The Truth About The Man Who Killed Billy The Kid

- Billy the Kid may have been just 21 years old when he died, but he had already done enough dangerous living to be one of the most wanted men in America. In fact, Billy had already gone through quite a few aliases and killed multiple people by the time lawman Pat Garrett caught up with him. While Garrett lived far longer than the man he killed, much less is known about him today. Who was the cowboy who took down one of the most famous outlaws of all time? Let’s take a look at the truth about Pat Garrett, the man who killed Billy the Kid.

John Fitzgerald Kennedy

Doc Holliday
Reading the description, I'd like to point out that Wayne Brazel was the uncle of Mac Brazel, the rancher who discovered the UFO wreckage near Roswell. That said, I don't think Garrett actually shot Billy. One of my exes is one of Garrett's descendants and even they have doubts about it. Also, Billy's famous courthouse escape wouldn't have been possible unless Garrett himself was in on it.
@Dean Winchester also he never got the award money!
Garrett could have left the gun in the outhouse-interesting. He was gone as to not be considered an accomplice
Don't think Wayne Brazel killed Pat Garrett either...!
Think PG left Lincoln to give Dolan's deputy Olinger the opportunity to shoot BTK "trying to escape"...saving Pat hanging duties.
The crash site wasn't NEAR Roswell... it was 104 miles away in Corona New Mexico...
My husband and I worked on a Ranch near where the crash happened. It bothers me that Roswell gets all the notoriety,
The military took the "Crash" debris to Roswell...
wow Pat Garret in that photo looks like hes in his 40s, not 29-30 , they sure lived hard lol
Its Garrett. I know that's my family's last.name
@@smhgaming3259 ah! sorry, Garrett :P my cousins first name is Garrett lol
White people always look old... If it wasn't for money they would still look old in their 20s.... 🤷
Garrett was an overrated, cowardly asshole.
Buffalo hunter? Really? How hard was it to hunt buffalo? There were millions of them, they grazed out in the open, had no natural fear of man, and posed giant targets.
He hid in the corner of a dark room, and shot Billy in the back. What a brave 'lawman.'
He deserved to meet the ending that he did.
I'm Waiting For President Donald Trump To Not Only Pardon Billy The Kid/William H. Bonnie But To Bring Out The DNA Evidence That Will Prove Without A Shadow Of A Doubt That Billy Survived The Last Encounter With Pat Garrett, Who Was His Real Life Friend, At Pete Maxwell's Place.
SERIOUSLY!
I BELIEVE THAT BILLY SURVIVED THE WHOLE THING.
Twiggy John-John Merle Emond Gettinby he did he didn’t die not all the documentation I’ve seen
Yes... too late... but I totally agree with you.
Billy the kid died a old man. You can not convince me otherwise
They found his body there was no way he was older than 30
@@smhgaming3259 I don't believe it was him
Where did they find his body
I think Pat Garret lived on too and became famous as the “My Pillow” guy.
OMGOsh he does look like him!!!! Holy Cow!
Pat Garret, did not kill Billy the Kid. No one did. Also, this is only one version of how Pat Garrett died.
"Amen Donna Amen"
Pat didn't deserve to die the way he did - it was a vicious conspiracy and was himself denied justice in death.
Billy the kid didn't get killed by PG. It was just a lie and cover up to get the reward money. He had Billy's own cousin with him looking for Billy which should explain alot.
Exactly
Pat was a bartender at Fort Sumner before becoming a lawman -telling stories and working the angles while barman at Beaver Smith's -got Pat Chisom's support for sherriff.
REALLY... I didn't know that!
How did you find that out...

