I'm not sure if its flawless but it's pretty damn close and absolute gold from start to finish. Anyone who wants to write characters and stories should study this masterclass show.
Small Information: This outbreak manover with the burning ship really existed. Vane also escaped the English. Blackbeard, however, was not there. Vane and blackbeard are said to have been friends. Another thing you seem to have forgotten. Elenor's father was murdered. He was murdered when the two finally got closer. Best point of the father daughter relationship. Who do you think Elenor blames? This probably answers the question of why she is so fixated on Charles. Before Elenor was captured, she wanted to get her hands on Charles for it.
Just letting you know one of the fans I know sent the whole 3 characters Anne, jack & vane a fuck you jack cap to the actors & they absolutely loved their gift
I adore how into the show you guys are. This was one of my “lockdown shows” from last year and ever since, I’ve been telling anyone who cares to listen, “you gotta check out Black Sails!!!”
Flint is definitely one of the best characters of all time. He's so well written and performed. You can't give enough love to the writers. I loved the reveal with Mr. Scott and how it brings his 2 worlds together.
Fun fact. That fire ship thing that Vane did actually happened in real life, by the way. A lot of stuff on the show is fictionalized or loosely based on real events, but Vane is a real person and that fire ship plan to break the blockade really happened. It's one of the most historically accurate things that happened on this show.
When Charles replies "Fuck you Jack" he actually means "I love you". The actor said this is what he had in mind when he played it and I just ❤️ Those boys !!!
not to take away from the actor but that's what it was written to imply. That's a response befitting his character, and the writers ensured we understood this over the past two seasons.
I had a feeling they intended for it as well but I couldn't remember so I just stuck with what I know the actor has said, but yes, it fits perfectly with his character. I wish we could have seen more of them being friends, they spend most of season 1 and 2 working against each other
This show does such a flawless job with Silver's charisma. First they use it for comedy, and it is fun watching him trying to juggle his many lies and getting people on his side for various schemes. And now that they are in a life or death situation, of course it has to be Silver who does the talking on their behalf. It's impressive that they used perhaps the most comical part of the show to set up such a tense and dramatic situation.
You are so right about how this one episode completely elevates Mr Scott's character - in many ways, he's as pivotal to the progression of this entire story as any of the leads. He has a fundamental part that we never knew about. At first I struggled with the idea that he's so important and yet, we never got to see his importance - but then I thought about how it so works with his storyline. We don't see it, because he doesn't want us to see it. He exists in Nassau to blend in and keep in with the other characters, while making huge moves away from where the viewer's eyes are focussed. His character is absolutely fascinating to me, and yes it is absolutely worth a rewatch on this alone - especially the episode where he ends up on the slaver's ship. Honestly the whole show is worth a rewatch just to pick up on stuff like that for each character, but Mr Scott's character is really up there for me, along with Flint. These characters are amazing!!
What's amazing about these incredibly fleshed out characters is that the story could be retold from any of the 'side' characters's perspective. Mr.Scott, Billy, Max, Anne to name just a few could all be main characters if the story focused on their journeys.
Forgot how amazing this episode was, which is a testament to the quality of this entire series. Again, the writing makes the reveal of Mr. Scott feels so authentic, as if we are just experiencing the passage of time through this real world/story and learning of its history. There were a few scenes I noticed that eluded to Mr Scott’s secret. My fav was the convo he and Flint had in 2x4 where Flint was wondering if people knew Mr Scott was “…standing behind both thrones, keeping the world spinning”. The context was the 2 thrones of Eleanor and her father but this new light casts a much deeper meaning to that scene. Yes, I would say Flint is the most complex character I’ve watched. He’s already a complex man that is wearing the mask of an almost mythical figure whose story is being carved not just by himself but those around him. And my fav line so far has to be “Well what the FUCK did you think was going to happen!” as Toby Stephen’s voice literally cracks as he’s delivering that line haha.
