Absolutely love both of the Off-White 5's. So unique and very stylish
Love that you went back and let people know Virgil's thought process in making these. Also love that you love these, they're dope, don't need to make any excuses. Especially on a shoe most people like (only a vocal minority dont)!
I’m 53 years old from Little Rock Arkansas and the “Coke “ reference is spot on, if you’re from the South every soft drink is referred to as a Coke but since I wasn’t into Jordan’s back then I don’t know what they called the original 5s but as always great video. I love the content 👍🏾👏🏾👏🏾

I had the original ones in 1990 in the grape and green - I was the first kid in my jr. high in Colorado with them (also first to have the white cement 89's in 7th grade!). I feel like all the naming came much later. Back then we just called them the white ones and the black ones, the green and purple ones, etc. We also never called them the 3's, 4's, 5's, it was always about what year they came out, the 88's, the 89's, the 90's...
I prefer the Muslin’s, but these are nice too. For me, the Muslin 5s and the 2s are the best AJ x Off White collabs. After that I’d probably go with the 4s.
From Louisiana and I can vouch for Jodi’s “Coke” reference! As for what we called those back in 1990…in New Orleans we just called them Jordans. They were either “the white ones” or “the black ones.” However, Chris you’re right about “The fire reds” - I def remember them being called that. I don’t remember people giving them nicknames until the 7s and then they were the “Bugs Bunnies”
Similar thing in Southern California. People may’ve called them breds or whatever but I don’t recall people calling them that.
Bro im 40 i never been or will be fan of the yellowing but those off white 2s hit different after i bought them then i bought the black and blue 2s as well and ended up liking those more
I'm 46 and my first pair of J's was a pair of Black Metallic 5's. In LA we just called the Fire Red aways. Because the Bulls used to where black shoes at home and the white ones away.
I care less about the shoe but more about the information and your thoughts about the shoe and design that's unique.

With me being the same age as Jordan in Charlotte N.C. we just called one the white Jordan’s and the black Jordan’s. I purchased my 5’s at Flight 23 when they came out unfortunately they didn’t have my size. His brother Larry got me a pair from Footlocker in Shelby NC. I was unaware that Footlocker had exclusive rights to Jordan’s shoes.
Chris this video was great. Hope yall do more like this explaining some of the previous released Jordan"s or sneakers that came out. I learned a lot more about the OFF-WHITE sneakers from this video. I never understood the insane hype around those shoes. Thanks for the telling story behind them.

The Muslin’s one of those grails I never was able to cop. One day…. But these 5’s would nice to have as well. Like that you’ve reviewed a previous release and made it relevant!
I bought the Black Metallics in 1990 when I was working at Footlocker, it was my first Jordan that I’ve ever had, so the 5s have a special place in my heart
I wanted the 5s so bad when they came out.....we called em the white ones or the black ones.....I have em now and I wear em all the time

i wish i still had them, i wore the hell out of those. Back then it didn't even cross my mind to save them, i loved them and wore them basically everyday until they kind of feel apart and i threw them away. If i could do it all over again, i would have kept them but unfortunately as of now, we can't go back in time lol
I'm 45 and from Harlem on 115th street. We just called them " the new Jordans" and said a descriptive feature like the colors and or reflective tongue
Crazy that you did a video on these. They’ve been a grail pair for me since they dropped, recently I was finally able to cop both color ways. These are my favorite pairs all hype aside I just LOVE everything about these! 😊

Good stuff as always Chris and Jodi! No issues with seeing a review of an older sneaker, especially for one that's significant and among the more notable pairs of a collaboration lineup. For me, top 3 Off Whites are the OG Ten Blazers (super clean and wearable, design just really speaks to me), the black Vs (black metallic Vs have always been my favorite Vs and I really like the slimmed down look as well), and then maybe the original 3 pack of dunks (the remixed BTTYS colorways are too good). Honorable mention to the 50 dunks as well because that's the only pair I've got (Lot 5 which is blue overlaces and light yellow tongue), they're pretty nice even if the whole concept was mostly uninspired.

