My students have some of the most insightful discussions about this book and the book Henry's Freedom Box by Ellen Levine. They're non-fiction and both books introduce them to other players in Black History who are not just MLK, Ruby Bridges, Rosa Parks, and Harriet Tubman - They already know those stories from Kinder/1st/2nd grade.
This was the best! When you laugh and learn, you learn so much more. I would have had to read of 10 hours of boring history to understand this like I did in 5 minutes. Keep up the great work and keep history relevant.
