That would be kind of impossible though. Even if the planes would've impacted way lower, one-sided and made sure to destroy all the core beams, the weight of those buildings were so large, any kind of initial topple angle would already cause so much stress, that the whole thing just starts sandwiching floors underneath and it would still appear as a mostly straight collapse. For example the south tower actually was mostly weakened one sided and when the collapse began, the top part toppled like 35 degrees or so, but with a weight of roughly the titanic, it still went straight down.
Let me correct you on something, the WTC twin towers were taller in terms of ceiling height but the the petronas towers were considered taller just because of the spires

I was a kid so I guess it didn't take much, but for people who never got a chance to see the twin towers in person, videos and pictures don't do it justice on how massive the buildings were, just as these buildings standing side by side like that.
I had a dream in the late 90's that I was in one of these towers. I was in business attire. Suddenly there was a huge explosion and I knew I had to make it to the sky bridge and run to the other tower. I was flat out sprinting for my life. I got half way across and I felt and heard an explosion and knew that both towers were experiencing something catastrophic. I decided to press on to the other tower anyway. A group of people and I decided to take a chance and get in an elevator...it went into a freefall and slammed onto the bottom floor. The doors flew open and I knew I would die!

I beleive their design is based on the minarets of an early mosque somewhere. Osaka in Japan has some "twin towers" near Umeda, in the north of the main city. My job had a Christmas party there once. They only really dominate their immediate area, and don't seem that tall from a distance. Tall enough for me when I was up there, though! Osaka also has the Sky Garden, which is two very narrow twin towers with a shared roof / observation deck. The escalator to get onto the roof goes "outside"!