In the 1st or 2nd episode, Hornigold approaches Mr. Scott and says "I need to know your secret." Mr. Scott looks at him worried. Then Hornigold says "about how to deal with her" referring to Eleanor and Mr. Scott looks relieved Little moments like that you wouldn't normally catch are amazing once you have the full picture. Plus the Flint and Barlow scenes are heartbreaking and beautiful, this show is outstanding!!
Just Flint's character arc in these 4 episodes alone are more complex than 95% of the character out there. Btw hope 'chaos' is mentioned in every episode till the end. Nikki is over it haha
This and the next two episodes are some of my favorites in the entire series. The actress that plays the queen has such a presence and the Mr Scott reveal. Then of course more legendary dialogue from Flint. Just brilliant!!
Oh favorite line up to now... Serious line probably "Or so help me god I will rain holy hell down upon him" but any of Flint's speeches really. Comedic line: Silver to Eleanor "I don't know how else to say this except, no. Suppose there's fuck no...Or fuck you" But as people have mentioned, you want good lines.. coming up next..
Finally the introduction to one of my top 3 characters has started - Maddie!!! And Mr Scotts reveal is one of my fav in the show, love how they use historical events - like castatway colonies of former slaves - in an honest way
There is a scene in s01ep07 Hornigold asks Mr Scott what is his secret? Hornigold only wants to know how to deal with Eleanor's personality. But Mr. Scott's face shows hearing the question he's thinking about totally different secrets.
Steven’s “such a good show I’m so fired up.” That is how I felt after every episode from about season one episode seven and onward! How many times I would find myself pacing around my living room I was so into the show I wouldn’t be able to sit still. When I was watching season 3 I barely got any sleep until I was through it; never had seen anything this good on tv ever !!! ((And never have since, but will always have Black Sails !))
Flint to Mr Scott about the Guthries: „I wonder how many know that there was one man standing behind them. Standing behind both thrones, keeping the world spinning“ Season 2, episode 4 Another example of a masterfully written piece of dialogue in this show. All of the twists in this show blew me away on my first watch but what blows me away even more every time I do a rewatch is just how much you notice in the earlier episodes of stuff that is to come in the future.
Not just the words but the way that scene was shot with Flint's face in the foreground but the focus on Mr. Scott's face in the background, clearly hinting at a deeper meaning to those words
The Maroon Queen is intimidating/strong as hell. She has to be to keep a place like that intact. I just wish we could've seen more of Mr. Scott in some capacity at the camp, interacting with the Queen. His calm and her fierceness would make for interesting dialogue. And they'd both be right all the time lol
This show is my first time even seeing Maroons depicted tbh. I know about them because my parents are from the Caribbean. Do you know of any others? Or maybe some movies?
I love how Flint's reputation reaches everywhere. The moment the maroon queen realises who he is, she asks for the quartermaster instead. Presumably Mr. Scott would have told her about Flint and clearly learned of his deceitful nature
Good reaction. I wrote it before and I'll write it again, this show had the bad luck of airing on a smaller premium cable network at a time when GOT and TWD were taking all of the oxygen.
Yo, when I moved from Northern Michigan to South West Florida, the Heat was HORRIBLE! after about 2 months, I was rocking jeans and hoodies again. Once your body is set to the temperture, the clothes don't bother you. But you are right Nikki, that is a lot of wool and leather clothing to be rocking in the sun lol
Nikki & Steven little stikker here. Mr. Scott surprise! I knew you guys would like this little turn of events. When I first saw this, I was like wow. And Silver, aIways comes up with a plan. Love all your videos. Steven your editing is always spot on. Take care. DianeX3
I am enjoying watching you realize how good this story is. There have been some other good TV’s shows, but they did not build and build, Black Sails only goes forward, no fillers. Other mainstream shows have been great but at some point, have crashed & burned, made nonsensical writing decisions or been a victim of they early success and then self sabotaged the story. I have some show recommendation that are equally great at story telling and under appreciated. These are scattered genres.
The scene with the fire ship is historical true. Charles Vane did escape Woode Rogers when Rogers had Vane ship trapped in Nassau Harbor. Vane used a fire ship at night to escape.
