- I asked on Twitter what food and snacks I should try while I'm still in Finland and you guys suggested some of the weirdest things I'd ever seen like: Mustamakkara, Leipäjuusto and Salmiakki Chocolate!

Bitter as ginger ale. Also its flavour is undescripably awful. It's like any other food: there's always someone that doesn't like it. With salmiakki there just happens to be a big crowd for who knows what reasons.
I also love salmiakka and I love chocolate but I hate that Fazer salmiakki chocolate.

Random fact about Salmiakki: It was first created as a medicine (or so I remember), but it became so popular, that someone decided to make it into a sweet (yeah, sweet to us) candy.
It's always nice to see people outside Finland trying our foods and drinks. Great video Dave.

The salmiakki chocolate is probably my all time favorite Fazer product I love it!!
You should warm up "juustoleipä" (I call it like that) before eating it. Like in microwave 30 sec with full power. Then add some cloudberry jam on the "bread cheese" and Voila, U have it like it should be eaten. I also recommend that You go to find some fresh cloudberries from swamp. Usually u will found those on June but on July when its enough warm to ripe berries, U can collect them. And then, taste without sugar.
You have to taste kismet in three flavours marianne, fazerina and lakritsi or it's salmiakki sorry dave :D and fanta mansikka twist.

Finnish kids call leipäjuusto 'narinajuusto' here where I live, literally 'squeaky cheese', because of the noise you hear when eating it.

I'm not sure if it can be found anywhere at this time of the year, but if you can I really encourage you to try Mämmi, it's a traditional Finnish desert which usually eaten at or around Easter :)

I dont like cold Leipäjuusto, but if you heat it, or make Leipäjuustokeitto it is amazing.
if you add cloud berry or any other jam on your leipäjuusto, you are supposed to warm the cheese first. If you don't warm it, you can eat it alone or in a salad or something towards those lines
Also it's considered a dessert when eaten with the sweet jam.

You have to eat blood pancakes with little bit a butter, then it is 5/5 :D and dont worry, I am from Finland and I hate salmiakki, never liked that :|
I warmed them up in butter on the pan, but I guess I needed a bit more xD

With leipäjuusto, you can eat it cold and that's totally fine, but it tastes the best when you heat it up a smidge in the microwave (so it just gets warm and soft), then eat it with the cloudberry jam. Blood sausage: get the kind that's sold in the grill at the grocery store. That's fresh and warm. The prepackaged one isn't nearly as good. Blood pancakes... well, it's prepackaged food so it's always going to be just sort of watery and gritty. Both are good with ketchup though, if you're feeling adventurous.

Try that leipäjuusto (squeeky cheese) with smoked reindeer or horse. Warm it up in a microwave first.
It goes also well in salads.
You can eat leipäjuusto in cold or heated in oven. If you like a lingonberry. Try lappapuuro (vispipuuro) it is lingonberry porridge.
I absolutely love the Vichy Salmiakki! It's mineral fizzy water with a hint of the salty goodness! :3

I’m half Finnish so I don’t know if this is something only my family do just as a result of our cultures mixing and us being weird.... but we cut the juustoleipä into cubes and put it in our tea/coffee... delicious 😄
That Leipäjuusto is very good, but it have to be fresh home made, if you still have it you can use it in hot coffee, just crumble it inside and enjoy. Thats a traditional way to use, when you are hiking in wilderness and dont want to carry milk with you. And salmiakki, you like it or not, thats the way it is :) Go prisma, or any other bigger store, and try to find SULTSINA, this one you like. Silli with potatoes, try different Silli can, many choises. Goodluck and enjoy.

did you eat those blood pankakes and blood sausage cold??? If you did, please try them warm.. I also warm/melt my leipäjuusto always, cause it tastes 100 times better warm and looses part of the "squeeze" too!!!

Leipäjuusto is called squeaky cheese (gnisselost in swedish) for a reason. It tastes better if you melt it in the oven.
You should get someone to make the blood pancakes himself instead of eating the factory-made ones! Get blood (frozen from supermarket), rye flour, beer, fried onion and some salt and fry them in a pan with butter! Also the bread cheese (or squeaky cheese as I call it) get super-hyper delicious if prepared like this: put a desired piece in a small oven dish, pour cream on top of it and bake in the oven. Serve hot with cloudberry or raspberry jam :) PS Salmiakki is just the best! PPS If you are tired of trying salmiakki stuff you should try tar ice cream, it is The Stuff!
