Today we are looking at a stunning Rolex Explorer alternative from Clemence Watches.
www.clemencewa...
This is no homage and stands tall on its own with excellent build quality and finishing that is usually only seen on watches far in excess of its modest price point.
The watch industry needs microbrands like Clemence if the traditional watch-making industry is to survive.
If this is the standard that Clemence can produce at very reasonable prices then I think the watch industry will be just fine.
Some cannot see past the Rolex Explorer but there are contenders out there that make a mockery of the big names and their pricing strategies!
The Munro is due to re-stock imminently so make sure you head over to
www.clemencewa...
and sign up for their newsletter to have a chance to procure this stunning watch.

I am not affiliated to clemence watches in any way and the watch shown in the presentation is my personal watch for which I paid full price.

I would value reviews from those that haven’t been sent watches free of charge. Who wouldn’t give a glowing review to a £500+ watch that’s was free.
You obviously did not pay attention. This is my watch. There is no promotion in this video. I paid for this watch in full with zero discount. Btw can I ask...do you get paid for your work?
I thought so.
Why shouldn't those who take two days to make a video get paid? You work for a company that presumably sells products and advertises those products far and wide . I would suggest that you go ask your boss not to pay you now that you know!
Yeah, and I also bought a model after the review, the review model wasn't sent for free it was a prototype to review. Mate...
Nice review, I like your photography, Clemence should have a link to this on their website. That is a great looking watch with a good movement, in many ways it is the equal of an Explorer. Have a good break John 👍
"Before I swan off on holiday for seven weeks, I'll just make sure that Bob has to live on bread and water."
Very clean indeed. The multicolored dial is unexpected and I do see the minimalist design of the mountains. A wee beauty 🤩
Nice enough but the clasp, like the classic Seiko SARB’s, doesn’t appear sit flush to the bracelet which wasn’t acceptable then and certainly isn’t now. The Hamilton Khaki Automatic is £640 at list price and is in a totally different league for me at least.
*test comment, to make sure John is off on his vacation, and NOT CHECKING THE COMMENTS* 😉
Looks like an amazing watch
I think John might have notifications on for the replies 😉
It's a stunning looking piece but for me due to the thickness of the bezel and that in turn meaning a smaller dial I would want the piece to be 40mm+
Up until now I had only seen renders of this piece. Now with some decent videography it has attracted my attention. Dimensions are perfect. Nice clean no fuss dial, check. Applied indices which remind me of the Glashutte seaq, big check. Crystal distortion, yup check. I'm quite liking this and to me it appears a fair price with the bracelet that has all the bells and whistles. I've always been a sucker for a white dial so it would be the Spindrift for me. I take each watch for what it is and Munro have designed a nice piece here , I suppose being as I own and hammer the bejesus out of an Explorer an 'alternative' never enters the equation. Not that many watches grab my attention these days, I've been at this for too long ha ha. Nice piece for serious considration. Do I really need another bloody watch ??.
What a great watch.. I love the multi coloured dial even if the missus doesnt 😅 Great scenary mate, my Scottish heritage was moved seeing that beautiful scenary. May that watch bring you all the good fortune to the channel you deserve. Darren from downunder.
Were I still in the market for a non-quartz watch then I think this one might be top of the list. Why would I want to spend more when finishing and specs like this are available at a good price. The fact that it is just down the road from me is the final icing on the cake.
That’s a beauty!
A blue version would be nice.
Great review and amazing location for shots! I went for the black dial too and the subtle brushing is perfectly understated!
Cheers Zee. It's a stunning watch that merited the location 🙂
I like their Photic Diver also.
Omg I'm sweating like Patrick Bateman when he sees Paul Allen's business card.
Im going to miss these videos, and enjoy your break! Im still working on my elbow injuries and getting steps in.
Finally managed to get my order. This exact configuration. I'm so stoked!
Well done that man!
That's a great no-nonsense watch! It's well made and well thought out. What a nice piece of crystal. Specwise, there are no real comprises. I can imagine this watch being a keeper within your collection mate! 👍.
Congratulations John, this is a lovely watch. Beautiful design, fantastic specs, excellent quality, and great value. Love it, especially the yellow dial 💛🔥
BTW, Beautiful scenery. My wife and I would love to visit Scotland one day. Hope you're enjoying your holiday buddy 👍
A beautiful, well priced alternative to the explorer. I do really like the amber but the fully lumed face of the white looks awesome. Excellent review!
