You seem to have neglected another aspect of finding a Dyson sphere….
The civilization that built it may actually be extinct - as it has taken so long for that light to even reach us.

@@TexasTimeLord Exactly. So you'd have to source interstellar materials or damage the entirety of your own solar system just to make it feasible. That, in and of itself, makes the task insurmountable.

Conversely, if they were so advanced they could build a dyson sphere to begin with, they surely would be quite thriving. Imagining they could be in numerous locations is not far off to consider. Especially if the process isn't as bad as we think it is once they are at a certain level. Maybe it's as simple as destroying a certain size planet and using the materials of that planet to construct the sphere. Now for it to all pop up suddenly is a bit more strange, but it may be we simply missed it all along.

    • @braxxian

Agreed. However considering interstellar travel is pretty much off the table without some kind of wormhole or hyperspace jump technology making the most of your own solar system would be the next logical step.

Interesting video, however I'm skeptical about Dyson spheres. Why bother? Only, if you're an alien and a master of the universe, then wouldn't you be more towards the quantum mechanical nanoscale over harnessing energy from some of the largest objects in the universe - stars?

Think about the amount of material to completely enclose a star. There is not enough material inside a solar system to produce such an object unless they could somehow replicate the material they are using. Say that can't do that so they use up every planet in their solar system except the home world of course. After they use all of that up they would have to start taking apart planets in other nearby star system. It is said that the distance between star systems is about 4 to 5 light years. Unless these beings can somehow travel faster than the speed of light it would take decades and centuries to bring material from those nearby systems. Since the speed of light is suppose to be the limit fastest speed in the universe these being would be limit to speeds under the speed of light. So let say they have reached a speed of 90% the speed of light Again it would take years to go from their home system to the one that is nearest to them. And the size of these ships would have to be enormous to bring gigatons of material back to the home world. From the time the project starts to the time it is finish would take thousands or tens of thousands of years to complete and a lot of things could happen from beginning to finish. We can't even build a shield around the ISS to protect it from space debris so how can these space being that we want to believe in so badly build something that is millions of miles around their home star. Too much science fiction. If there was no God, and there is, maybe we could do such a thing hundred of millions of years from now but they better hurry up because God's plan to create new heavens and a new earth.

I agree with most of what you said in your reply- Except the "God" parts- lol....there is no God(s) and never were, Science on earth has proven them as just the Lies and myths of early cultures on earth.....and the reason we are on the eve of destruction now with half the (flat) earthers living in a 2nd Dark Ages is proof enough how ignorant mankind truly is.

@@manhunter3429 absolutely there is enough material in our solar system to build a Dyson swarm. No reason to think others could have the same.

The narrator sounds like he's rather reading a bedtime story to a kid; than talking about something as complex as cosmology. As much as I like the subject of astronomy, I cannot stand this annoyingly childish narration; I am, unfortunately, forced to unsubscribe.