You're right about that creative juice lol. There's only been a few of Virgil's designs that I haven't liked but most of his work with Nike was beautiful imo (even the stuff with the spikes although those are much less wearable)

1) chicago 1
2) hyperdunk (don’t ask why but i personally loved them lol)
3) the 50 collection dunks (more specifically lot 13 because i got them and i wear them the most out of all my sneakers)

In Tennessee my Family would simply just say they wanted a “Cold Drank” and being raised in Dayton Ohio, we said the universal word….”POP”. Coke is universal too in Tennessee especially in the 80’s and 90’s, the new generation doesn’t use the same slang because of many of the transplants from other states and regions. Great Episode Again….!!!
When I was ten I wanted the fire red 5's so bad... that netting looked so cool to me...I begged my dad... by the time he finally said yes and took me to Big 5 to get them... they were gone... instead they had another pair... the Carmine 6's. I love 6's cuz they were my first... but 5's hold a special place in my heart as the pair that got away.
When we were younger, the black pairs were the OG’s, then when they came with the white pairs we called them the “away” pair. Going with the colors of the away jerseys 🙌🏽
Jodi, I’m from MS and you are correct. We call all soda Coke. “You want a Coke? I have Sprite, Coke , Root Beer. What kind of Coke do you want?” I don’t know why we do that 🤷♂️
My favourite Off-White = The Jordan 5 Muslin; too bad the resale cost is CAD 1300+. I would say my 2nd favourite is this one - absolute flame.
if you're in Wisconsin we call it "fizzy flavor bubbler water" also I think my favorite OW Nikes are the Air Max 90's in the Desert Ore colorway, I love that tan and orange.
With you on not being a fan of the 1 at all but thinking the Presto is 🔥. These kind of videos have a lot of worth too, there’s so much cool sneaker history that new collectors would benefit from being able to check out stuff they weren’t around for. Also it’s cool in general to revisit and deep-dive parts of the collection with newer production on the video and everything. It’s a blast, we don’t need to see only upcoming or hypebeast stuff 👍🏻

I’ve had these twice. Lovely shoe. Only thing about them, and I had the same problem with the Jade Green 5s, that aged outsole is made out of gummy worms. Literally a handful of wears and it’s just shaving away at the heel, for me at least. Seems like if it’s really hot day they get even softer and the concrete really eats at them. I’m not wearing sole protectors, I hate the feeling of a sticker being at the bottom of the shoe so…other than that great shoe, and the rare shoe where all 3 pairs of the laces look great in them and I could never stick with one

I grew up on an island in British Columbia Canada. I was born in 1977, so I was in junior high when the Jordan 3, 4, 5 , were being released. Back then we just called them the "white' or "black" pairs.
Nobody had them. if local stores got them in it was only a couple pairs and they would be gone instantly.
We only really ever saw them in magazines or on jordans foot.
The Sail 4s are the best pair, and the black off white air max are 2nd.
I’m from Milwaukee, WI…they were always called Fire Red 5s!!! They were not referred to as “Silver Tongues” until the Fire Red “Black Tongues” released

My top 3 are
Vapormax - love the suede plate over the fly wire eyelets and the extended foam tongue that virgil borrowed from the air max 95. Perfect blend of vintage and modern aesthetics imo.
Air Force 1 - love the mesh and I think virgil deserves the upmost props for making an Air Force 1 that actually looks better beat than new. The shape also resembles the 1983 lows way better than the current blocky shape does.
Blazers - that giant swoosh, the rip stop on the mid foot and the extended tongue all do it for me. These also look way better once beaten down.

Central Cali here, we just called them silver tongue ‘90s (referring to the year they came out, 4s would be the ‘89s, 6s would be the ‘91s) but my pair were the “black tongue ‘90s”, which we are way over due for a retro with Nike branding on the heel!

1990. I was in college, I got the black pair and my roommate got the white. I retired my white cement 4s soon after. We just called them the 5s.?

5's are the first Jordan that made me fall in love with shoes. I always look to cop 5s and the older I get I want the crazy ones like these or the A Ma Maniere( which I LOVE!!) I just hate that I missed out on the to the point where I got to over pay now and HOPE that they are the real things.

From the nyc area, I’ve heard both the “silver tongue” 5s and “fire red” 5s used to call those specific 5s. Primarily “fire red” 5s though. However, if we were to specify which one, we’d either refer to the silver tongue or the black tongue depending on which one

my top three are the rubber dunks, the lot series dunk lows, and the jordan 5 muslin (black metallic). but the rubber dunk is such an underrated one tbh

My all time fav off white is the jordan 4 followed by those off white blue air force 1s low. Then the jordan 1 unc off white.
If I were younger, I would try rocking the AF 1 Mids with the spikes, they look interesting, and I love the varsity maize colorway that just came out. But I'm way too old to pull off something that looks a cartoon.
Go for it. You can cut them off. Or just use them and they will wear off pretty quickly

When we say Coke in the South in a restaurant we are refering to what ever dark carbonated soda that place serves regardless of if its Coke or Pepsi. When i was a kid we just refered to Js as either black, white or Carolinas.

Growing up in the East Bay, Berkeley and Oakland, in the late 80’s early 90’s people just referred to the shoes as the “new jordans” and then they were identified by the color. Black and Red Jordans or Red and White Jordans. I had the OG release of these 5’s in 3rd grade and they were just “Jordans” if I remember correctly