I tried this watch at the British Watchmakers Day in London and it blew me away. I'm really only hesitating between black and amber. I already have the Addiesdive VH31 explorer homage that I love which just makes this choice harder. I have to make my mind up in the next 24 hours!
Edit: I got black in the end. I'll donate my Addiesdive to a cousin or friend I think.
You already know which colour you prefer...don't second guess yourself and grab it. 😉
The words say (make decision, one color) but the wink face says (just buy both) haha
I wish they had made the cross hairs white. It would have really set it apart from the Explorers and given it some character of its own. Anyway.... a very cool watch indeed. Thanks for this.
The pitch black dial version is a great alternative to the SARG011, for those who can't find one, or want a similar look with sub-38mm sizing.
Love the watch, I've got the amber version. Less keen on the bracelet which arrived later, wears well on a third party Marine Nationale style strap though.
Sweet looking watch, great specs, fantastic finishing, and a Miyota high beat automatic. Can't ask for much more. All things considered, this watch will sell itself. Nice review, now take your holiday, go already.
Love the Clemence Munro. Thank you for the detailed review and beautiful scenery John.
I really like most of it… the case shape, dial design and the bracelet…. Buuut I just can’t somehow like the hour hand :/ great video though! Enjoy the holidays, hombre!
I really really like this one. Great to see it in more detail.
That is a very nice and well made watch, thanks for the review 🙂
Love Zee and this Clemence looks class😊
Wow! I like it a lot. TQ for introducing this watch.
Restock alert signed up, thanks John for another brilliant review
Nice watch but too pricey for a Miyota movement. I was expecting an entry level Swiss movement
Nice lil watch... if I do not have explorer 36 I will buy it for sure. Also I was pampered my explorer for first two months, but now it is on my wrist everyday almost and it have some little scratches almost invisible.. My only problem is 904l steel on buckle because it is relatively soft .. buckle is now almost polished ....😅
Now you have the first few scratches done and dusted you can enjoy it for what its intended. I wear mine gardening or in the workshop or whatever if on the day it's on my wrist. A watch is for wearing not pampering.
Oh man, John! I think that I need to stop watching you because thats a beauty. I'm thinking about it getting it when it's back in stock. My wife isn't going to be happy, so I'm going to blame it on you, ok? Down worry, I live in the states....
Wow. It's a handsome, sporty, rugged watch. Thanks for the review and the lovely scenery!
Really good to see you around John old bean...great review...stellar channel! :)
Nice, cant purchase these from USA ?
Love this watch and all the colours, not sure which I would pick. Also love the outdoor shots in your videos.
I've just ordered a black version in the latest pre-order (almost went amber, but played it safe) partly due to your review. Can't wait. Cheers.
You'll love it. My most worn watch 😉
@@johnswatchjoint I guess we might see it in your next SOTC?
That would be an accurate assumption 😉
If you want an explorer, get an explorer. Compromising on what you want will just cost you more in the end.
If you want a field watch, this is nice and a good value.
An amazing watch for the price. I got a closer look at the British Watch Makers Day in April of this year, and it went straight to the top of my wish list. I was lucky enough to order the amder one on yesterday's restock (19th July 2024), which sold out in 12 minutes. So if want one, DON'T hang around when the restock happens.
Well done 👍
Hi John, I really like the look of this watch, I have a Traska Summiteer 36mm in blue and I’m getting the same vibes with this watch. I might keep an eye on this brand for future releases, as I like their design. Keep up the good work and have a nice break 👍.
nice watch... could it be from the same manufacturing plant as Traska?
You know how to pick them John. Looks great!
Thanks Joseph 🤠
Enjoy your break owd lad, a cracking review of a lovely watch. An what a nice one you picked, nearly forgot, Scots scenery some of the best globally! All the best pal Ian
Whyyyyyy youuuu - You forced me to buy the Octopus already! (Farer Black Velvet ?)
Looks so good, but no date is a deal breaker for me. If it had a date at 6 o’clock, I would seriously consider it. Lovely.👍👍
I like the amber dial it’s really nice reminds me of a Christopher ward
I preordered this version last year after watching the watcher review, outstanding piece for the money and one of my most worn, well done Tom and the team 👌
Great all round watch. 150ATM,great lume & very legible. The oversized crown is a plus for me.
