Prince showed out for two reasons: It's Prince, and number two... Rolling Stone magazine had just come out with it's top 100 guitarists and he was not on the list. While we know that Prince did Everything, including recording, writing the songs, playing almost thirty, yes 30 instruments, imagine what he could have done if he only focused on guitar. By the way, Prince also has 8,000 songs that were in his vault that we have never heard yet... let that sink in. The Beatles were great, but Prince was like Mozart.
Prince is a top 5 guitarist ever. Most people are clueless about how great he was. He played 27-28 instruments and was damn near better than anybody on each.
He's not top 5 all time bro. He was great but in no way top 5. He was smart ans smooth here. Used alot of tricks. Kept it gritty. I absolutely love this solo but that's thw truth
Prince added some energy to this performance (Prince and Tom were friends). Prince had his sound that he threaded through all his music like Tom Petty did with his sound. Prince was one of the top 10 guitarists alive during his career. Being 6 foot away from Prince covering Jimi Hendrix, Sly and the family stone, and Santana guitar riffs and solo's exactly the way they did them. He could mimic any guitar player. Normally Prince would switch up the renditions-but he was telling a story along with these songs and performed it they way the originals did.
This was the 2004 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame awards. Both George Harrison and Prince were inducted that year. George Harrison's son Dhani is the kid with the black hair behind Tom Petty. Prince passed April 21st 2016
What u missed was after his solo ended and his time ended he tried to step on his pedal to mute his guitar and walk off but Tom Petty looked at him like "keep going" and that's when he really let loose
Wanda, I feel like I'm always just behind you on youtube (probably because I work long hours). Thank you for your Prince love. I feel like you're part of my family.
This was a sorta middle finger by the rock icons on the stage aimed at rolling stone magazine for snubbing prince from the list of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time. As you can see as soon as he's done he doesn't wait for the applause, he walks right off stage to put an exclamation point on it.
Yes, that's George Harrison's don Dhani (not sure about the spelling). Apparently he told people that his son looked more like him than he did himself. Also, this was 2004; both Harrison and Price were inducted to the R &R Hall of Fame.
Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne (singing also) with George Harrison, and Bob Dylan and Roy Orbison formed The Traveling Wilburys in the 1980’s. Check them out.
He was one of those who minimized Prince because he was mostly R&B and not rock. Ask any guitar player, and they will tell you Prince was ridiculous. Look for the guy from ZZ Top's interview about Prince. He said Prince did things he had never done.
Honoring George, posthumously, at RnR Hall of Fame as solo artist. Steve Winwood on organ, Jeff Lynne (hat), Petty, Dhani Harrison (George's son) and Prince, believe the remaining members are the Traveling Wilburys?? Group with Petty, Lynne, George and Roy Orbison. Props to the axeman making that guitar weep at the beginning!! Of all the Beatles songs, especially written by Paul or John, it's this one that is my fav!! ❤ Treasure this one...3 are gone now!! ❤💜💙 RIP!!
LOL, "without the Beatles there most likely would not have been rock". Rock N Roll was invented by African Americans, please do a reaction to Chuck Berry "Johnny B Goode" and Little Richard "Lucille" for a taste of the 50's.
Jeff Lynne and George were great friends too and a member of the traveling Wilburries. The hat he is wearing was a gift from the Harrison Family. His vocals are gorgeous and passionate along with Tom's. This performance has so many levels of greatness. Off the charts!
@10:50 Actually that is not true. Eric Clapton was there when George came up with Here Comes The Sun. They were walking in George's garden together, playing their Ukelele's and George just started singing "Here comes the sun ... " As for Prince and his guitar abilities, Prince is at least twice as good as he showed here. Prince played on save here, lots of moments he was not playing at all. If you want a glimps of what he was really capable of, check this clip: ua-cam.com/video/E1yDVPY1E-w/v-deo.html
@el34glo59 I agree. We had wayyy too many great musicians. Plus in order to be MJ you must have been on the public stage at 5 at least. Also prince called himself prince, not king for a reason.
