Well this is me as well. I am a high-functioning highly sensitive autistic that has lived a very strange life. I'm now in college getting my psychology degree to help others. This talk was awesome it was almost like you stole the words out of my mouth. Now, I was in a government/state program to be studied when I was 5-7 years old. If you can find the article "Hear the children" on the web -that was the study I was in.

Amazing lady! Why am I seeing this Ted talk 8 years after it was uploaded?! There must be something wrong with UA-cam’s algorithm because it’s been showing me the same tedtalks for ages and only today I’ve come across this absolute gem!

She was my professor at Trident around the time this was filmed. She is an amazing teacher. I suffer from PTSD and suffered a freeze episode and she was right there and removed me from it and would not allow me to leave until she knew I was no longer a danger to myself or any one else. We talked about what triggered my episode and my mental health struggles.

Wow You rock my lady! We really have no idea what some of us are going through. By being an example of how someone suffering from mental illness can get well again you have made a tremendous change for people who are still in the "dark ". Cheers.

Well done! Thank you for your self disclosure!!! I have been a therapist all my life (self sacrifice mode...as jeff young calls it...helping others in order to feel self worth etc. ) but since 2001 officially I have been a licensed CBP therapist! I always self disclose ...it has been and always be the best way to help others and heal my self too! I completely agree with you in every way! Keep going....self disclosure builds up rapport ...therapy was always a two way thing and the clinicians who do not recognize that ....Simply are not deeply effective...thank you for your video! Inspirational....

Great message. As I listened to Mrs. Simpson, I started thinking about my family tree and how we keep those in our family who have been or are mentally ill a very quiet secret. I don't know why, except that the illness has not been a pretty one. I will do better from this day forward. We do need to talk about this so we can learn more about the illnesses and become better equipped to help one another. Thank you for sharing. I appreciate your courage!

It’s not treated the same when victimized either. Emotional /psychological crimes are not treated the same as physical crimes either. First responders can’t help us and sometimes psychologist can’t understand us. They believe the victim of abuse is the problem. Help the narcissistic and psychopaths

Ok so she's telling us her life story. but how do you HEAL from trauma? If a wounded healer like Nancy had the experiential awareness that liberated her from trauma i.e. post traumatic growth, how did she achieve it and how can others do the same? for the life of me, I keep hearing about wounded healers but no one has addressed the specific kind of therapy needed to free ourselves from trauma. What. is. the. therapy!?
