Around 15:00 to 15:45 It's weird you say that, Running Man was the first and only book that I could not stop reading... Like I read it in as fast as King wrote it. I found it darkly depressing and brooding, but loved it. I don't know why. I just loved it.
Fun fact; The Running Man is actually his first story to mention Derry, so at the time it wouldn't have been a big clue that King was actually writing the book since it hadn't yet been established as one of his go to town names.
The "they were required to have free we, but we're allowed to turn them off" is a touch of King influence by 1984. The same is said of the screens there. Only in 84 they could only turn them down in volume. Great analysis

I seem to remember you did one on Rage. I wonder if Road Work will get any attention. All four stories are remarkable
Personally, I rather take the Richard Bachman/Stephen King novel of "The Running Man" OVER the 1987 movie because the film had almost NOTHING to do with the novel, and therefore, in my honest opinion, a rather UNIMPRESSIVE cinematic take in the end. Recently, I read somewhere on the internet media that there is going to be a kind of new take on "The Running Man" where it will be absolutely FAITHFUL to the Bachman/King novel and I hope as heck that it will be even BETTER than the 1987 film version. After all, I am in complete solidarity with all novelists who really DO NOT want any of their works getting MISTREATED by Hollywood filmmakers for years, like what happened with Tom Clancy's "Patriot Games" as a film that was different from his novel. Not only that, Clancy reacted with disappointment and even DISOWNED the 1992 movie as well. So take note, Hollywood!
I always thought and pictured in my head when reading the book that Charles Bronson would have been superb in The Running Man. Arnie was superb, however.
I think the movie and the book are both great, but I do enjoy the book a bit more. Also, Rage and the Long Walk both beat out the Running Man, but it’s still amazing.
I can think of nobody worse than Arnie to have played the main character. I like Arnie - he's a fun and hard working guy, but he's as close to the exact opposite of the book character as you can get.

Movie pales...PALES to the book. Book is a man running from every police agency in the nation, every citizen.. it's harrowing. But Richards Dawkins killed it. He was beautiful! Want this and Long Walk as they should be.
Man, the book is righteous! It's also entertaining, I couldn't quit reading. King's top 5, and I've read a lot. His alter ego Bachman felt devoid of censorship and he nailed, among other stuff, 9/11! Long live Ben Richards. He started the insurrection. The movie is pathetic

This and Long Walk are my favorite books. Ty for this. The brass balls of Richards and how he basically squats on everything McCone is... The superstar yellow belly Hunter that isn't "really about it" is beautiful. The poker match between the two is gorgeous... I've read this and Long Walk over 40x each. Line by line from every characters pov. This was gorgeously done. I hated the movie. Book is tied as my all time first. Even above Bradbury, Poe and Orwell. Everything about the book... The fear of the public, of every corner, of the constantly enclosing hunters and the politics between the well to dos and not. Is ALL missing in the movie. They show it, but it doesn't hit like in the book. That citizins can get you killed and are looking for you too.
I'm commenting really late because I just finished the book earlier. I have to say I found it incredibly entertaining.. in a very bleak and tense way. But I was on edge the whole time just waiting to see what happened. To me there didn't seem to be a dull moment and the pacing felt perfect. I haven't seen the movie in yeeears but I remember not being a huge fan and am almost hesitant to revisit it after enjoying the book so much. Definitely planning on checking out The Long Walk next
Same here. The book actually had me tense. Especially when he was bluffing at the airport and using their own media against them. One of my favorite books. Literal page turner.
Don't fall for that "Putting up a mirror to nature" nonsense. All artists do is take beliefs you already hold and tell it right back to you. That's why Advertising agencies have a Creative department that writes the copy(Script), Storyboard, Film, hire actors, Directors etc. They use art to sell you something.
Fox would definitely pick up the option for that show, but I'm waiting for the casting call for 100 young men to participate in a new endurance-type show first.P.S. Richard Dawson rocks!

It is not one heck of a movie. The movie is stilted and another wagon for ARNOLD to ride. And all he’s BRICK PUMPING Friends. But shame on home. LOU FERRIO the other Venus beach muscle guy. Who played HUKF IN. That sad series. ( not his fault. His only lines where. HUUUURRRRHHGGGH. AAARRRGGHHUUTRY FART . Nice guy tho. Surprised he wasn’t in THE CONAN FILM z. Maybe because he was Deaf. But surely that’s a good thing listening to ARNOLD SPEAK AMEFICAN. NNOSL

The 1966 Make Room! Make Room! (Soylent Green) Book is also totally different than the 1971 film.

Agreed! There’s SO MUCH missing from the movie, it’s basically not even an adaptation. I would LOVE a more faithful screen version
