- Today I am presenting you with the Going back to Indiana TV special from 1971. A really nicely done special I must say. In some parts you will hear that the audio quality is exceptionally better. That is because some songs/parts of the special have been officially released and I used them on the video to overall enhance the quality.

Epilogue
I have a question. For feeling alright marlon’s voice is deep when he sings his part but when he says do you want Michael to tell you his voice is like a normal kid
Incredible!! Tito and Jermaine handled theirs for real!! And the dancing three…tight! Vocals?…what else needs to be said? Icons for sure!
@@MambaVFX That was Jackie, Jermaine and Michael switching off lead on “Feeling Alright”, not Marlon.
The energy, vocals he got and stage presence even as a kid always blows my mind

I remember when this came on t.v. on channel 7 in New York City in 1971 there wasn’t a kid to be found outside, everyone was home getting ready for The Going Back To Indiana Concert to come on. This was was a BIG EVENT when I was coming up I’m glad I got the opportunity to experience it with my Brother.
I know what you mean! We had a small bedroom. It was about 15 kids piled up in there to watch it.
J5 was rapping back in 1971... not at a level acknowledged today, but the b-ball segment is clear evidence, right!!!?!?¡.
Facts
@@addis.temari Yes, But when you can sing you don’t have to rap.
I wasn’t nowhere near alive when this gem came out but just hearing about how kids would all gather for something exciting about to be released takes me back to my childhood! I miss the days of epic releases!
That intro to "Walk On" is the smoothest routine EVER!!!!!!!!! J5 Rule
Cold Blooded...!
Facts 🔥👏🏾👏🏾 still get chills like the first time I saw it
63 yrs old now and i remeber watching this on T.V. in Hackensack N.J. good memories.
Damn, Jermaine and Tito don't get nearly enough credit for their chops. Amazing players.
Jermaine has an awesome soulful voice
OMG, I just commented the SAME EXACT THING about Jermaine bass playing bcuz that boy is BAD!!!
@@storiking650 but you guys do know in the studio that's not him playing bass doing those early 70s
@@RonaldWilliams-qh7zc Most people know by now that Berry didn't let them play on the recordings but it is also known that they did perform LIVE on every tour and for Jermaine to replicate those Jamerson bass lines live onstage while singing and dancing is nothing short of amazing!
@@storiking650
I’m a bass player u are so right👍🏾
I saw this on TV, maybe once but I had this album as a child, and knew the whole album front to back even the skits. Still do lol Never will there be a more innocent time as back then
Me too 🎉
The Jackson 5 could’ve been The Jackson 6 if they would’ve let Janet in the group. She was just as talented. This show was a bit before my time, but I still enjoyed watching it.
Me too.
@jasonlassiter9229 Janet was too young. Even Randy, who's older wasn't added until later.
Yes, indeed. I saw this as a child too ❤❤
I remember seeing this on tv back in 1971. It was the greatest thing I had ever seen. J5 fever at it's height.
Yep. Jacksonmania!
My sister watched this actual special when it aired!!! My sister was a teenager and I was a pre-teen and our mother told us if we wanted to watch it we had to take our baths first so we would be ready for bed after we watched it, It was so hard to go to sleep after a show performance like that!!! That's all we could talk about the next dayd at school. Then for Christmas our parents bought us the soundtrack and I played it and sang along almost all Christmas Day!!! It was so exciting!!!
MJ is so amazing
Marlon jackson
never knew how well Tito and Jermaine played thier instruments
Sang, and stayed on step!!!

have you found out if theres any footage of the full show yet? i saw the actual set list and saw that they performed i found that girl and i would love to see that song performed in this show
Thank you brother ❤️
No MJ fanbase aint dead 😊 we're still here 🤘✌️
This is so fantastic! Seeing it with all the original commercials originally included would be a real treat - so rare to get to watch things from the 70s the way viewers at home would’ve seen them. Any way to see it unedited? Would be so incredible!

The concert should be put in a capsule and sent into space. Aliens should see this masterpiece.

I still remember watching this special when I was in K grade.
I love the comments. They were incredible. I was 8 years old in 71. Thank you Jacksons!
I was 6 year's old in the first grade and remember this. ❤️

Thank you so much for showing this. I've never seen this so clear . I've seen it third generation copy . Thank YouAGAIN !!!!!+
The guitar at 4:01 is so amazing. I love it. You can hear hints of the same style in Beat It
Believe it or not I have known the ENTIRE rap to the basketball game since I was a young child! I still know it today😂❤
Michael gives me a big smile I love all his song at this age I just love him imagine this cutie became the biggest star in the world 🌎
Can't deny the talent
Wow!! I just relived my childhood just by watching this!! I remember having a cassette tape of this show!! So nostalgic 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
The bill cosby intro should have been burned
That's one serious part in Bill Cosby's hair!!