@@judichristopher4604There is plenty of research on Garrett, including several books. Check out David G. Thomas and his books on Garrett, the Kid, Dave Rudabaugh and other Old West topics. He footnotes to primary sources for everything.
I gaze at this historical figure in the one confirmed and undisputed image of him in wonder at what he was like in life beyond stories and legends.
Always interesting info ty
Witness and ranch hands that knew Billy seen the body and said Garett shot the wrong man and that was not Billy.
Billy died in Dec 1950
I think Garrett let the kid go.
I think he missed Billy would know better than to meet someone in the dark
I totally agree 100%
Think BTK let Garrett go....as did Oliver Lee - Pat would rather " parley"
than shoot it out when things went wrong ..
@@kerrylangman214
HUM... that sounds plausible.
This was just the other day. Wyatt Earp lived long enough
to ride an auto & witness aviation. The kid might have too.
If you do some research you can go to Pat Garrett's murder site outside Las Cruces. There's a simple concrete marker put there by his son. Well worth the short hike if you like this kind of history.
Um no one killed Billy the Kid
I think in the old days out in the West you could get away with a self-defense plea if someone had it in for you, which meant if you shot someone ambush style like the case with Garret you could get off. However, I have a suspicion that people supported Billy the Kid. In the Lincoln County War where the Regulators fought the Santa Fe Ring people were likely to take sides. Billy might have been an outlaw but the Ring was probably worse than Billy ever was. Sheriff Brady, one of Billy's victims, in modern time would be guilty of murder for hire. When Billy escaped after killing two deputies no one attempted to stop him. In fact someone lent Billy a horse which was later returned. From a historical point of view this makes someone wonder what was going on out there.
They also helped him on the horse as he fell off, held his guns and helped him with his shackles.
@@thejamesbondshow9754 Now that should make the historians wonder what's going on.
I always couldn't help but wonder if Brushy Bill Roberts is the real Billy The Kid, then who did Pat Garrett shoot and kill that night and is buried under Billy The Kid's name in Fort Sumner?. Always wondered if it was one of Billy's friends that Pat Garrett shot and claimed was Billy.
PlymouthDuster 225 Garret supposedly killed a guy that was riding with Billy a Mexican guy his name escapes me at the moment
Pete Maxwell thats the guy Garrett is said to have killed and passed off as Billy

Hey guys.
Billy the kids.
Photo is extremely rare.
If you can find a picture of billy the kind or him in his gang.
That is worth millions.
You do that lol
You know what's funny? Emilio Esteves kinda looked like Billy.
Val Kilmer looked exactly like Billy in Gore Vidal's Billy The Kid
here before 1mil gang
You know he had a son Telesfor
See... I never found that out... can you tell me more?it
Wait... You're not Joe Silva over there in Lincoln County New Mexico... are you?
I live in Lincoln County New Mexico for 21 years...
Telesfor was Paulita Maxwell's son -born some years after her marriage into the Jaramillo family ...the boy was named Telesfor after her husband's brother. However Paulita did say there was a girl born in Fort Sumner that looked remarkably like BTK...others said a boy was disguised as a girl for his protection until he was too old to pass off as a girl (Paulita said the girl lived to see 8 years) According to the Santa Rosa supplement on Utube -the boy was called Pat and guess who was the god father !

Until right this minute... I never found out if that was plausible...
I would absolutely love some day to talk to you.
I don't know the History of Billy the Kid... all I know is when I had experienced after I almost died in the FLOOD of 2008 in Lincoln County New Mexico...
THEN... and only then I started asking around.
It is amazing what I felt as a Psychic Medium while writing my manuscript of Billy the Kid.
If you believe in Reincarnation... I feel somehow... I actually knew the truth about Billy, back then... he wasn't the Murder everyone thought he was... Did he kill someone... yes...
What that wrong... Yes...
but in his words, "I had to Kill... or ... be Killed."
Somehow I have to publish my manuscript/book

