I quit 26 days ago. After a bout with severe anxiety and panic attacks I had enough. I had no clue how high and sensitive my nervous system was every day until I quit. Caffeine is a seriously bad thing for people to consume.
Yup. 👍 Glad you found life improvement. There can be enough anxiety in life with adding to it with caffeine IMO. 🙂
Yes, it’s a neurotoxin. People need to treat it as a serious drug, and stop giving it to children. I laugh when posh caffeine-addicts scoff at medicinal/marijuana users
Same with me: I am very sensitive to it. Life is better without caffeine.
I also have panic attacks! But staying quit with coffee is so hard for me. I try and keep trying because i want to free myself of it!
I also had enough.
I had anxiety problems because of caffeine. Since I gave up my emotions regularized and I feel relaxed every day.
Same here! 🙂
Same
Same here ❤
Happy for you man! On day 104 of quitting caffeine myself. Best life decision I have ever made.
How do you feel?
Amazing! Are you still continuing?
@@sara.space94 Yep, I stopped tracking but should be around 8-9 months caffeine free! Feeling great has become the nee norm.
I'm glad to hear from someone who isn't a 20-something talking about this (I'm 65 next month). And I appreciated your calm, non-judgemental delivery of the message. A refreshing change.
Thank you. 🙂👍
I’m 60 and just have it up
Body aches for 5 days couldn’t sleep and now I feel good
It takes will power to do anything. While serving on Polaris submarines in the US Nay in the late 60s I smoked, drank alcohol. The navy always kept two HUGE pots of coffee going 24/7 to keep us all wired and on top of the edge. When I left the Navy 1972 I cold turkey the smokes, but not the coffee and booze. When I hit my 50s I gave up drinking but keept drinking the caffeine. Then one day I had a prostrate issue where I could hardly pee. It was then I finally figured out how caffeine affected my issues. So I went from 3 pots of coffee a day to a couple of cups. Now at 75 I have learned to regulate a single cup of coffee in the AM and not have another for 3 days. I enjoy the one cup even more now then ever and not spend so much time on the piss pot. It's all about balance, it's like fine tuning an old carburetor on a car, but also takes will power so you control the substance and not the substance controlling you
One does not "give up" caffeine; one gets rid of it. Same for alcohol, nicotine and sugar. As long as you believe you are "sacrificing" you'll go back to it.
Such an important point to make and rarely is it made. Alan Carr,of course made this point over and over in his books...but I like you're short little phrase,"get rid of"!
@@Janice060813 Yes. It's about mental positioning. If your position is that you are 'giving something up' then you believe you are making a sacrifice. No self-respecting subconscious mind ever wants to 'lose' something. Same goes for weight reduction: if you think you are 'giving up' that piece of pie, you are telling your mind that you are a 'loser' and it will come back with a vengeance. Instead. tell yourself you are getting rid of unhealthy foods that make you fat, open the door to a host of systemic diseases, and kill you before your time. 😀
Good point. I thought like that with alcohol but hadn’t thought about that relating to caffeine as ‘getting rid’ was no big deal with caffeine as I viewed it more as reducing anxiety.
I think I’m trying to build a life I don’t want to escape from rather than living a life I feel I need to medicate in some way. 🙂
Totally agree
You don't get rid of caffeine. It's still going to be all around you, until you die. You choose to live a different life.
I gave up coffee over 40 years ago. As a youngster, I noticed it made me incredibly wired, even in small quantities, and gave me heart palpitations. Obviously, I was sensitive to caffeine. I continued to drink tea without discernable consequences until a relative gave me a cup of tea made with two bags containing a strong blend which was very well stewed. I drank this and immediately felt sick to my stomach, came out in a cold sweat and suffered a nasty panic attack. That was 20 years ago and I haven't had a full cup of tea since. In my line of work, accepting the offer of a cup of tea from a customer at their house is a good way of getting rid of them so that I can concentrate on solving the issue they are paying me for. Now, I really like the taste of caffeinated tea, and when the tea arrives, I'll have a token sip, out of nostalgia more than anything, and even that one sip gives me a kick. So the older I've got, the more sensitive to caffeine I've become to its effects.
I think people who suffer with even mild anxiety would be well advised to do a 30day experiment and cut out all forms of caffeine. It can be life changing.