This one’s a winner.
It's the prettier Citizen Promaster Tough which I've yearned for for so long. So close to being the perfect watch but I wanted one with 10 layers of AR coating and 8 layers of BGW9 lume. I guess my hunt continues.
Looks solid. Would I buy it? No just doesn’t do anything at all for me.
Very nice watch and I've been after a yellow/orange coloured watch for a while but I have been leaning toward an RZE. Tempted though.
I cracked and picked up the Munro in Highland Amber. Hope you are ok John and taking some time out to enjoying the warm (cough cough) British weather.
Well done that man. Great choice. The finishing is awesome and it's been a staple on my wrist since I bought it. JWJ hopefully will have a vid up this weekend ;)
@@johnswatchjoint Awesome
Mate about your previous video, sure take a break but haters aren't worth your time. Let them be miserable. Nothing will every make them happy. They'll move on and be miserable about someone/thing else. Stay true to you course and keep moving forward even if it's small steps. "Amore fate" mate!! Crack on!!
Hi John, Hope you doing well and enjoying your break. Missing your reviews. All the best to you. 🤗🤗
I'll be back very shortly my friend in time for the next Big Ali sale
Enjoy your watch
May the road rise to meet you
May the wind be always ways at your back
That looks like one heck of a trout stream! I hope you take advantage of that! Great review, and beautiful watch brother.
It's British assembled not British made ;) Big difference
Can’t go wrong with The Watcher’s recommendation. I really need to get to Scotland. My wife and son have friends there and have been there, and I’m very jealous. It’s a terrific watch and better than the Khaki (IMO) and a smart alternative to the Explorer (not opinion - fact). Wait. Childhood in the 70’s?! Just how old are you?! Ha! I couldn’t resist brother. If these young people will put down their phones and listen, us old guys have a few good things to say. Anyway, forget about us, the channel, watches, and have a great Holiday. We will be right here when you get back. Cheers!
You are a treasure Albert 🙏
That is a seriously beautiful watch👌🏾
Looks like the quick release pins are protruding, isn't that a problem? Other than that, it looks great.
Wearing it just now. They are available to manipulate but do not touch the wrist ☺️
Good, I hope that's true for everyone's wrists! I remember Peter Kotsa having issues with the Edoras Origin (Just One More Watch) in that regard.
Glad to hear that you're still wearing and enjoying the watch; it's a beauty!
@kolbe4373 Not an issue here. Still my favourite watch 👌
I thought you were taking a holiday?
As I said in the holiday video I had pre recorded this as my last vid before going 😊
@@johnswatchjoint yet somehow you’re still responding? 😀go enjoy your holiday. All the best
Great review as always John and it's a stunning watch, I've the same model/colour. Love it.
Nice unpretentious review, thanks & good luck with your new channel. Bit small for my 19cm watch unfortunately.
SCOTLAND!!
A very nice looking little watch
I would rock one of these xx
Nice
It took me a while to find out what it is that turns me off. Based on specs and look it would be right up my alley, but the bezel is too thick. The explorer (classic) has a thinner bezel, as does my favorite explorer alternative; the Halios Universa. Give this watch a thinner bezel and boxed sapphire and I would jump on it in a second.
Count yourself lucky that you’ve ruled out buying this watch (based on your personal preference of bezel thickness). I for one will be deliberating for lengthy periods on how I can justify squeezing in this impressive and desirable watch into my watch collection. Damn you, John! 😅
Looks like a Tudor Ranger more than an Explorer
Absolute beauty. Noooooo go and enjoy your holiday
I can see the quality is good enough. But when the caseback is better looking and more interesting than the front, something is wrong imo.
Nice watch
Great point about spending more on one nicer watch than three or four Ali express junkers. While the cheap watches definitely have their place and are great for getting people into the hobby, a better finished and nicer looking piece certainly helps to keep the interest factor higher and for much longer .
Very nice watches indeed, but their out of stock and wonder when they will be in stock again anyone? 😊
Very very soon! If you sign up they will inform you 😉
Let's face it, the two best field watches of all time are the BM8180 and the F91W. 😊
Forget explorer... forget daytona... skip OP. IMHO nothing to compare or even mention in same sentence. This one, fo example, just missing rolex logo- nothing to compare, no replacement.
Out of stock