I know there will be controverse.. but, I know that I know without a shadow of a doubt... what I went through and wrote is the truth the whole truth so help me GOD.
@@judichristopher4604 facing imminent death by flood must have been traumatic ....BTK had escaped death by fire in the McSween house -only to be sitting on the top floor of the nearby Court house...helplessly awaiting his inevitable execution at few years later . You’ll never be me Patsy just the man who killed me 🙌❤️
Billy The Kid died in 1930 . My father met him in 1920.! Billy was around 50 at the time. He told my Father that he was in fact the infamous outlaw. He said that he went to Mexico and returned 20! years later to see his son and daughter which didn't even know who he was. His wife was the daughter of Pete Maxwell. Since he didn't look like the cold blooded killer anymore, Billy could remain in the US.He farmed, raised cattle and prospected a little.he became a great father. He still carried a gun for ' rattlesnakes';he said were everywhere. They had a few drinks and Billy had a loose mouth when high. My father never believed it until after Billy was dead. Billy's wife introduced him to Billy's son He was the image of his Dad. Billy was buried in New Mexico near the Maxwell House. His grave was destroyed by a flood so no one knows where Billy's grave really was. While in the US he called himself William Antrim..He was well liked . Pat Garrett was dead before Billy ever came back to the US. Garrett 's book was all fiction. He actually shot a slim young man and Billy was long gone before Garrett realized that he killed the wrong kid..So Pat wrote a report and took the guy's pistol back to Lincoln County along with "affidavits"that "proved" he shot Billy The Kid. Pat collected the reward and remained Sheriff for years. He published his book,How I Shot Billy The Kid It sold few copies except in the East. Billy never was seen again for 20 years. He was older and had a cheerful demeanor,so everyone liked him.. He had peace and lots of friends. He was a hard worker. He suddenly died from food poison in 1930. Three months after his Birthday. The rest you know. He laughed heartily at the 40 year old men that portrayed him on screen. And the pristine outfits they wore. He never mentioned to anyone that he never wore clothes like that. Billy Roberts knew him but wasn't in any of Billy's various gangs in the ,1880,'s When Billy was dead, Roberts used the stories Billy had told him and in 1951, Roberts tryed to convince everyone that he was really Billy using Billy's stories as proof.. Roberts had green eyes but Billy had clear blue eyes. They looked nothing alike in 1930..Roberts pled to the Governor of New Mexico for the pardon that Lew Wallace had promised Billy The The Kid. Nothing came of it and Roberts died without proof that he was anything more than a con man. But still today the majority of the people that knew Roberts believe his charade..No proof exists at all. Billy's son denied anything concerning Roberts self centered attempts. He said said he knew his real Father and Roberts wasn't him. So much for the legend of Bill Roberts. The son said his Father was a crack shot with both hands. Roberts couldn't hit the side of a barn. Even one of Billy's actual guns he slung on his hip was like a toy in Roberts 'hand.
Oh yah , I don't think so but whatever !
Pat was human and fallible but nobody would have stuck to Billys trail with such patience. Coburn and John Dehner came closest
Legend has it .....
The man didn't know the truth if it bit him in the nose both deputies said he lied and shot the wrong man for the third time yet again. They stated it on their deathbed and said their conscience had been bothering them all these years. Add to that did a very clear-headed daughter of Pat Garrett said that her father admitted to her before his death that he did not kill Billy the kid it was all a cover-up. To the people that said he would not cover it up oh yes he would his job was on the line. He was simply giving the job because he promised to bring in the kid. His daughter and his two deputies alone are enough to convince me I mean dying men normally do not lie and both of them said the same thing. But it is not just those three there's more than 100 people back then who said Billy the kids survived such as the woman who went to church and was never known to tell a lie she said she fed Billy 3 days after July 14th. The problem is you're not going to convince the skeptics I mean I would never be a skeptic because every time although it might take years they are always proven wrong. I mean you got to say Pat Garrett's daughter is a piece of trash and both deputies even though they're on their deathbed when they said it were a piece of trash to believe that Pat Garrett killed Billy the kid as he claimed 100 people versus Pat Garrett I know which way I'm going to believe.and every side I'm on that says Billy the kid was killed by Pat Garrett if I live long enough I'm 50 years old I'm going to come back to that site and then big capital letters I told you so. Jesse James did not survive Bill longley did not survive but Billy the kid and Butch Cassidy both did there's too much evidence to prove they did. Plus they dug up the place where Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid were supposed to be buried and they said neither man was buried there so that was the DNA proof proved that they escaped Bolivia.
Just found out pat garret is my great x3 grandfather shits crazy
All I need to know about Billy the Kid I learned from Young Guns, which is pretty much the most historically accurate movie, like, ever.
Watch Gore Vidal's Billy The Kid with Val Kilmer as Billy!! Spot on portrayal and very accurate. Kilmer is amazing as Billy.
Things always went wrong for Pat - he left Lincoln to let Dolan's deputy Olinger shoot BTK "trying to escape."
