People say Lewis lost because of Malaysia, but for anyone who actually watched the season, they'd know it was Lewis' horrible starts where he lost tons of points.
Not quite. Even with horrible starts, Lewis would catch up to Rosberg and fight for wins. He isn't a only win from the front driver after all. Lewis lost tones of points due to most mechanical failures happening to his car that year. There were of course, other factors. One being Mercedes manipulations. One undeniable thing they did was give Nico Lewis' team even though he was the champion. 2023 proved that they are not beyond messing up Hamilton's race to get the results they want. I think 2016 was in part a gift for Nico. But even with that, he still had to fight for it. He quit because he knew things were never gonna align for him the way they did that year in order to beat Lewis. Am I saying he did not deserve the title? No. He put together a kickass season. Making sure he always finished 2nd when he couldn't win. Am I sad he quit when he did? Absolutely! 2014-2016 would have been as mind numbing boring as 2022 without him. Fortunately for us, 2017- 2018, Ferrari gave Vettel a good car and Red Bull were always there, so we had some good fights.
@@brattpack Not quite. Suzuka 2016 was the most important race that year, Lewis made one of his trademark horrible starts and finished third, Rosberg drove flawlessly and won. After that Nico only needed to finish on the podium to seal the title and drove cautiously for the next three races, when he pulled off and wont the title. Rosberg had the same number of mechanical issues as Lewis. Nico could have won silverstone if it was not for engine issues. Both drivers had the same number of mechanical issues in 2016. Lewis just made way to many errors and Nico was more consistent.
If there was a F1 hall of fame (which there totally should be) both Nico and Keke Rosberg would both be shoe ins, the only father-son duo to both win world championships

I cannot wait for Lewis' memo about the two of them that is yet to be explained. Nico is one of the most likeable people(this is coming from a diehard Lewis fan). I thrive for another "Nico" type of driver and personality to lie once more on the grid.
Its sure to explain the role of Paddy Lowe and why he had to resign, The team swap, the 4 suspicious DNFs of a merc PU on only one car, The monaco qualify red flag saga etc.
People really are ignoring that he was a really good driver. His Williams days showed his skill. He was quick over one lap and his race pace was excellent. Only in the wet he wasn’t the best, something he also knew. Probably in the top 5 list of drivers in his generation.
Nico was always a class act. A great driver, and an ever better person who's never been involved in drama neither had bad things to say about any driver. He really deserved more than just one WC in F1.
2016 Rosberg me ght be the most motivated driver in F1 history period. He come with a mission and do everything to achieve it. Once its done. Its done.
He's the prime example that you can only do so much with magnitudes of effort against someone who has innate talent to begin with. nonetheless, what a great feat by Nico, man punched above his weight class.
Alternatively phrased, he’s a prime example of how far hard work and self-belief can get you in life, even if you lack the generational talent that other people have.
Nico deserves more recognition for showing us how to race these circuits in the video games! Lmao nothing like getting driving tips from an actual F1 champion
The Man who's finished 2nd in the last four races is gonna come home and hit the jackpot in Monaco, Nico Rosberg wins the Monaco grand prix - Crofty, Monaco 2014.
While it may have seemed odd to some when he announced his retirement, when you know what he put himself through to achieve that title it’s perfectly understandable that he felt that it was unsustainable.
I find it impressive all that extreme preparation he went through to win the title by just 5 points over the then partying/socialite Lewis. Ultimately it was a shame he didn't come back for 2017.
Fantastic video. I always wanted to learn more about Nico and you did all the hard work to sum it all up. Thank you. I love Nico as a sky pundit, now I know why he seems so intelligent.

