He is 3 year apart , of billy, so he had 3 years to decided , Tunstall, to go home , which took 6 months. Another 3 months in jail for stealing clothes from a Chinese dry cleaning, two months to find out that he was in Scotland …and from there he found home..later he would meet her (sister). Yes it’s possible sister met him.

@@holdencaulfield8429 Tunstall has family members in both Devon and Leeds area, so this is correct and could be true. Tunstall's firearm is in Leeds and can be viewed on display. Even Billy has family members still alive. One of them agreed to have their DNA used to test a grave of someone who may have been Billy. The DNA though of the body was bad and the test was not conclusive. However, that family's DNA (Related to that body) did have a match, not a good one, but one that says they could be related. So, the debate continues if Billy did survive. There are plans for new DNA testing with more advanced technology soon, we shall see how close they are related.

Billy is the biggest folk hero that New Mexico has produced. He deserves a pardon from the government that he was promised. He fought against corruption in the local and state governments while the federal government stood by until the body count became too high to ignore. He was gunned downed like a mad dog. There has never been any justice for Tunstall and McSween. Viva the memory of the Lincoln County Regulators.

Basically this is a good video, however, no matter which side you are on, according to one author, "He is still the most popular man in New Mexico." Rather than a traditional outlaw, who robbed banks, trains, or directly accosting people, he was a victim of circumstance more than anything else, and lacking any trade, he turned to the only way he knew to eke out a living, rustling cattle. One myth recently corrected in our book, Chasing Billy the Kid: Frank Stewart and the Untold Story of the Manhunt for William H. Bonney is the idea that Pat Garrett alone captured Billy at Perea's stone cabin (not a log cabin) at Stinking Spring. As our book shows, a mysterious stock detective named Frank Stewart while co-leader of the posse at Stinking Spring has never received any credit. Our book, published late in 2022 sets the record straight if you want the complete story.

It's leaving a lot out. And there are many who say that
Pat Garret didn't kill the Kid.
Stories of Billy The Kid living long afterward were many and
in the early I think it was, the early 1950's a man by the name of
Brushy Bill Roberts contacted a newspaper reporter to claim he was
Billy The Kid and he wanted to tell his story before he died.
The two movies , Young Guns 1 & 2 describes that in pretty good detail.

Billy the Kid is recorded killing 8 possibly 9. Most were in self-defense and he was never wanted for them. 2 of these were during the cattle war and there is now debate he did it or it cant be proven. So, that leaves about 5 or 6. of these 4 were considered self-defense. So, in truth, he was wanted only for 2 or 3. Billy never had a huge bounty, and his bounty was subject to him being taken alive. He was never ordered to be shot. The Governor at time had his letters asking for a pardon (These can still be viewed). So, we know he was educated and could both write and read. Had he been brought in alive, he likely may have got a small sentence. There is now a debate that Garrett (He was an outlaw himself) knew this and that's why he killed Billy, because of this, though, he never was able to collect on the bounty that said Billy must be brought in alive.
EDIT: New evidence, suggest that the town, he was being held, were supporting him, this is where he got the gun in the outhouse. Who did it is unknown, but it is likely someone in the town that wanted him to escape. The law there was not considered nice and the town was not happy with them, so they had a motive to help Billy. It is when he murdered the lawmen that the town turned on him. We know how he was treated because Billy sent a letter to the Governor and asking for another pardon, claiming mistreatment and asking the Governor not to punish anyone who helped him escape (Which is how we know he had help).

There was a well-documented wake with viewing of the body and a funeral, all overseen by the townsfolk of Fort Sumner. Reports of this were published within days of the event. It's a myth that his body wasn't recovered, or that Garrett hid it somehow. The body was given over to the Kid's friends in the village very shortly after the shooting. Those who were actually there talked about it in published interviews within days of the Kid's death and for decades after.

I started my in depth research on Billy the Kid in 1990, and still watch everything I can n him.
I noticed two very specific things that were glossed over.
The first being the man he shot in a saloon. I find it important to mention that this event was not a murder, but a shooting in self defense. There were witnesses that stated the man had Billy pinned to the floor, and was beating on him. It is on record that the man called him a pimp and a son of a B*&%h. It is commonly believed by historians that he would likely have been acquitted of any charges.
Second, it was reported that the night the Pat Garret killed Billy, that Billy did not know who had come to Pete Maxwell’s ranch. It is said that he went to a dark room asking “who is it”, and Pat Garret shot him. Whether Billy was armed or not is debatable.
I DO appreciate the clarity of Billy not being a “robber”, in that he never robbed banks, trains, or coaches. His stealing was cattle wrestling and for survival.

      @Rollin_L 5 місяців тому +4

You may be thinking of the event in 1950, when an impostor arranged a meeting with the Governor and was not taken seriously, and for good reason. The historical Billy the Kid was denied promised relieve from prosecution, no question. And it was in the mid 1920s that the biography "The Saga of Billy the Kid" by Walter Noble Burns launched the Kid into legendary status. He might have been largely forgotten if not for that book. There are dozens of townsfolk that can be named who saw the Kid's body in 1881, and between 100-200 who attended his burial and likely also saw his body during the wake held by his friends, per those known to have been there. This is really well researched and primary sources established. Conversely, there is nothing but undocumented fairytale in the stories that the Kid survived that night. We may wish the Kid had lived on, but the evidence says otherwise.

I heard historians claim that after his mother died from tuberculosis, his step dad left Billy and his older brother to be separated and raised by other relatives, most likely aunts and uncles. Billy was said then to have left to strike out on his own at a young age where he joined a loose gang where he first learned how to steal cattle and hourses for survival. Hope this helps. Have a blessed day.

You show the sheriff from Blazing Saddles and 2 guys from the Magnificent 7..This takes all your credibility away. Billy shot the town bully in self defense. Garrett rode with him also. You need to read a few books.

I do not believe so, they murdered the closest thing he had to a father, and he went off, before that the dude who he killed had been picking on him for days and when he jumped Billy the dude was twice his size, so Billy shot him. He was not like a Jessie James who robbed banks and trains and shot up towns. History does say that Billy was hell on wheels with a six gun.

America likes to celebrate outlaws, rather conveniently glossing over the fact that outlaws hurt innocent people so they can take what's theirs. I daresay the ranchers who lost cattle to this miscreant are less sympathetic.

Been studying the kid since I was a kid, not justifying the people he murdered but Brady was owned by the Murphy family, it started from Murphy's hatred for Tunstills British background, it was a merchant war. he was a degenarate gamblerr, and because he could read and didnt drink, he thought he had an edge gambling in saloons, he would get his ass handed to him by men while gambling, and then he would steal to get back in poker games, and became a gun for hire and life spirled out of control
