part would suck, and be recorded using auto tune. 😂There’s just no way.
J5 was a amazing young group, Joseph Jackson was going to have Jermaine to be lead singer of the group, but mother Katharine told Joseph to listen to Michael singing, she had been listening to Michael, that's how he got to become lead vocalist over the group. Thank you mother Katharine for bringing that to Joseph's attention. I remember looking at a interview Michael was telling how he became the leader of the group, RIP to Michael and Tito ❤
I dont know what it is. Yet between these three songs: *_The Love You Save, Never Can Say Goodbye, & I'll Be There_* performing young, as a teen, or grown man, Micheal Jackson had an aura of energy that reads: I'm about to show you all how I gets down.
It’s so wild to think that it was 53 yrs ago has a kid me and my siblings was watching this Flip Wilson Show when the Jackson 5ive was on. Those brothers was just so good. I remember seeing them on so many other verity shows. The J5 was a big part of my childhood. So many great memories. And it was Jermaine who inspired me to pick the bass. RIP Michael, Tito. Y’all’s legacy will be enjoyed by generations to come. 🙏🏾🎼🎼🎤🎸
Awesome video clip, different era for sure. Only three channels, no cable and band families were definitely a trend, The Jackson 5, The Osmond's, The Carpenters. And there were spinoff cartoon series, The Jackson 5 had their own. Michael Jackson easily emerged as the most talented performer from that time. Funny to see him as a little kid, I don't think anyone knew that he would continue to grow and evolve into the musical pioneer that he eventually became.
I was 4 years old when this came on I remember these shows n Jackson 5 coming on these songs were hits then they were going platinum then! This is what makes Micheal Jackson soooo Iconic he never stopped making hits . His voice was sooo good as a kid everybody remembers Jackson 5 songs. ABC, never can say goodbye, the love you save might be your own, Ben etc. Micheal was an extra ordinary talent at a very young age! This is why he n his brothers are historical, iconic, and legendary there’s very few groups that have been in the business for this long and thriving or known. Jackson 5 is like the Temptations,Beatles!!! Or The Rolling Stone and they were on a historical label Motown!!! They’ve been entertaining for 50 plus years!!! R.I.P Micheal,Tito Jackson, n Joe Jackson. 🙏🙏🙏
Jackson Five was my very first concert Spectrum in Philly PA I was about 12 😂 It was awesome. The next as a young adult working Victory tour I went twice.
They were Truly captivating. I remember the show when Oprah went on a date with Jackie. She said that she always had a crush on him. When he walked out... She Never look at Stedman that way😂😂😂. It's like she was flustered. They are Still in All our hearts ❤. I remember watching the cartoon as a kid. It's so funny how he came back to Marlon. Flip was Everything ❤
I am wondering how much of the music are they really hearing. The group is clearly lip singing and I don't know how much Michael is actually singing. I mean, the two brothers playing the electric guitars did not even plug in the cord.
I wish I could have experienced the Jacksons live and in real time along with everybody else and not in syndication, but i was only seven months old at the time.😢
If u look carefully @4:00 you'll see Joe and Katherine Jackson clapping for their talented kids. Also, behind them to the left in sunglasses is their A&R the fab Suzanne DePasse! ....Ahh memories...🥹
I was one who was the same age as Michael so this is really a special memory. We were all beyond proud of Michael and his brothers! He and Tito are gone now but their legacy will live on through all those who loved them and their offspring will carry on. As Michael would say way back then... "With a Child's Heart, Nothing to Worry". Always J5!
It aches my heart to see Michael here & then turning to what he ultimately did before he left the planet. I was the BIGGEST Michael Jackson fan & idolized this dude until the veneer of his celebrity was lifted. Similar thing with Bill Cosby...oh well, at I guess we'll have to celebrate the art from the artist(s) in BOTH instances.
Can you believe all? They had was a lead & base guitar with keyboard & drums them boys were bad.PS is it just me, or do they clothes?Still look fly in 2024 ?
@nycfunk on the flip wilson show the music was done live you can tell lip sync over a live band playing very easily now, soul train & american bandstand 99% percent of their artists lip synced i think I heard it was because of cost
@@erickthefantabulous1 sorry but you are just just so wrong. The drummer dropped one stick. That you can see for yourself. The next song you hear the drummer play 16th note rhythm on the high-hat, but the drummer only has one stick. What you see and what you hear doesn't match up. The singing could be live, but the music is not. Besides...in the second segment you see them singing without a band, but you hear music. Motown always re-re order thier music for live tapings on shows like Ed Sullivan (see all the Supremes, Temptations, and Four Tops appearances. Sonny and Cher, Carol Burnett shows, and other variety shows of that Era. Also on one of the songs you hear the guitar play the line with a Wawa, but if you look Tito has no Wawa pedal on the floor.
@nycfunk they're playing live instruments. Man, what do you mean whether they per-recorded it or not? They're playing live instruments i hear what you're saying, which could be true. That's nothing but a slight technicality
@@erickthefantabulous1 This is the first thing you've said that was correct. All of my examples are technical, while yours are based on what...? 0n your believes?!?!? I've been a professional musician for close ti 45 years, and have performed on television, both live and to pre-recorded tracks. I know the difference when I see it or hear it. The magic of television coupled with your admiration of the J5 has your judgement slightly twisted. Don't believe everything you hear or see on television. They have been in the business of creating fantasies for generations.
Back in those days there was no VCR or anything to record the shows so all you had was the memory of the performances until rerun season to catch it again. I don’t remember this show being repeated.

Damn I think that is Joe Jackson in the audience with Katherine at 4:00😳I bet was Joe was laughing in the background saying "that's right Flip. He's gonna Mike how to be a man and not be soft. There ain't no soft Jackson boys." smh!
I don't know what the "play" was supposed to be about at the 6 min mark but him grabbing Micheal by the collar is not funny business to me. Nothing about that little skit of this guy playing an entitled bully gives me the chuckles one bit. Notice how even during the play while everyone is laughing at him pretending to be angry at Micheal, he is uncomfortable while the crowd is laughing at none other than the act of being bullied. ?? I agree with you. I’m 61 years old. I grew up in Gary, IN. I got a chance to see their start to stardom . ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️❤

What a wonderful memory of the Jackson 5. I was in love with all of them, especially Jermaine. Thanks for the upload.
