Absolutely fantastic!!! So easy to follow, so well explained and so incredibly much time saved. Thank you so, so much, this is truly one of the best videos that ever existed
I just used this workflow to rename 2000 photos that were incorrectly renamed during an import into Lightroom that crashed half way through. This workflow has literally saved me days of work. Thanks so much Karina!
Just used this and it worked out swimmingly, my girlfriend needed help renaming 3,000 folder names based on an excel file with a corresponding number. I really appreciate it.
Renaming several hundred wav files for the sake of changing two numbers in the file name was no fun at all. THIS has been a brilliant time saver. Thank you SOOO MUCH Karina for your fantastic help 👍👍👍👍
I am a university student from Thailand. Thank you very much for helping me to solve the task of resolving many variants of file names in a short time after I was stuck on this problem for a long time.
I have tried every file renamer in the book - without success. So, after spending hours today and weeks and months before trying to find how to completely rename each one of a long list of files in a file directory it has taken this wonderful lady Brit to come up with the answer - and so briefly and succinctly, too! Thank you, thank you, thank you! (Oh! and plus the =A2&B2&C2 - which is so much quicker than concat)!
This is far one of the best videos about how to rename multiple files at once. The possibility to use excel unlocks so many other things like logical ways to set file names and them use it in file names. That's awesome. Thanks a lot
I looked up 6 different web guides on renaming files and didn't find what I needed... this is exactly it. You saved me hours and hours of work, thanks so much!
You are my hero! I work in an Accounts Payable position and this will be a massive time saver for splitting & renaming large statements. I just shared it with my team too. Thank you so much for posting this and making it so easy to follow along and learn.
Thank You, Thank You. I had hundreds of files that needed renaming, and thought “There’s got to be an App that does this.” And then lo and behold, I tripped over your UA-cam video that showed I already “had” the App with Windows and Excel! Your super clear instructions were a wonder, and I got the files renamed as if by magic. I, of course, saved the spreadsheet, and have already reused it as a template for other lists of files. Cut, Paste, doublecheck, and Done! THANK YOU!
Bravo. Just had to change the name of each file in 40 different folders. Took me about an hour, which is peanuts compared to doing it manually. It's one of the best tricks.
This video has been absolutely vital to me and my team as we needed to rename hundreds of glossary terms, this has saved us and our business hours of droll work! Thankyou so much for this!!!
Best tech video I've ever seen. It is easy to follow, easy to set it up, and the Excel template that gets created, can be re-used over and over effortlessly. Thank You so much
Oh my gosh, this is amazing! I needed to batch rename 125 files that had TWO sequential numbers in them, and wasn't sure if even a batch rename app existed to do this. Despite knowing the ren command, I never would have considered using a spreadsheet to create the commands in bulk! Thank you!
You're a diamond! I've seen a few videos teaching this skill, but all required the audience to download some 3rd party software from a sketchy site. So good to see that we can do this with excel and not have to put our computer's security at risk. Thank you so much :)
Great video! I changed it up a little by using concatenate in the last part to just include ren and spaces as part of the formula instead of dedicating columns to those elements. So useful!
Outstanding delivery/explanation. So simple. I went through half a dozen videos where the speaker just jumpes into the steps without explaining the reasoning. Great job!!😊
I would have had to tediously scan and rename each individual file in a folder of 500 chinese-named files for my translation project. But this guaranteed only the exact files got renamed. Thanks so much! Saved me HOURS!
Youre a lethal badass, Karina! Cutting straight through with 100% killer and no filler. I truly appreciate your clear and succinct style. So very well done!!!
This has been an extremely helpful tutorial and opened a lot of possibilities on what I thought would be a very tedious process, thank you very much! Short and to the point with good visuals.
You're a godsend! I had 3 folders with 60+ files to rename in each folder. This took a task that would of taken 1/2 day to do down to less than 10 minutes
This is a very smart method, thanks for posting this! Like most comments, you have saved me a big headache, I was trying to get AI to write a script to accomplish this with mixed success. To others, ***if you want to do this on macOS,*** it works too. Just copy and paste a group of files intoTextEdit after selecting "Format, Make Plain Text" from the menu to make the file list, and copy/paste into Excel. Then in terminal, use the "mv oldFileName newFileName" command to rename the files, in the same method as the video. (in the correct path). Paste the column into terminal. Wow thanks!
Can you elaborate on this 'ust copy and paste a group of files intoTextEdit after selecting "Format, Make Plain Text" from the menu to make the file list' please
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!! Spent hours figuring out how to rename my files and I am so thankful to found your tutorial. Thanks for sharing this, it is truly helpful!!
KARINA! LEMME TELL YOU SOMETHING!!!!!! YOU JUST SAVED ME HOURSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! I am sure that there are a myriad of ways to do this but I really appreciate how straight and simple this was. I also enjoyed how well you gave directions clearly and made it simple for users to follow and get the results they were looking for with MINIMAL knowledge and processing. BRAVO SISTER!!!! Absolutely fantastic and I am thankful to you! Keep Exceling ;). -Girls Who Love Data
This is so brilliant. And, I used to type the "RENAME" command like 250 to 300 times to rename everything. Gosh, it took the whole morning. This is so much faster just to add author at end.
OMG it worked!! Your a fricken LIFE SAVER! I search a pile of docs and tutes online; written by numpties and got nowhere. Thanks so much for sharing this. xo
Hi Karina. Not sure if you are still active on this video but wanted to say a huge thank you for the video. I needed to remame 300+ files and your video helped me to do that so very gratful. Many thanks.
Wow! just WOW! You are my HERO! I love organizing my files so I usually rename them (especially downloaded files with so many extra characters) so it will be neat and consistent. Though my fingers are fast on keyboard, renaming hundreds of files is still tedious. I finally decided to search whether bulk renaming is possible without using 3rd party apps. This really saved my day! This is so amazing! THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
Such a great video - best tutorial I’ve ever seen. Very interested to check out the others even though I don’t need them right now. Thank you for making this, Karina!
Thank you so much for this. I used to do this in PowerAutomate, but I no longer have access to MS. Now I have created an Google Sheets template and doing it this way is even quicker! Thanks again!
I already have some apps that can rename multiple files but it's hard to keep them in right order. With your solution, the sort order is absolute right. Thanks very much for your sharing.
Hi there, thank you for this. There is also a quick way via VB at this location. It didn't work for me initially because I had a pipe (|) in my rename and the only way I worked out that problem was by following your tutorial. It really helps to go back to basics.
Brilliant, Right to the point, well explained, step by step with a lot of tricks that help you in other tasks, I loved the trick of how to extract only the extensions. thank you very much
That is marvelous!! I never knew that renaming multiple files is that easy without coding. I was astonished to see the video. Waiting for more videos like this. I immediately subscribed to your channel.
I could kiss you but I can't and I wouldn't in real life out of respect but it should get across how grateful I am. You saved me hours of tedious work.
I found this just incredibly useful. Just superb. Thank you Karina. I can't remember when I was as excited! Perhaps it was in 1989 when I heard 'When You Come Back To Me' by Jason Donovan for the first time. Or maybe even further back and 'Souvenir' by OMD! :0)
When you want a long list of all the files in a map/directory: type dir >namefile then you have a txt-file with all the files in the new made file namefile.txt
lo maximooooo! translating, this is an awesome solution to a very big problem> THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!
