  • Every wonder what an anchor looks like underwater when its setting? Here is a segment on setting the anchor in sand in the Bahamas. We find the Rocna sets very quickly and holds very well. It just works - and works very well.

Excellent ""real world" video demo. Good to see someone actually using the proper scope too, instead of scoping times three and then wondering why the anchor doesn't work.

When we bought this boat we found out it was a Rocna and were so happy about it. Would like to get one a bit bigger for more severe weather, either another Rocna or a Mantus. Great video, and Such a great design.

We have the 73# Rocna on our 44' catamaran motor yacht (powercat). Have had it in very bad storms and holds tighter than any other anchor we've ever used. Have watched other boats drag the bottom arcoss a harbor, but we sit tight.

We bought a Rocna 10 kg for our Macgregor 26 this year and used it about 20 times. Very impressed with how it sets in the coarse sand to weedy/muddy bottoms in our lake. Wind often switches later in the day in the mountain valley, so we've had the boat swing from getting 20 kn from the west to 20 kn from the east in the space of 10 minutes - the anchor seems to handle this no problem. (Unfortunately I don't have video evidence like you do!) The amount of mud that comes up with the anchor is sometimes astonishing (and heavy!)
Great production quality on your videos also - I just found your channel tonight, and will definitely be going through a lot of it! So far I've enjoyed a few about the Bahamas, an area I would really like to take my family.
    Best regards,

Good video. The thing I liked about my Rocna was that it held fast while the wind went around the compass during severe storms. My old plough would have pulled out an slid along on its side. The only downside of this type of anchor is cleaning it off after anchoring on a muddy bottom.

Exactly!! Except I do think all anchors come up muddy Unless they aren't working in mud. :-)

Definitely worth upgrading esp if you have an old design. Sleep better on the hook!

I use a 55kg Rocha as the main anchor on our 65’ Viking Sportfish, it is just about or I should say the best anchor I have ever used. Actually in heavy wind loading scenarios I get a bit worried that I’ll never get it out of the bottom as it digs in so well sometimes I have great trouble getting it out of the bottom.

The Rocna really does hold well, Sean. So glad you have had good experiences with it too.

Hello, thanks for the video. How easy is it to weigh the Ultra anchor, given that it digs deep in the sand?

So u have to check whether anchor is properly set up or not.... ??

We have a Shannon 43 ft sailboat, and we purchased the 55lb Rocna (Vulcan) anchor. Do you think it’s heavy enough?
    Thx!

We’re going to test a Rocna Vulcan on the new boat. Seems like a good anchor

Awesome demo. Do you know of any video demos out there showing the anchor re setting when the boat swings 180 degrees? I have a danforth and always wondered how it resets when my boat swings and the rode pulls on it in the opposite direction. Great channel!

I would worry about the danforth resetting... I know our Rocna does this well. Here is a link to my anchoring blog FYI www.distantshores.ca/boatblog_files/category-anchoring.php

I just picked up the 44lb/20 for my 36’ 36 Westerly Corsair Pirate King. Do you think that will do it?.

Awesome, thank you. We just went through some 30 knot wins and nothing happened. The anchor Alarm said we stayed right where we dropped. I’m more than sure when she come about the anchor re-adjusted itself. But it had to have done it within the length of the anchor it self. Just held like a beast. Most impressive.

Hi, I have the same anchor but I never reverse onto it, it will set itself with the pull f the boat, using your engine is not necessary.

    • @PhilbyFavourites

      I beg to differ.
As a powerboat instructor WE ALWAYS instruct (National Curriculum based) the student to hold tick over astern for 5 seconds to gently drive the anchor into the sea bottom and check transits for holding. The weight of the boat will NOT set the anchor, if you are anchoring in an area of high tidal flow or higher winds that will give you some reverse pressure on the anchor, but still to set it you must engage astern to dig it in.

Seems a shame to damage an important habitat such as sea grass.
