That would have been awesome, but sorry to burst your bubble. Frank was one of the cats bodyguards in book two and he was already wearing sunglasses when the gang met him.
I also really liked this episode- and I kinda find it funny that if the cat had properly examined Hazel in this episode, she might have figured out that she's a denizen an episode early. You could totally see the gears turning in her mind when Grace and Simon told her that One-One turned off Hazel's number. She's an old denizen, she knows what's up. (And Frank? I love him. Amazing. He did like, exactly three things of note in the entire series but he's already become an icon.)
If I could expand on Simon’s prejudice against denizens, have you noticed that Simon refers to One-One as “The False Conductor” more often than Grace does? I counted five verbal uses for Simon - six counting the time he used “fake” in place of “false” in The Jungle Car. The phrase “Down with the False Conductor” is shown spray-painted on the floor of the Mall Car after Simon assumes command of the Apex in The New Apex, giving him a seventh use. Grace and Amelia said “False Conductor” once each in response to Simon’s use of it in The Hey Ho Whoa Car, giving us a total of nine uses in Book 3. Grace prefers to refer to One-One with negative adjectives, calling him “fake,” “fake little robot,” “horrible little robot,” and “evil robot.” Interestingly, Simon and Grace refer to denizens as “nulls” with about the same frequency in Book 3. Simon uses the word eight times and Grace uses it nine times. If we don’t count the three uses from Grace’s explanation of denizens to Hazel in The Color Clock Car, Grace is left with six uses - less than Simon, but still close. With this in mind, I think it would be accurate to say Simon’s prejudice is mostly directed at One-One, the latter’s perceived usurping of the “True Conductor” serving as the ultimate proof that denizens are the enemy.
I finally decided to watch Infinity Train and man, I can’t believe I waited so long to watch this show... It’s freaking amazing! I still can’t get over how well this show builds characters and environments, I got sucked in so fast! The crazy thing is, I probably would have never watched this show if not for your videos. I didn’t even know it existed before I saw your uploads, so thanks for that! Always love hearing your thoughts on shows like these, at times these reviews feel like a second show to watch after finishing the source material. I guess I went on a bit of a tangent here; anyways, thanks for making such awesome videos, and thanks for introducing me to the amazing show that is Infinity Train!
I think it's important that at the end Simon says "Au revoir" which could indicate him coming to see the cat again one day and not A dieu which would mean he never would see her again.
@@cartooncottage2024 yeah, a lot of languages have expressions with god ans saying bye, exemple: portuguese (br at least) has the expression "adeus" (goodbye) meaning "to god". Is really interesting if you think about it
Excellent analysis! Simon is a tragic character to be sure, instead of growth and healing, this poor soul was basically kidnapped as a child, his life stolen and potential twisted, leading to his horrific fate. At best the Train utterly failed him, at worst the Train murdered him.
@Bleh True, he made his own bad choices, but we must still consider his life was stolen from him at a very young age and perverted over many years in such a way his dark fate was sealed. If he had never been kidnapped by the Train he'd be alive and normal citizen like the rest of us (even if whatever internal struggle the Train kidnapped him to resolve was never resolved). His family will never know what happened to their little boy nor obtain his body, and that's a tragedy.
@Bleh It's the classic dichotomy between a Tragedy and a Comedy: a critical flaw is not overcome and leads to disaster/punishment for the character, or a critical flaw is overcome and the character is rewarded. Simon is very much a tragic character for not overcoming his critical flaw like Grace did. I still must call on the ethical existence of the Train beyond a plot vehicle (literally). It doesn't have a great track (pun intended) record for success. Also, if the artificial constructs the Train creates, as tools for the personal development of the people it takes, are actually alive, that opens a whole other can of worms.
Simons character is horrific and borderline Shakespearean and his trauma come from not just from being in the train for so long and Samantha leaving him for dead, but being on the the train for so long with Amelia as the false conductor caused a considerable amount of abandonment issues and childhood trauma. In season two when 1-1 looks for Jessie through the trains computer, you can see grace’s profile and number briefly, the picture of her on the computer is the same age as she is in season 3 which would mean that both her and Simon grew up with the false conductor, both unsure of their purpose on the train.
crazy coincidence I watched all of ur infinity train reviews again today and was really hoping you were going to continue and it’s 4 am and my jaw drops to see this upload!!! so happy I love ur reviews very nice work yet again! :D
I’m so sad this is the last episode of your series! This season was my favorite and I really wanted to hear your analysis of the (absolutely heartbreaking) later episodes of the season
God I wish you got more recognition for your work. Everything you put forward is such high quality content and feels to have so much more of a point as opposed to some other channels analysing cartoons. Thanks for the video, great as always!
Hey ! Welcome back !! Seeing this again made me realized that Simon was always dependant on someone ! First Samantha, then Grace ! Maybe that was the reason he came to the train in the first place ?