I really admire him because he only ever wanted to be an F1 World Champion and never needed the money. I always thought when he was batting Hamilton that he would retire once he won the title.
People underrate him, but he was one of the best of the last 20 years. He just never had the car to show it, and when he had it, he had generational-talent lewis as his teammate Norris may end up like him if he joins rb, ferrari, or if his team becomes competitive and another big talent joins him
9:29 Didn't see that coming, tho. 🤣🤣🤣 Last race of 2016, I don't think Seb really pressurised Nico. I watched that race despite not being an F1 fan back then, I was only curious since the news were all over this massive silver arrows battle in the last round. I saw no serious move from Seb. I mean, let's be frank here, Seb is a German, Nico is a German, why would Seb want to deny another title for the country when he really had nothing to lose back then? So in a way, Lewis' strategy in slowing the pace to make Nico got caught up in the pack didn't really work since it was Seb who sat in 3rd. If it were Max or Daniel, maybe it would be a different story. Even if it were Kimi, I don't think Kimi would take that 2nd place, since Nico can also be a Finnish in Kimi's eye. 🤝🏼
nico is finnish german who lives in monaco. If there was any help from seb, It has nothing to do with the driver's nationality. more about which driver did seb prefer to win.
@@arc4055 Bro people only care about what flag people driver under, it's not like Germany looked up Nico's ancestry results and decided 2016 was only half of a victory.
Had Nico Hülkenberg joined Merc instead of Lewis in 2013 Nico Rosberg would be almost certainly a 7-time world champion and considered one of the goats. He was like an A-/A driver, blazingly fast, almost a generational talent. The golden boy, son of a world champion BUT Lewis is like an A+ driver, just above Nico in skill but not by much. Edit. I know what some of ya'll are thinking and no, Seb wouldn't have won either in 2017 or 2018. Ferrari has been cursed ever since 2008 when they decided to "sabotage" Kimi and favour Felipe to get Alonso in a year early
I think we all agree that Nico's key to lace wad likely his intelligence, and used it to great effect. As much as that's how he naturally is, I wonder how he may have raced had he let "feel" and instinct take over when racing. Sometimes I feel he played the % too much, rather than taking a risk and making it pay off. I still think he had more to give after he beat Hamilton, gutted he didn't stick around for another season or two.
It's no suprise that Nico scored the highest on the engineering test He was the only one who was able to fix the setting problem in just like 2 seconds while his former teammate couldn't figure out what it is for the whole race
Very good driver who made an impact from the day he joined the grid in 2006. I remember initially thinking he got that seat because his dad was ex-F1. It took watching him in practice sessions before the season began to make me realise he was the real deal. It was clear he was the crown prince of F1 as the new King Alonso was cementing his stake on the crown. At that point, Kimi just never looked able to mount a season long challenge without some issues. It took an amazing car and Lewis joining Mercedes to really bring the best out of Nico. I still find it strange that there are some people that rate Nico so highly purely due to his battles and eventual victory over Lewis and yet they think Hamilton is not good for the sport and is only good when the car is unbeatable. Nico was a very good driver. Lewis stands one of the best in any era of the sport. The two of them in the same team? Box Office.
@Commudus 3-1in equal machinery. It just shows that Lewis is the standard and despite the circumstances. They cherish the only win as if it's a trophy too. Lol

I think Hamilton is the goat and that’s why I know Rosberg is good. Also it’s clear when he would speak in press conferences that he was smart…. Smarter than most if not all drivers in terms of how he would explain the technical parts of his driving or the car set up etc
Is that Nico Rosberg? The Monaco Based UA-camr and Keke Rosberg's son who beat the 7x time FIA Formula 1 World Champion Sir. Lewis Hamilton in equally machinery
The guy who beat Lewis and the Team behind Lewis in the same machinery. Yet fans still don't give him enough credit and would say he ran, of course you would retire because Merc would not let him have the last laugh. Look at what Merc did after he left, hired Bottas. Remember how livid Lewis was when George signed for this year. Yeah, its pretty obvious why Nico had the last laugh on Lewis.
When was Hamilton livid? Mercedes asked both Vettel and Verstappen to join the team which both declined. Hamilton doesn’t have a say for teammates and doesn’t fear them. Bottas was kept on one year contracts to get someone else. Rosberg, despite being a good driver, was extremely lucky and put everything he had to beat his teammate. Lost weight, muscle mass in the legs and had a cold relationship with his family. Needed a change in the pit crew and engineers to destroy Hamilton’s side of the garage.

