It is excellent as a utility program, I used one like this before many years ago and am looking for a new one, as the old didn't even work with Windows 7, was never updated and is now dead.! . My only annoyance is that Retro TK2 seems to think that speaking like Gollum / Smeagol is a good thing. Very irritating after a very short while.! . If you can get past the stupid and entirely fake speech pattern, this is a good video, and a great program :D
Very good tutorial. I achieved in seconds what it would have taken me many hours, and possible harm to my files, to successfully rename folders of images at a stroke. Well done!
How do you change filenames when they're all within different subfolders? EDIT: I found out that in section (12) there's a checkbox called "Subfolders" that you have to check in order to work on files within subfolders.
Working good to change folder names in bulk from uppercase to lower.. had to add a letter to the beginning. Rename it. Then when is everything lower.. delete the extra letter. Thanks
Hi Retro, found this really helpful as I needed to randomise videos in my folder as everything with the similair start names was apearing together! Found useful :)
Have you done a simple RegEx tutorial? I'm trying to get into RegEx for a project I'm working on and I'm having troubles understanding the text guidelines as I'm more of a visual learner and this video really helped!
I want to batch rename files inside folders to the title of the folder. Nothing more. Even this software doesn't seem to do that. Like I have 20 folders with scrambled file names and want each of them to reflect the title of their individual folder, and keep their extension.
Thanks for the sub Aegon of House Targaryen, Sixth of His Name, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, and Protector of the Realm (that's some name ;)), I'm glad it helped :)
Great video! I have a challenge and hope you could help. What I am trying to achieve can be best described with example. For example. If my main folder is X and inside X I have files then their names would be X---"file name". If inside of X I have a folder Y then the names of the files in folder Y should be X---Y---"File name". In cases there is another subfolder (lets call it Z) then the name of the files in Z will be X---Y---Z---"File Name". Now let me tell you what I understand how to do up to now and what I don't. I know how to use Append Folder Name and set the levels according to how deep the folder is. However, this is really time consuming since I don't know how many levels the main folder X has and it will also require from me to dig in and always change Levels for each subfolder. My Question is then, How can I let it know that The parent folder should be X and each time it is going down another folder that it will use the upper folders names with separators all the way up to folder X. I know it is challenging but I am sure someone as sophisticated as you are can help with this.
please i have a big project and its just rejected by the numbering of files. i have 500 folders and every folder have 1 and 2 and 3 till 500 but the problem is that i want to just add file number 500 at the number one and i want that the number just pushed and change all the file name like if the folder 500 is 1 so the file number 1 will be 2 and 2 will be 3 and the 499 will be 500 . pls i need really your help its important. my all money stuck in this project
This would also be fine: Example: Copy...dd-mm-jjjj... to beginning of file name. This ist the prefix. Now change the order of the prefix to jjjj-mm-dd and add a blank
Hello UHFStation1, I am almost certain you could do this with a regular expression, I'm just not sure how to do it. You could fudge it and get cleaver with the replace letter stuff, but that's far from ideal Sorry I can't help you further
There's one application that you install and you drag and drop the files as a batch and type the new extension you want the file to be renamed and done. NO fuzz no buzz.I just can't find it :P, thanks though for this tutorial.
Thanks for the awesome tutorial.. Do you perhaps know of any other software that can duplicate a file & allow renaming as well. Use case would be copying a template example "2020-01 Template.xlsx" then creating copies for each month of the year: "2020-02 Template.xlsx", "2020-03 Template.xlsx" etc
Little lost. Great tut for most of what I have done. However I have a whole folder with folders and subfolders with "_1" within the names, all at different places in the name. Tried Name (2): Remove: _1 and no change in the New Name. Filters (12) selected Folders and Subfolders, everything seems like it should work but nothing. Seems like the Remove isn't working. Any help from anyone is welcomed.
Normally, when a _1 is added at the end, is because you changes a capital letter for a lower case, or viceversa, which is not a substantial change or character and that's why it appears the _1 at the end.
Nice video, thanks for uploading... Did I miss something though? I do not need a program to rename one file at a time. I needed this to do an entire folder or at least a bunch of files... So how do I do that!? Thanks. EDIT: I figured out how to do it. I had to go to Display Options -> List -> Select Columns and add Type. Now I can sort by type and mark all the ones I would like to change... : )
Hey! Thank you for learning what you can. But I want to inform you that you go too fast. People do not understand everything you describe because of it. It would be great if you took it a bit more lung and explained. Because all people are not from the US or the UK, there of remaining people from other countries will find it hard to keep up with everything you say. But what you do is better than nothing at all.
Hello Kami Thank you for your feedback and advice, I'll definitely take it on board The Irish speak pretty fast, even speaking the way I do in these videos feels slow to me, but I like to think I'm getting slower and clearer with each one Cheers :)
Well, I think it's great, it's a youtube video so I can pause or go back and this way at least I don't get extremely bored waiting for a slow talker to give me the information I need. The accent is an added bonus and a great adventure for a non native speaker :)
The speed of your speech and your accent was hard to understand so I did not finish watching the video. I am sure that is my problem and not yours. Thanks for what I did learn and the handy links in the description.
This utility saves my life when having to change multiple groups of files for differentiation!
The most useful video I've watched for years

Working good to change folder names in bulk from uppercase to lower.. had to add a letter to the beginning. Rename it. Then when is everything lower.. delete the extra letter. Thanks

Anyway to make it rename a list of files differently? Like every 4th file start with a "D" and everyday 1st video an "A" and so forth?

How to add Tag & Title to Picture file or .jpg file.
Is it possible to modify timestamp on my video file? If yes then where would I look it up? Thank you
Very helpful :-) Question: How do I reverse the order of part of the file name?
Example: Change ...05-02-2020... to ...(2020-02-05) 05-02-2020...
By using the Regex field (he most powerful and useful tool in BRU with no decent tutorial vid), Match and replace Change dd.mm.yyyy to yyyy.mm.dd

Iv'e used this app successfully before but now in raplacing one text with another it just deletes the text rather than replaces. wtf?
thank you so much

You can slow the video down in UA-cam itself.
What I'd like to know is what language is this you are speaking is?
It's a Northern Irish accent, but with "ace" randomly added throughout.
Muy interesante
Gracias Vanhelsing X3 :)
RegEx please ....