I recently stopped drinking coffee and I already feel better. I also had a lot of anxiety, depression, throat burn, stomage problems, hard to sleep, dizzy, stressed body and now after a week I feel more calmer and less anxiety. I do drink black tea but I want to stop with that too. Also a reason why I stopped drinking coffee is that my teeth got ugly. Thank you for a Great video 😊
I love to watch “why I quit coffee” videos first thing in the morning as my coffee replacement:-) thanks for sharing
Sounds like a plan! 😂😂
Same
same!
My husband and I are on the road to getting rid of caffeine and feel so happy about it. For the next week or two we will be drinking one cup of green tea a day, and then tapering that off and then being rid of caffeine completely. I Don't want to go cold turkey because I'm the mother of two teenage daughters. And also I'm the caregiver for my elderly mother who lives with us. So I'm going to taper it off so that I don't deal with a withdrawals. However, I can already feel an enormous change from not drinking coffee for 30 days, and then switching to a cup of black tea a day for about 3 weeks. Now doing green tea one cup a day for a week. Looking forward to being rid of this psychoactive drug completely. Also got rid of alcohol about 60 days ago and feel wonderful about that. My anxiety and depression is slipping into non existent. Praise God. Thank you for your video!
Sound like it’s all heading in the right direction for you. 👍

Day 3 for me caffeine free, 6 years off alcohol.
I quit drinking 3 years ago. Chronic alcoholic. Needed detox and 1 year in treatment. Just switched to vaping from cigarettes last week and I'm contemplating going caffeine free. It's a big change. I want to get completely off nicotine but one thing at a time. Congrats to you. How's the caffeine thing going??
@@timothyslaughter476 day nine and I feel 10 years younger. I quit tobacco and caffeine at the same time . Used a patch . I fasted for the first two days . I think that helps the brain repair itself while trying to ditch habits. It’s so worth quitting caffeine. First 3 days is rough .
@@brianmcnary3960 that's great and thanks for the reply. I appreciate it. I think quitting caffeine is probably underrated as far as positive effects. I know it puts me on a daily roller-coaster. Nothing like the alcohol trip. That nearly killed me. But the switch to vaping from smoking has been helpful but I need to quit the nicotine totally. I'm getting some gum. Maybe a patch. A work in progress. Have a great weekend. Thanks again.
Jesus can set as free❤
Smoked and drank for 40 years . Gave them up 6 years ago coffee is the last vice. I'm 3 days in .
I'm on day 3 so fucken tired
Coffee is the last addiction for me to quit.
Inspiring video. Thank u 😊
2 weeks no caffeine...atleast in the coffee form which I've been drinking as a child and now 48. Killed 2 birds with one stone and put alcohol on the chopping block with coffee. It just made sense. I just got tired of feeling run down for years. I could actually attest to the change I've felt. Definitely much more calm and happier knowing I'm feeling the pros and know overall it's better. I've noticed my energy level being more consistent and leveled. Done with the crashes of caffeine.
I just did the same thing. I was drinking way too much caffeine. It’s a legal drug, but because of marketing, we get tricked in to believing it is harmless. Like you, I threw quitting alcohol in their for good measure. That was easy as I would only drink a few beers in a weeks time.
Same here. Great decision. 😀👍
I struggled with severe stress and anxiety for years and about a year or two ago I decided I wasn't going to drink coffee after about 2pm. I can't believe the difference it has made to my life. All those years I never put it together.
Strange that when I think back to when I first had anxiety as a late teenager, that was the time I started drinking coffee. I racked my brain for years trying to figure out why I felt this way, and all along it was under my very nose.
Alcohol also caused me anxiety (and brain fog) which I have quite since may 2022 - and will NEVER go back.
Thank you for this video. You won a subscriber here.
Kind Regards.
Jesse
Sounds like you’ve been on a similar journey.
Heart disease made the decision for me. I mean, I was like you described - drank coffee all day long. One reason of many as to why I had hypertension. These days, I haven't actually quit, but I only have one rather mild cup in the morning. (Look, I gave up cigs, booze, and cheeseburgers, give me a break, lol.) If I feel I want more than one cup of coffee, I got some expensive decaf to act as methadone. The key to anything you consume is to wash it out with water. Stay hydrated, my darlings.