@@JaquelineGoodspeed His parents actually named him Prince, on the birth certificate. So, no. MJ is not comparable, MJ is the best/king of Pop. Prince is the best at all else. He is like a Mozart, not like an MJ. JMO.
So this was 2004 and GH was being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame posthumously having passed away. Inducted as a solo artist/singer/songwriter as he’d already been inducted as a member of The Beatles years earlier. Along with Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty, Steve Winwood amongst other works-class musicians is the young guitarist behind and to the left of Tom Petty, that would be DHANI HARRISON, George’s boy who looks the spitting image of the young George Harrison 😊 The highlight of this for me is when Prince is leaning backwards into the crowd, absolutely killing it and we get a shot of Dhani who is so digging Prince’s performance and wearing the biggest smile!! 😊 Awesome!! Greetings from across the pond guys!! 😊🇬🇧🇺🇸
Prince with this act gave THE FINGER to music critics since 1978 dissing him out especially magazines and music status of the *80's... prince thought to be pop.... the music critics were idiots and praised others as kings and shit like this..but always prince kills during his musical acts
Surprised nobody ever notices Sir Paul McCartney on the keys. Prince literally murders this solo & and is absolutely positively one of to best guitarist of all time. Even on his Purple rain album he has countless top their epic guitar solos!!! RIP to the legends 🙏🏾👼🏾🙏🏾
Siiiiii, amigo, desde Argentina, ese es Dhany Harrison, hijo de George; ademas estan Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne (de ELO), Stevie Winwood, Billy Preston y Prince
If i had to choose someone to get an opinion from about the quality or ranking of history's guitar players Eric Clapton would be very near the tippy top of the list. Certainly much higher than anyone who has ever written anything printed in a Rolling Stone magazine. Clapton said Prince was the best he'd ever seen
So Prince just shredded that stage, left that guitar needing a cigarette, threw it up to guitar heaven and all the dad could acknowledge was "Prince died right?" 😒 Interesting!? I mean to sit there and not acknowledge the greatness going on right in your face and ears in a "REACTION VIDEO" is a testament to why Prince wasn't under rated as a guitarist. It's just some other types of people and guitarists refused to acknowledge his greatness for some reason.
Prince definitely pushed up the energy level of the entire performance -- If you saw this "live", you remember that everything leading up to & into this performance (somber video tributes, sad speeches) was very downbeat & depressing....
So I remember y'all checking out Malediction by Shadow of Intent a while ago, and they just dropped a new single that is a must hear. Called "From Ruin... We Rise".
C'm on! Shurly, this is a linup of A-Class guitar players , and Prince may not belong there - it's a point of view, if you are a guitar player or just audience. But: whithout Prince performance, all of the show back in 2004 would be just as forgotten as the nobel prize award for literature in 2016.
Steve Winwood (in the hat )is a great guitar player but here he was just along for the ride not trying to overpower the rest of the group which shows his respect for the whole thing.and Jeff Lynn's (elo) singing along with Tom petty brought it all together perfectly.

Dude, you have no clue of Princes guitar talent. That is insulting. Read up why he did this solo and the others wanted him to do it. Because he is an icon

Prince gives a big f you to rolling stones for not including him as one of the best guitarist. Look at George Harrison son look at him before he plays.
Correct without Little Richard they will not be rock and roll rock and roll Roots come from the Blues there would be no Beatles if there was no Little Richard's
Over the years I've been watching various reactions to this, especially when the producer re-editted the footage last year. Up to this reaction, everyone has commented on what Prince did. I watched this and how Dad was gushing on the others and with it paused right before Prince started to rip it. My thought was "Let's see what they have to say about this!" ...and Prince died, too???!!! The worst and probably indicative of those who underrated him while he was alive. Evidence right in front of you and you refuse to acknowledge it.
What's so sad about your review is how you totally ignore how incredibly good prince is on the guitar not to mention other instruments your dad hasn't got a clue how good Prince was.
You guys have no business critiquing music. Go have another beer!!!