I'm glad you liked it 😁
Thanks. This made my day, never seen this before..
Watching this now on TV. Thank you for this vid. ♡
One of my favs
Wow i didn't know Tito was such a good guitar player
9:49
Jermaine: Leroy? I’m Jermaine.
They performed in these same costumes live in concert in 1971.
I had this on vinyl back in the 70s. My two younger brothers and I could recite it word for word. Lol
God bless and thank you for this stupendous upload, what a wonderful and great , great performance, they really worked hard and their efforts, sacrifice, and so heir talents paid - off, truly a wonderful group of young guys , smart, and very talented, gifted with their gifts to perform, sing, dance and play instruments. Very well done. God bless the Jackson Family Always.
Thank you for this!! I had this album as a kid and for some reason thought about it the other day. I found it on iTunes and it brought back so many memories I thought that someone must have put this on UA-cam. Listening to the album...I remembered EVERY word!! Thanks again!! 😀
We love you Michael Jackson rest in peace
Hey there I just want to thank you so much for posting this on your channel. You have brought so many great memories back for me with doing this. What a wonderful show it really was and Michael was very sweet along with his brothers. The amazing talent he had as at a young age singing live in front of thousands of people was electric. Thanks again and take care and I hope you post more as you seem to be not as active. God bless xx
We need a Jackson 5 concert it’s about time
So Nice 😻☺️
Thank you for posting this
Thank you so much for this.
Thanks for such wonderful memories!
Great upload. Thanks for posting.
This is excellent!
He's so cute
Thank you for this video
My favorite group….best boy band ever!!!Hey but I hate they don’t do the original Maybe Tomorrow….Tito has a longer guitar section like on the record but they always cut it. The original show he played that long version. Still love this though!!!J5 forever!!!!!!!!
Tito's not playing on the record and those rehearsal scenes it's behind a backing track, him nor Jermaine played on any of the studio versions while under Motown
I realize you are probably programed to only like michael, but the point is both Tito and Jermaine played very well at all of their shows. BEST BOY BAND EVER!! JACKSON FIVE!!!!!@@GaryTisdaleFungkSta1
I miss growing up in those times the whole world was a better place to live in comparison to today in 2023 The world is so corrupt and evil
I remember seeing this J5 show clip in 1971 at only 6 yrs old born in 1965.... Saturday morning cartoons were the best and a magical time to be a kid.
Thank You! 👊
Needs more views
Very awesome live footage especially, and great crowd shots. I remember as a kid then, the J5 were unbelievably popular. On top of all the talent, you gotta have songs, and they definitely had songs. Cute Diana cameo at 32:54.
You gotta give Tito and Jermaine mad props to play, sing, and still be on dance beat too??? Dope!!!
This is an awesome find! Thanks so much for sharing, I've been a Jackson 5 fan since I was a kid in the late 60s/early 70s and their Christmas album has been a favorite since I got it at age 9 when it was released. My children love that album today as well. Thanks!
I miss MJ
such a cute baby

Rip To The King Of Music Michael Jackson, Still Miss You, Always 😢
I love the Jackson 5 forever and ever and ever ever 🥰❤️🖤💚✊🏾❤️🖤💚
🤔Many times I've seen this concert, first time noticing Jermaine playing "Stand" with a pick cause always knew he ripped playing overhand (finger style), slapping he's aw ight but first time seeing him playing with a pick though
Michael Jackson my very first crush. 😍
I recall as a kid, watching this LIVE that evening..
Our parents let us go to the COW PALACE in San Francisco to see the concert💥💕🚀🌍😊🎵🎼🎤🎶🌁‼️
I remember this show! Loved this as a kid! Guess I've really gotten old! 🤷🏾♂️
SENSATIONAL!
I remember watching this TV special back when i was 7 years old. I now have the DVD. This is PRIME J-5!
greatnesss pure greatness the Jackson 5
Jermaine is awesome.. singing and playing great bass lines. Feeling Alright is the best version I have heard.. I can see why my sister (who saw the first J5 tour live) was more into Jermaine than his younger brother Michael.
Feelin' Alright is my favorite J5 song. They were absolutely incredible. Unbelievable.
In the late 60s, early 70s, motown had it on lock for TV specials with their top singing performers. I saw this live, but I don't hardly remember it. The one with diana ross definitely remember seeing that live probably eight or nine years old
47:06 you can hear inflections of Adult Michael Jackson ❤
They were rappin ' and didn't even know it. 🎤👈
The Jackson 5ive were God's to me.
Young Jermaine was killin' it on that bass!!!!

Michael Jackson sounded country when he was young before they reprogrammed him.
The Jackson got love for basket ball 🏀
This is the EPITOME of MODESTY!!!
THE ONLY TIME MOTOWN LET THEM PLAY THEIR OWN INSTRUMENTS............!!!!
The Indiana concert was all the way live but the rehearsal was backing tracks, like I Want You Back, you can hear there's bout 3 guitar parts going on and Tito was mostly playing the octave riff
@@GaryTisdaleFungkSta1 There's a rehearsal available somewhere for this particular concert?

15:25 gosh so adorable
Reality check time: 1. At 6:08 You can hear the bass but see that Jermaine is not actually playing it as his right hand is completely off the instrument. (I wonder what Joe had to say about that afterward) 2. The bass line is not by Jamerson. A sax player wrote and played it on the recording session (I forget the player's name). However, the bass line is considered one of the best in pop music.
For specials and tv appearances they didn’t actually play there instruments and they lip synced. For the actual concert tho they where actually playing and singing, jermaine is a great vocal and bassist.