Ive been drinking coffee first thing when I awake for years, and throughout the day. Very poor appetite, stressed and anxious. Thanks for sharing this video. I am now going cold and getting rid of caffeine. Blessings from Ireland.
@doneganlife 🦉 Thank you for talking about this by the sea. Quite inspiring, you were. Caffeine causes shortages of B12 and magnesium--the lack of which causes cramping...
Watching whilst enjoying a hot latte walking in the snow.
Thanks Don, I’m a much happier feline without caffeine now. But I can’t believe what I did to the furniture
😂😂 The cats I know a manic enough without consuming caffeine!! 😂😂
ITS SOOOOOO TRUE. Life without caffeine is 100% better 🤗
I quit caffeine because my heartburn was so bad i was feeling pain in my diaphragm.. quitting it cold turkey also made me really sick too. But i had to do it
Doing minty green tea now, love it
31 year male from India ...and quit caffeine since 4 days. Planning to go longer . Thanks sir for this informative video . Currently suffering withdrawals
The withdrawals will soon pass and give way to a calmer life everyday.
@@doneganlife gracias 🙏
Thank you, Mr. Egan. I believe if the world was full of more folks like you the world would be a much better place. Thank you! I’m tapering off. Really don’t want this drug in my life anymore. Cheers
I quit a month ago. Lower anxiety was an unexpected but a welcome bonus
How promounced is the effect? Still caffeine free?
Has improved my life considerably to quit caffeine. Thanks for posting. People in my family are miserable to be around and they are in the height of their addiction to it. I can say nothing to them, they refuse point blank to ever quit. Smh.
Good video thanks. I'm on day 37 caffeine free after many attempts in the past. I wasn't a huge drinker but maybe a couple of coffees and one tea a day. At this stage i'm feeling pretty good and I'm able to function as well as I did with caffeine - I just don't have all the nasty side effects that caffeine gives you. I expect things to get better too. The first few weeks were hard mainly due to lack of motivation and lethargy but it got better fairly quickly in my case. I think everyone reacts differently. i hope I can stick it out this time to get a least a year before I can really evaluate how better it is to be off that nasty drug. The hardest part for me has always been to stay off it. I have gone through the first few weeks thing a few times so I'm looking forward to a long term experience this time.
Good day. It has been seven days since my last cuppa coffee. The major effects were felt within the first 48 hours. By DAY6 I started feeling like myself again. This comment marks day seven and I feel much better. I don’t know if I have a headache anymore. But, I was able to wake up on time today and was able to get my day started. Just thought I would update you.
Sounds like a great decision to me. 🙂
I had to enlarge the picture to discover that the beautiful beachfront, definitely better than anything else in England, is in Felixstowe. Thank you for the coffee encouragement, I have given up due to sudden heartburn/indigestion and giving up gluten and green tea at the same time as I am suffering so badly. Namaste 🙏
I quit all caffeine two weeks ago, hoping it will help me sleep better but I’m not noticing much difference so far, except I don’t have to pee as often which is a good change and it would be worth it just for that, so I will keep this up regardless. I’ve had zero withdrawal symptoms.
This is very interesting.
Ive switched from regular coffee to decaf 6 months ago due to bouts of panic attacks/anxiety. Coffee also depletes magnesium which can amplify your stress and anxiety.
Yep, started supplementing with magnesium
Coffee is massively comforting for me ....
That’s ok. If you can sleep, don’t have anxiety or heartburn, then enjoy !
Could not relate more to this video. Thanks for sharing your experience, Dan. All the best.
Did a blood test 2 weeks ago and apart from a severe vitamine D deficiency (for which I take supplements now) I also had high LDL cholestorol (now looking out a bit more for the saturated fats). Reason I did the blood test is because of a constant headache (more of a small constant pressure), bad sleep whereas I don't have a problem falling asleep but waking up at 04:00 etc. I stopped drinking coffee last week (I was a heavy drinker) and alcohol. Yes I had a headache for 2 days but that is gone (still the slight pressure though). Instead I drink (cafeine and theine free thee). And whenever I feel like relaxing on a saturday with a drink I'm taking a 0% alcohol beer..
love this , thanks gramps .
Thank you for sharing. I am in a pretty bad place myself and I'm considering giving this a try.
Worth a try. I’m often surprised by how much what we consume affects our emotional state.