Black sails if my favourite TV show of all time. I love how invested and knowledgeable you two are w.r.t the show. 2 episodes in 2 days? Unbelievable. Keep it up you guys, seeing your reaction to every new episode genuinely brightens my day
Charles Vane escaping Woodes Rogers' blockade of Nassau by sending a fireship in the dead of night and burning one of Rogers' ships is apparently historically accurate.
"Flawless to this point" Right you are Steven, there's only one show that compares to its "perfection" and you guys also reacted to it: Breaking Bad (imo)
@@Mic-Mak The first season, especially on the first watch is very dense. People have said it's basically the prologue of the story and I agree. However it does such a good job building the world, characters and setting the pieces in place for the remarkable journey that ensues. So much of what follows wouldn't mean as much if s1 didn't take its time. On rewatches many scenes were so much deeper and meaningful and the foreshadowing was mind blowing. @@Mic-Mak GoT isn't crap; the last season may have been but the first six seasons were stunningly good. There's a reason it's the most reacted to show. But yes, Black Sails is very very deep and it's what is so attractive to me. Same with Lost.

For me they are both near perfect yet Black Sails is so much more complex on multiple levels (storytelling, themes, technically etc) that the overall degree of difficulty to pull it off flawlessly is higher. After anyone who watches Black Sails and has not read the book or at least seen the movie Treasure Island, they should. Black Sails tied in the background of the some of the characters in Treasure Island very well. I would recommend the 1990 movie version of Treasure Island staring Charleton Heston as Long John Silver and a young Christian Bale as Jim Hawkins

Btw you both, I forgot the show doesn`t mention it. Teach is (like Vane, Anne Bonny and Rackham) a historical figure. He had another name you might recognize a little bit better: Blackbird ;)
I enjoy the paternal element delivered from Mr. Teach. He rightly understood Vane's earlier departure as educational progress rather than betrayal. What did Vane learn? Chasing women enthralled by political power is always a bad idea. That old British class structure always rears it's ugly head. Recorded history always seems to neglect to mention that a lot of these Caribbean pirate captains were educated European tradesmen.
The last 3 episodes in this season are so closely knitted together I Almost consider it as one episode. And one of the best, if not best, season ending/finale I’ve ever seen. The last 5 minutes is my all time favourite scenes and when the person is talking about a certain type of leader and the show shows the physical representation of it

I agree this show is great and well thought out.
Fireships were used historically, its one terrifying weapon in the right circumstances as fire is just about the worst thing to happen on a ship.
my girl is finally here! 🎉
I love how you love this incredible show :D
Please keep doing two episodes a week.
Hey you guys know Teach is Blackbeard right? He is perfectly portrayed in this. Love your reactions :)
Thatch = Teach = Blackbeard
Ben Gunn!!!!
is the plan for 2 a week now,hope so!😊
Seriously you've never heard of Edward Teach "The Blackbeard" before?
You guys need to react to Bridgerton… I believe you both will enjoy the fuck out of it…
Watch peaky blinders its really good 👍 love your videos
The last 3 episodes in this season are so closely knitted together I Almost consider it as one episode. And one of the best, if not best, season ending/finale I’ve ever seen. The last 5 minutes is my all time favourite scenes and when the person is talking about a certain type of leader and the show shows the physical representation of it
Teach is Blackbeard, and Blackbeard is a bad bad man!
Guys check some ship fight from the expanse then react to that series It's amazing scfi
You're in luck pal, they've already reacted to all 5 seasons of The Expanse
Well, Vane did kill Eleanor's father last season to get revenge on her for betraying him and stealing his hostage. That tells me he's over her.
React to Peaky blinders next please
Yeah, he still loves her. Doesn’t matter how many times he’s f’d over. Doesn’t matter how much hurt he goes through😏😰🤐
Hey can you guys react to the king of staten Island it's a really funny movie with the pete davidson and mgk or react to big time adolescence
Not really a spoiler cause y’all already know how good the dialogue is but next episodes dialogue is too good
Great lines? Next episode I can give that answer
Ract to "IT" 1 & 2
Daredevil reaction?
