- Daniil Kvyat is mostly known for having the nickname "torpedo" thanks to Sebastian Vettel, but he was also a quick driver on his day. Daniil Kvyat's talent in karting caught the attention of Red Bull, and he was soon a member of their junior team. Daniil Kvyat found himself driving for Toro Rosso full time in 2014, and just one year later, he was a Red Bull driver. But what happened? Why was he replaced by Max Verstappen, and how did his time in F1 come to a close? Enjoy!

Just compare Sainz en Kvyat. Over 2016 and 2017 combined while both were teammates Kvyat scored a total of 8 points, Sainz scored 90 points.
Kvyat has some of the worst stats compared to teammates in the history of the sport. Don't blame Red Bull for it, they kept giving Kvyat more and more chances even though he performed like absolute shit every single season. Gasly immediately outscored Kvyat in 2019 when Gasly was demoted back to Toro Rosso and Gasly outscored Kvyat again in 2020 with 75 to 32.
What more needs to be said? You can't have 5 consecutive absolutely horrible seasons and still expect to have a seat in F1. Red Bull gave Kvyat plenty of chances, no other team was even remotely interested.

Josh Revell made a good point in one of his older videos that Kvyat should’ve been promoted for the remainder of the 2019 to see if he was a good candidate for the RB seat full time. Then Gasly and Albon could’ve been evaluated for their skills while at Toro Rosso.

Correction, Ricciardo didn't win any races in 2015. Only Hamilton, Rosberg and Vettel won races that year. But Ricciardo scored two podiums to Kvyat's one even though Kvyat finished just ahead of him in the standings like you said.
The only time when Ricciardo had a chance to won in 2015 was the USGP, unfortunately he's failed (only finished the race in P10).
2015 was the only bad season for Red Bull since 2009 - They were getting beaten by Williams and Force India

One of the drivers I feel bad for, didn’t deserve to get treated like that, but the decision was deemed good when verstappen won when he pulled up. Wish kvyat had a proper chance with Ferrari and atleast drove for Sauber under Ferraris contract
And in all honesty I think he would’ve made a great number 2 to max at redbull in 2019+ if they would’ve taken him over Alex. It’d already been proven he’s got speed in a car with the characteristics of the redbull, and he’d matured alot as a racer (some of his moves in 2019 were the best that year). He definitely wouldn’t have been as fast as max but he would’ve been able to pick up the pieces had someone went wrong on max side and pick up regular podiums and good points scoring positions. I could see him still being there today, and I’d imagine he would’ve done a better job than checo has.
Considering he took out vettel twice in China and Russia 2016 I doubt Ferrari will would have gave him a seat😅, but he was a good third development driver

The 'Max took his job, girlfriend, child' comments are so damn annoying. Daniil left Kelly when their child was 6 months old. Max and Kelly started dating like a year after that. Stop making Daniil the poor, poor victim when he in fact left his family himself.

Well just because one driver didn’t have a great stint in F1 that doesn’t necessarily mean that they had a bad racing career. We’ve seen plenty of drivers who went on to find better success in other categories of motorsport.
Take Antonio Giovinazzi for example, we know that he didn’t have to best career in F1, but in the WEC he went on to become a 24 Hours of LeMans winner!
So yeah maybe it’s possible that Daniil could possibly bring his racing career back on top again without F1. 👍

If I remember correctly, in 2015, Max Verstappen was contracted directly to Red Bull Racing, NOT Toro Rosso like Sainz. This meant that Max was always going to end up at RBR anyway, ofcourse at the expense of one of its drivers. Kvyat making those mistakes was the perfect scenario for RBR to get the move done. Someone correct me on this if I'm wrong, because I can't find the exact story about it anymore.
I think you're almost right, he had a contract for 2017 at RB (not sure if it was official or unofficial), but ferrari were knocking on the door with negotiations so RB got the move done as fast as they could to secure him
No chance redbull would have put max at 17 directly at redbull they had to put him in toro rosso first bare in mind he even skipped F2 for that
@@best___0999 from what ive heard, he was actually signed to rbr and not toro rosso, but they had to put him there because mercedes had almost got him signed for f2. as such, rb had to use their one trump card - a straight f1 seat. i may be wrong tho

Nah that was just lucky. He was at the back for most of the race whilst Albon was driving top 6 in a wet track that everyone was struggling with. He had nothing to lose by coming to pit for softs early and get a jump which is what Stroll also did.
To this day I wear my DK26 toro Rosso shirt with pride, Daniil will always be my driver

I think the decision to replace Kvyat was what ultimately spiralled into the cursed second Red Bull seat.
I wonder what would have happened if Kvyat was put in Red Bull instead of Gasly and later Albon. I think he would have performed better than two of them but relations between him and Max might have been awkward.

Actually, he performed in three or somewhat nascar road course races. He even drove from 38 to 26 place one time, but never finished due to technical failures.

I always had and still have mix feelings on daniil:
On one hand he (and this is my passport talking) he robbed an f1 opportunity for Antonio Felix da Costa in 2014, just because Russia Lobbied his entry.
On the other hand he was pretty impressive on a number of ocasions like his first gp, the 2015 hungary GP, the 2016 China GP, the 2019 Germany GP and the 2020 Imola GP.
But then he was also terrible mid or even worse on a bad day. Like i remenber the 2020 portuguese GP when Gasly was pushing the field while Kvyatt was just in last...

There is a wrong wording in the Albon part, Kvyat was stuck 'himself', he went crazier by the race to 'perform' better. Albon had a huge pressure on his shoulder to not only go against the then 'wunderkind' Verstappen, but the races he was at his very best he got pretty unlucky (twice by Hamilton, one where he couldve won the race).
Technically, maybe it would be lucky, if not Helmut Marko's decision, he is a big threat actually

Sounds like a couple of “non ordinary” decisions were made when it came to Gasly and Albon, who ultimately lasted how long after that. Looking back Keeping Daniel Kviat SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE the decision that was made. You know for a really smart race team, they sure make their fair share of mistakes or errors in judgement when it comes to a few of their academy drivers. Hope Lawson doesn’t fall into this category.
Am I the only Sebastian Vettel's fan who's also feel so sorry for Daniil Kvyat? If I Sebastian Vettel, I probably will never regret to already called him as the torpedo, but on the other side I also will say that the karma that he received is too hard. If I Helmut Marko, this is my scenario: I will release Pierre Gasly to the Renault team in the 2017 season and beyond, retained both of Daniil Kvyat and Carlos Sainz Jr. until the end of the 2018 season, then release Carlos Sainz Jr. to the McLaren team in the 2019 season and beyond and replaced his position with either Alexander Albon or Brendon Hartley for the 2019 and 2020 seasons, then release Daniil Kvyat out of the Red Bull's sister team and retained Alexander Albon and partnering with Yuki Tsunoda for the 2021 season, then release Alexander Albon for the Williams Racing team in the 2022 season and beyond, and replaced his position with Oscar Piastri.

It’s crazy how turbulent his career was. Kvyat should’ve been what Carlos Sainz ended up becoming. I fully believe he was on his way to that level of consistency before RB jumped the gun and completely neutered him with that seat swap after one mistake. That level of betrayal completely wrecks your confidence and clearly destroyed him psychologically. He went from being someone who killed Carlos in the lower categories when they were teammates to the complete opposite in F1. They had 4 extremely strong drivers and traded them all in eventually for 1 inadvertently through that seat swap.
Ricciardo didn’t win a race in 2015.
So just look at his wiki page, repeat it in a video, don't care about mistakes and important things left out that viewers will remind you of, and profit.