Me too. I hope you are ok. I have given up alcohol and have used caffeine to help me achieve that. I still suffer from PSI. I am going to give this a try.
did you give it a try?
@EM-cz4rd I have cut down dramatically, but not quit.
Every day is a struggle. I don't have much else to give up.
Thanks for sharing!
nice video Don! much appreciated opinions!
Happy in my “addiction.” Everything in moderation. But I’m glad you found it helpful to quit.
I'm wrapped I came across, great video, I'm convinced, Thank-you 🙏
Thank you so much Don Egan.. I need to quit caffeine and refined sugar bcuz i have anxiety and depression
Thanks for the video!
Excellent Message. It's about freedom. You wake up without the anxiety of getting your fix of caffeine drug.
I get my energy from hot water and fruit with oats every morning.
Handsome man you are! Also, your words are spot on. Depresso is the most suitable word for this drug. Have been drinking one espresso and one Greek coffee daily for years and I couldn’t imagine that this could be a factor for some sleepless nights and anxiety on a daily basis… have gone decaf for a couple of weeks and I already dare saying I feel so fresher, much stamina, sleeping like a baby and stable efficiency through out my day. But I have also adopted some other habits too. Keep on the good job 👍
Thank you very much. It is the last video that really tipped the scale...! Tomorrow will have no that drug...
Today is my 2 day… yesterday was really hard in terms of withdrawal effects…
Great for you!! I'm giving it up also!
Thanks for sharing
Thank you for the very helpful video! I've decide to give quitting caffeine a go as well and appreciate your help and message.
Thanks Mark. 👍 Highly recommend going caffeine free. 🙂
Good decision!
glad I found this video thank you for sharing this insight
You’re welcome 😀
6:25 lol nice "Subscribe!" edited in there 😁
This was very relaxing to watch. Great contrast to so much other content out there.
8 years is super impressive! I'm on day 5. Furthest I've made it is only a few months. The first time I quit was one of the hardest things I've ever done in my life.. no joke. The withdrawal lasted months!
It's truly eye-opening when you experience all the changes your body goes through when you quit, which is why I'm quitting again.
Cheers!
Haha! Wasn’t sure anyone would even notice the quirky ‘subscribe’ bubble. Worth quitting I feel - I’m just a lot calmer these days.
I quit coffee as well. My diabetes starting getting better numbers are dropping no more depression. Thoughts clarity much better wished I had never started coffee.
I've been trying to go without caffeine too. The first two or three weeks were tough but I think I've got it kicked now a month later. I hope it's worth it
It will definitely be worth it!! You’ve got this!!
I have to say at this point not only do I now feel normal but actually better than when I was living with 4 or 5 cups of tea and coffee a day plus Celsius energy drinks!
I suffer from terrible anxiety and depression and om still drinking caffine. Thank you for this video.
Try to give up coffee and in 7 months you will be a different person. Calcium and magnesium supplements should not be missing from your diet.
@@SassyPants-00why magnesium and calcium?
Gave up caffeine 3 months ago and it was tough but wow mentally I am so much better
I am on day 2 of no caffeine. I am done. I also did no more alcohol. I was only consuing 100-150mg in the morning but I always had that afternoon crash. I had anxiety most of my life too. Thanks for the video! :)
Very welcome.
Thank you sir for the advice
Very welcome. 😀
that outro😅❤ dig your vibe man you a real one
😂😂 *may contain nuts…
Thank you for sharing. :)
God bless yu. ❤
Thanks for this, been drinking lots of tea and felt really bad anxiety. Will decaff now
People in Asia and Europe drink tea which has 1/2 the amount of caffain compared with coffee. You have to take caffain in moderation like 4 cups of tea or 2 cups of coffee per day.
Why? Why are we taking drugs? I want a life that I don’t feel the need to escape from. No caffeine, no alcohol, no refined sugar. Others may choose differently, but I much prefer life without psychoactive drugs.
Also I hate the taste of tea anyway.