Im impressed, well done. Yeah there's studies that prove premature separation can cause children trauma, that seems to stay with them well into adulthood. Causing some kids to form separation anxieties. Also kids who feel that they have been abandoned tend to excibit: especially male children unique traits that are usually self deprecating. In the world of child psychology there are kinship bonds that kids will make in order to get a grasp of the world. If these ties should sever the child would most likely try and find them again but only if they feel it's safe. There are kids in adoptive care that secretly keep there original names despite of what their new parents/ home / school/ government might call them. For them the trauma of separation weighs heavy and only serves to call out their otherness. Never truly safe and tending to move away at a moment's notice these kids form quick easy attachments and regidity in personality. Such trends leaves kids sceptical of any motive that does not forth right become beneficial. Simantha not exactly the best role model we'd probably see Simon go through systems of confinement: if this were the real world, more than a few times. I love Simon though in a fatherly way. [Jake the dog voice] "You're so cute I could just maul you to death" Sad though.

She could round out the trio set up by Hazel and Amelia. She already has the perfect reason: help Amelia with her work so she can leave the train sooner. Maybe they could all discuss their dead loved ones and help each other cope.
Welcome back! Take all the time you need to take care of yourself! I'll still be here whenever you get back. You do really great reviews, and I enjoy your channel a lot
the part i didnt get about apex is,,, you think SOMEBODY would notice “hey my number goes down when i act like a decent human being and it goes up when i commit atrocities, maybe the number should go down”
great analysis! a lot of people ive seen just write simon off as being pure evil or irredeemable but you really seem to understand the tradegy of his character
@Bleh Yeah they definitely have a lot of those little noises. Which was obviously intentional on the part of the creators given they could have easily not included those bits if they wanted. I was more or less referring to the last episode on his super anime throne with billowing bad guy hair lol
The collection room kinda reminds me of the room with all the puppets in it on The Polar Express. Funny enough, also a train car lol, and boy was it CREEPY.
Just saw this got posted, didn't even watch yet, so happy to know you're still around. And wow, what an excellent review! You always have an interesting way of looking at it now that you've gone and seen the entire season, though I suppose a lot of that is probably just hindsight letting you reflect on it so much more~
Loving these analyses on Infinity Train! Got hooked to the show because of you after binging your Adventure Time series. After Infinity Train, would love to hear your take on Obsidian. Personally, I didn't like it since it seemed more of a fanservice for Bubbline fans and didn't offer anything much for the AT series, but I might be wrong!
Honestly after this episode I couldn't fully blame Simone for his actions. I kept thinking if this child hadn't been abducted he would lived quite life with some character flaws. Doesn't seem it seem super dangerous that oneone hasn't tried to fix the trains current problems before allowing new people on?
I love how the train is more and more implied to be a flawed system as the show goes on. Simon's specific case wouldn't have gone so wrong if it weren't for the train's interference. Yes, he had problems that led him to the train taking him in the first place, but without the train being as obtuse and not being clear with its purpose, he was led to believe the numbers going up was a GOOD thing, which led him to do bad stuff, which led him to well, yeah. You can definitely put blame on him, don't get me wrong, if he hasn't gotten into the train it's possible he could go into another harmful way on his life, but the train itself was at least one of the causes, and outside of it Simon could have also gotten better naturally. The train is NOT as good at helping people solve their problems as it wants to be, and that caused all this.
@Bleh I imagine that's on response to Jonathan Hall? Because if it's a reply to me you're missing the parts in which I said Simon has fault, yes. My message was talking about how even though everything Simon did was his fault and it turned him into a murderer, everything can also be traced back to the train being highly imperfect. The creators made a point of making the train serve as an explanation of how he ended up like that. He now is a murderer, but without the train's interference in this specific case, it might not have ended that way. It IS Simon's fault and he sucks. Having an explanation to what led him to suck is not having an EXCUSE to why he sucks. I have no sympathy for the way he is right now, but I do understand the system of the train is imperfect and led him to that. It doesn't lead EVERYONE to that, but that possibility is still there, and it led HIM that way. That makes it an imperfect system.
Even if nobody else on the train is like Simon, the fact you can trace his biggest mistakes to the train being imperfect means the train has the power to cause that, and that's horrible enough as it is. It doesn't make it less bad that Simon is how he is, but it explains his mindset even if it doesn't excuse it.
I wonder if Frank got his shades from Jesse. Jessie was putting shades on almost everybody he met on his journey through the train.
That’s kind of random but it does make sense. Fun theory.
That would have been awesome, but sorry to burst your bubble. Frank was one of the cats bodyguards in book two and he was already wearing sunglasses when the gang met him.

I think it's important that at the end Simon says "Au revoir" which could indicate him coming to see the cat again one day and not A dieu which would mean he never would see her again.
Fun facts: dieu’s root is deus, “God”. And “goodbye” is a contraction of “God be with you”.
@@LordTelperion Really? Wow! That is an interesting etymological fact.