Man if Rosberg continued I felt like he had more in him but the best thing is that he's happy, I only have praise for Nico
If there was a F1 hall of fame (which there totally should be) both Nico and Keke Rosberg would both be shoe ins, the only father-son duo to both win world championships
Love the Video mate, nico is by far my favourite world champion of the 2010's!
Thank you bro! He was a beast on his day 🔥
Considering there are only 3 champions in the entire 2010's.
He was an excellent driver but he's too salty despite running away from the fight that was coming back for him.

Wait, Nico Rosberg? the guy that beat 5 time point scorer Kazuki Nakajima in equal machinery?
Schumi as well
I cannot wait for Lewis' memo about the two of them that is yet to be explained.

Even when Nico was at Williams I had a feeling he would be WDC at some point.
I started watching F1 again in 2012 and got that feeling after his win in China, I thought that he was a champion in the making.
Nico was always a class act. A great driver, and an ever better person who's never been involved in drama neither had bad things to say about any driver.
He really deserved more than just one WC in F1.
I respect the amount of languages that Nico is fluent in. Wow 👏🏻
Watched this whole video waiting patiently for the last line 😂 - great content!!! 2016 Nico was the peak of villain eras.
He's underrated. Great video mate.

Well, he had accomplished everything he ever wanted. So was there really a point in continuing when you had completed all your goals?
@@RACINGUS95 Sure, he had every right to do so, but he was only 31 and I will always be curious on how would he be able to defend his title.
I agree, but he didn't want to go through the mental exhaustion of competing with Lewis for another year. So that's why he dipped.
If he could put his 2016 prep routine into a book, I’d definitely buy it.
ngl, spent a minute looking for Equal machinery on the thumbnail.

Fantastic video. I always wanted to learn more about Nico and you did all the hard work to sum it all up. Thank you. I love Nico as a sky pundit, now I know why he seems so intelligent.

Frank William's said he underrated Nico. I was surprised how consistent he was in beating Michael and how he breat Lewis to the 2016 championship.
I really admire him because he only ever wanted to be an F1 World Champion and never needed the money. I always thought when he was batting Hamilton that he would retire once he won the title.
People underrate him, but he was one of the best of the last 20 years. He just never had the car to show it, and when he had it, he had generational-talent lewis as his teammate
Norris may end up like him if he joins rb, ferrari, or if his team becomes competitive and another big talent joins him
9:29 Didn't see that coming, tho. 🤣🤣🤣
Last race of 2016, I don't think Seb really pressurised Nico.
Yeah it's common knowledge Seb was protecting Nico from Max, if not common knowledge then denial. All fair game tho.
nico is finnish german who lives in monaco.
And nico would get the hate lewis gets.

@@swampthing94 nope. Nico would never receive the hate lewis gets
Nico also won in Monza in 2016
It's no suprise that Nico scored the highest on the engineering test He was the only one who was able to fix the setting problem in just like 2 seconds while his former teammate couldn't figure out what it is for the whole race
Box Office.

they guy that beat lewis in equal machinery?

Is that Nico Rosberg? The Monaco Based UA-camr and Keke Rosberg's son who beat the 7x time FIA Formula 1 World Champion Sir. Lewis Hamilton in equally machinery
Determination vs talent
The guy who beat Lewis and the Team behind Lewis in the same machinery. Yet fans still don't give him enough credit and would say he ran, of course you would retire because Merc would not let him have the last laugh. Look at what Merc did after he left, hired Bottas. Remember how livid Lewis was when George signed for this year. Yeah, its pretty obvious why Nico had the last laugh on Lewis.
Hamilton had it by far way to easy the last years. Lets see how he does with pressure and george
@@maximilianschroder5206 Hahaha, had it to easy because he had a cooperative teammate when title battles went against another team? You guys hated on Bottas for helping him while praising Perez to be Verstappens lapdog.
@Maximilian Schröder much to the dismay of Hamilton Fans, after Alonso which we all know how badly that ended up. Heiki Kovalienen as a teammate was garbage, Jenson during the tenure at Mclaren beat him on points, Of course he beat Nico and Nico came back fighting and beat him badly he requested a weaker Bottas.