Life without caffeine for me is 300% better than with. 😀
That is a lot of caffeine. I drink two very weak cups of green tea and that is way too much for me. I will cut back to one and quit.
or you know just dont drink it
Sorry to hear that
Lol, lying awake at night due to caffeine watching this 😅
Haha! Maybe your body is trying to tell you something. 😀
Thank you, Mr. Egan. I'm a male senior citizen and a total caffeine fiend. I'm also a recovered alcoholic, sober for several decades now. I got sober with the help of Alcoholics Anonymous. While AA has helped many people to stop drinking, it tacitly encourages caffeine addiction. There's a coffee pot going at most meetings, and many people go out for even more coffee after the meetings. So, when I quit drinking, I became a caffeine addict in short order.
It's now time for me to quit coffee, which is why I'm watching this vid. Hearing your own experience is helpful, so maybe I'll be strong enought get off it for good this time. Thanks again for this vid.
Interesting info! Didn’t know that. I’m trying to create a life I don’t want to escape from that doesn’t need any addictions to medicate life at all.
@@doneganlife My goal as well. Before alcohol I was on hard drugs, and I quit smoking a long time ago. What's left? compulsive overeating (bummer) and caffeine. Addictions I somehow missed: porn and gambling, LOL. Let's hope we both get there; wishing you well.
@@MrRezillo Sounds like quite a journey you’ve been on there! Going in the right direction I’d say! 🙂👍
It definetly helps to quit those evening drinks as well. So, true. I just half my cofee consumption -I never be free, I think- but I got mutch better, deeper sleep. No carving for eveneing alcohol drink. Thanks for sharing this valuable info.
You are correct and giving it up lower my blood pressure down to normal.
Another common benefit. 👍
Nice video dude, I go through long periods where I quit and I feel so much calmer and happier. Much like you've described. But for some reason I always go back for that cup occasionally. I am going to try quit it for good though.
Congrats Don! I'm converting to Yerbamate. Perhaps you should give it a go as well.
Also it's possible to cut down or do decaf. I do like 1/3rd caff and avoid all the negatives of coffee. Also tea has l-theanine so you get relaxed while you get energized, kind of the best of both worlds.
Well done
So much better without it 🙏💛agree and relate re caffeine
Good for yu sir yur so right. I’m going two do same now stop the caffeinated I’ll buy decade and green teas that’s for sure iv all ready gave up drinking reo it does Feel better with out. It all ❤
I've tried to quit caffeine so many times. I have sleep issues and it's been a crutch for me when waking up in the morning. Currently, I'm slowly dialing it back, but I'm not committing to any lifelong habits yet. However by cutting way back to Hojicha which has very little caffeine, I'm able to see that I'm way less agitated and stressed. Maybe one day I'll be a zero caffeine guy. I also plan to cut alcohol. Tried cutting both, but that has never worked long-term.
I am two weeks off of coffee. I drink green tea now. Have to change diet due to my blood numbers are up. Too much sugar and junk food. Sleep better and added riding my stationary bike.
Good story. I have gone off caffeine and back on over the last few years. I can usually tolerate a cup or two of coffee per day for about two weeks, then it loses it's zing and I have to get off it again because it starts causing sleep problems and gut problems.
I'm tapering off again currently and already feel significant improvement in sleep quality. I use diet Moutain Dew to taper down because it has 54mg of caffeine per can, so it's easy to calculate and taper it down over a couple weeks without any withdrawal effects.
I stopped drinking alcohol almost a year ago and still go out but have switched to glasses filled with half water/half unsweet tea. However, sleeping is a REAL problem, so now I'm about forced to forego tea altogether if I want any shut-eye. Very difficult decision for me. Just can't win!!
Caffeine is our soma
Think I might give it a go
Worth a try. 😀👍
I always feel like I’m just ‘borrowing’ energy when I need a boost from coffee as I will always crash by evening time. Now I just drink half a cup for breakfast and don’t take any form of alcohol.
I’ve quit for a couple years and now just drink 1 cup on days I lift and nothing more
We really in coffee rehab now 😬
Gave up caffeine about 15 years ago. It's a terrible drug for some people.
Very good video. I'm giving up morning coffee because it seems to be dehydrating me which is bad. Also, I also feel it's a false surge of energy that actually becomes a constant. low-grade anxiety.
Exactly my experience.
You should do more dancing please 🖖great video, authenticity speaks volumes.
