And here you are pretending that pointing out nitrogen scattering blue light makes the sky appear blue is a "defense" of daylight. Border agency powers are established by legislation rather than physics, but they are still facts and a part of our reality. You don't like it, you're welcome to try to change it - but you're going to have a tough slog, since Canada only implemented the practice 2 years after the US did, and are unlikely to rescind it unless the US does. And the US is highly unlikely to do so because they are catching far too many smugglers this way - particularly for human trafficking - to be willing to give it up. The shock of discovering that citizens of country A do not have rights in country B is something that most Americans experience for the first time as they are crossing a border, because you propagandize yourselves so heavily you think your rules apply everywhere. Canada actually has very similar citizens' rights to the US, although they are more strictly enforced (cops can't just go over to the next county and get rehired), but they are not the same. When you have Siri’s problems like this, the soldier needs to go to the chaplain, and the chaplain will help him out of his problem. I do not understand why the soldiers do not know this
Why would ANYONE want to travel to a place where a form of authority searches your phone? That's absolutely insane.
you ever been to the US, they have same rights to search at border
Ur overprivileged softness is showing 😂
Same in Europe
I don’t know why people are surprised? They do this or something similar to this pretty much everywhere
@@yutyuiiu Hahahahah no they dont. You have rights in America

No battle buddy, so no.
I get the impression in the comments Americans think of Canada as their little brother rather then an independent proud nation that can do its own border controls.
All those people blaming Canada for confronting an AWOL US soldier aren’t from either country. We protect each others back

they are like this and worse (or better at getting in your face)
I get the impression that border guards treat their citizens better than foreigners, no matter what country they are from/
They are like this. The US CBP searches phones, laptops, etc routinely.
Wonder why they were questioning him in the first place. Guess we will never know. We have extradition laws people.
I love reading how people are commenting why they a care if he's going awal. They so security checks because they don't want criminals in Canada especially American criminals

I didn't know Canada and Nazo Germany had so much in common.
You aren’t that bright are you
in what way?
Nashe Germany cared for Germans LOL
If you look at any of the other hundreds of comments you will see that both Canadian and American border officers can do this, it is not exclusively a Canadian border rule
So canada is similar to nazo germany cause they refused entry to an american criminal? U were born of incest weren’t ya? A little too many extra chromosomes
Wtf... They went through his phone
Border guards - on both sides - have the right. You do not have the protections of a citizen if you are not a citizen, btw, so while they do have the authority to go through anyone's phone, the fact you think your US citizenship "protects" you from Canadian law enforcement is majorly stupid.
@@alisoncowan9522he never said anything like that, what's stupid is the fact that you're defending the border agents abilities to do this in the first place
@@HarrisChoudhry Am I "defending" gravity when I point out that things mass are attracted to each other? It's not a "defense" to point out facts. Border agents are not police, and crossing a border is not crossing a street. These are facts. "Wtf" is a clear expression of shock, demonstrating that the OP was not aware of these facts.
And Canadians are not citizens of the US, nor are Americans citizens of Canada.
These are facts.
@@HarrisChoudhry why is it stupid?
@@HarrisChoudhry so you like open borders then? What is stupid is anyone getting upset that a border agency caught a criminal. In NO way is catching criminals and stopping them a bad thing. These agents get top marks.
The fact that they go through your phone is just unacceptable. No way are they doing that to me.
Well that’s easy, just don’t go to Canada, otherwise, your not going to get out of it.
The US CBP does it too. In fact hundreds of countries do.
The rights that the border protection officers are given (in almost all countries) are much much higher than your police officer on the streets.
@@nhlpa17No they don't. Barely any countries casually check your private phone if you aren't doing anything illegal.

I couldn't imagine the US welcoming me if I went there just to avoid Canadian jail time, I have no right to enter the US, it is a privlage. That country belongs to the American people and border services are there to protect it.
I wonder why so many commenters take umbrage when Canada prevents a person in the act of breaking American laws from escaping to Canada.

Like the reason we went to Afghanistan and suddenly the opium poppy production increased 10x in just a few years while being guarded by the U.S. military. And what followed was the opiate epidemic that was created by the same pharmaceutical interest groups. Also, the worlds largest lithium ion vein is in Afghanistan. If you are a U.S. soldier, you dont have to carry your leave papers... or show anybody your leave papers (not sure about going into Canada)
If you are leaving the country you must have your leave paperwork with you. Technically you are always supposed to have your leave paperwork on you it's just not enforced for the most part.
No respect for Canadian law, you can buy LSD at a head shop yet the police can go through your phone without legal cause. I don't know how these slime balls can live with themselves.