Haha! I really shouldn’t! 😂😂
I feel like crap in the morning until I get some coffee, and that's not how I want to go through life. Thinking I want to mostly stop drinking caffeinated drinks besides an occasional cup of coffee or energy drink before a particularly tough workout. The problem right now is that I've desensitized myself to it so much that I don't even feel it. Time to taper off it, I think.
It's a brutal cycle. You probably feel like crap in the mornings because you're drinking coffee and energy drinks throughout the day which is interfering with your sleep. At least, this is what was happening to me.
One cup at morning. Then decaf unless im really sleepy. More relaxed and less migrane auras. Because they usually start when overstimulated. Without caffeine it's very rare. I think brain can naturally supress overactivity but not when caffeine is present. Also been off alcohol for half a year and its true that when you give up the highs you dont need the lows.
Сafeine. Suger. Alcohol. Those we all have to get rid of ...I have quit alcohol :))
I’m excited … I’m 60 and was hvg stomach bloat and gas n I never had that. I think the coffee isn’t the same anymore
It tastes bitter n I’m a black coffee drinker
So 5 days of body aches and nightmares and I’m coming out of the storm
I drink here n there and I have not drank alcohol for a while but didn’t notice a difference
But may try it
I am also sugar free for years.
Mostly carnivore
im only 18 ive been consuming caffine about every day since around 13-14 years old, this video serves a sort of wake up call id never thought of it but ive had jitters and racing thoughts for years, ive always attributed caffine with learning since i convinced myself i needed it for school but i believe ive been lied to, im committing now to ending my morning shits
Yes, I’ve heard high school kids talk about taking caffeine tablets during exam time…! What the…?! Certainly if you’ve had jitters and racing thoughts, caffeine is the number 1 suspect. 🙂
Caffeine doesnt stimulate entirely. It also prevents you feeling the tiredness you have.
Yeah a mixture of caffeine, alcohol and sugary foods has kept me mostly anxious for years with odd moments of calm.
Caffeine I've been off for a long while now but alcohol is the latest thing that has really had a bad impact on me mentally. After 2 months, im still healing. Thats drugs for you!
I have to say though I miss my cups of teas, they say have decaf but its not the same with how normal teas go down.
1 day in I feel Great
It’s great to decaffeinate our life! 😀
Well done for quitting. Are you still off it? I’ve tried many times to quit caffeine and it’s always so difficult because it ties into the fast paced way of life we all live these days. It stops me sleeping properly so I know I need to give it up again, and it makes me overthink things which can’t be good.
I find it fascinating how 90% of us need a psychoactive stimulant drug to get us through the day. Surely that can’t be good for us!
Exactly! Still no caffeine here and not going back to it either. 🙂
I've never drank alcohol, just the smell of it makes me queasy but i do have two cups of coffee in the mornings and i feel anxious, but i am an anxious person anyway, always worrying about something. What i am going to do is test it, from tomorrow morning i wont drink any coffee at all for the next 7 days and im going to report back on my findings x
How did it go?
Thanks for the video. Tomorrow I am going to attempt to stop drinking coffee altogether. I will be OK for the first 48 hours but then it will get harder and harder. I have only made it to de number for them always have returned. This time I’m going to use a tiny bit of medicine. Tylenol here, Advil, there. You know. Enhancers.😊
Well, I never knew this about caffeine. I suffer from depression and anxiety. I had a coffee this morning without knowing this. Starting tomorrow I will stop drinking tea or coffee and in a couple of days, I'll see how om getting on.
Worth a try. You’ll probably get a bad headache of withdrawal in the first 24 hours, but after that there’s usually an increased feeling of calm.
Espressos have less caffeine than coffee. It’s about 60 mg of caffein compared to a cup of coffee that can be 200-300 msg. It’s only stronger tasting because of more coffee to water ratio but overall, it’s less caffeine.
It seems that coffee is literally is same as many drugs, though acting as a time bomb. Because the times a drunk coffee it felt like it gives me energy and boosted my dopamine, also you could read somewhere that coffee is actually has some positive impact on human's health.
And that starts to just feel so usual, you really stop to even think that those things could be related. Because it starts very unexpected and you suddenly become to feel down, depressed, anxious and flooding your brain with extremely damaging thoughts... More than that i think this effect is related to as why people get less time in their day and feel lost most of the time.
I read some article where there was a claim that the stress state is directly related to how we perceive time. And that is where coffee comes in to "help"..
